KathyH, question about your meals

Kathy,
Does Isopure have sucralose in it? I noticed a lot of protien powders have sucralose in it. I'm not crazy about sucralose or aspartame of any kind.

ok question, why is your dinner the lightest meal of the day? That is when I normally have the time to cook our family a nice meal well rounded meal. Also do you have to eat 5 meals a day? I don't usually have problems waiting until meal time to eat. I don't think I could eat chicken at like 10 in the morning then have lunch later... is it possible to just eat 3 meals and cut down on starchy carbs to lose weight?

I too am at 117 and 5'1", so I am interseted in this very much :)

thanks for the help

Julie,

I'm sure Kathy has much more knowledge about this than I do, but according to Tom Venuto (Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle), you should eat at least every 3 hours to keep your metabolism burning at a steady rate. If you go more than 4 hours without food, especially without protein, your metabolism starts to slow down. Also, your body doesn't store protein like it does carbs, so if you don't keep your body continually fueled with protein, your muscles start to break down. (Now wouldn't that be defeating the purpose of working out!) I've been eating 5-6 meals a day for several months, I just have to work on the little details about the type of carbs and protein I eat. For example, as Kathy says, it's better to eat sweet potatoes than wheat bread. And according to Tom Venuto, tapering your calories so that you eat less at by the end of the day is better because your metabolism is slower by the end of the day. Yes, eating the least for dinner is hard for me, too, because I'm used to sitting down and having a nice meal. I'm going to take Kathy's suggestions and only eat my starchy carbs during my first 2-3 meals of the day. I will be living on oatmeal, sweet potatoes, chicken breast, salmon, and veggies! We're the same size/height, so let's try this together and see how buff we can get!

Hi Julie! It doesn't work for everyone. As long as your getting in enough calories to support your workouts I don't see why not. However, your metabolism will be slower than the person that eats 5 meals a day. That's the reason for eating 5 meals to keep your metabolism reved up & always burning. If you want to you can eat 4 meals a day; whatever works for you. The reason why your to eat your starchy carbs towards the earlier part of the day is simply b/c you'll burn it off that much quicker rather than having it lay in your stomach overnight. I'm sure there's a scientific term for this but I'm not a scientist. Your at a very good weight however for being 5'1". What are your goals if you don't mind me asking? Kathy:D

Kathy,
Thanks for all of the information and support. I'm really concentrating on making my 5-6 small meals actually small and making them balanced as well. Thanks again and I will keep you posted. Also, upping my calories? Not a problem:7

Kathy,
Well this fall I was at 114 but the holidays, busy schedule bla bla added 3lbs, not to mention I haven't ran hardly at all the last few months so that's a biggee. But I would just like to cut off a little more fat, if I could take it off my legs that would be great (hehe if only spot reducing was possible!). So my goal is to trim down just a little more so the muscles I have been working so hard on can show a little more. DH and I are very concerned w/eating healthy so we work together on this, which is very nice. My frame is small/medium so I personally don't think I can get down much more than 5lbs the most and look healthy for my figure. So that's the goal to get around 112ish. Thanks for the insight.
:)

Hi Julie! Besides running do you do any interval training at all? If not, please do IMAX 1 or 2. Cathe's new Kick Max incorporates both of my loves kickboxing w/plyometrics. Do 1x a week of interval training coupled in either hi/lo or step & your running w/your weight training. HTH, Kathy:D

thanks Kathy, I'm waiting to get Kick Max, but I ordered in Jan so it's going to be a while. The only cardio type workout of Cathe's I own in KPC, all the others are weight lifting - and endurance types. I know I need more cardio to help my workouts out, ah if that sun would just come out soon! I think I definately need to get IMAX1 or 2, maybe for Mother's Day!

RE: Global Health & Fitness?

WOW!!! I've read some of Tony Venuto & Victoria Johnson stuff on another site. I can't remember where but I have a lot of respect for them.

Thanks.
