I'd like to eventually work out in a gym, but my son's still too young, and that'll have to wait for now. But if we find another house with an extra room that I can convert into a workout room, that plan to go to a gym will be shelved.

My gym is just great. Easygoing, relaxed atmosphere, and right around the corner from my apartment. It's perfect for my cardio, but I prefer Cathe for strength training because I think free weights are more fun and more effective than machines.

I work out exclusively at home. I had a trainer off and on for years and worked out at the gym, but I grew very tired of that environment. Also, I have this compulsion about cleanliness and I can't stand the thought of using equiptment that is slathered in the sweat of God knows how many people. I don't even want to pick up the free weights--EEEEEEWWWWWW!!!!!
Also, I'm a little bit freaked out by the type of people that hang out in the gym these days. I guess I'm just an old fart!

I work out at home and my gym. The Lifetime Fitness where I live is great. The kids room is spectacular (computers, basketball court, slides and tubes, 60 in. tv). I only use the gym for group fitness classes, though. I take step (my instructor uses some Cathe routines) and a class called Total Body Conditioning which kicks some serious butt. I go about twice a week because of my other time commitments and use Cathe the other four days.

Like you and Laurie, I teach group fitness and do Cathe. I think it's the best of both worlds!

Your comments about women and anorexia really hit home. DH has female relatives who are constantly dieting and comparing themselves. I always eat desserts around them to keep them away.}( They've all had breast implants but deny it, as if it's not obvious. One seems anorexic; she's so thin she's lost her curves (except her breasts) and talks about food nonstop. Personally, I'm curvy and prefer it. I could be thinner, but I like curves and muscles.

Fortunately, no instructors at my gym have weight issues. Some women are too competitive; not only do I avoid them, I don't want their influence around my daughter.

BTW, I meant nothing deragotory about plastic surgery. I'm just complaining about people who have it, then look down on those of us who haven't. (I had my nose redone when I had sinus surgery, and I'm very happy with it.)

Thejster....Just wanted to say I am SO HAPPY that you are keeping your daughter away from that terrible influence. Bad habits regarding body image start young, as you know, so that's such a good thing. And I know exactly what you mean about people who have had plastic surgery and then look down on others...or I hate when someone has had a tummy tuck and then acts like it's because of their diet and hard work!! Hate that!!

i workout at home and the Y. i like to shake up my cardio a bit, and i like the lat pulldown, and leg press machines......and i LOVE the assisted puulup/dip station!

I do all my weight training at the gym & also cardio on their machines on the weekends. I really love the gym--I like the opportunity to meet new people, I like the inspiration I get from others, I like the variety it offers me. My gym is really great--we have a spin studio, a yoga studio, a karate studio, a boxing studio, a pilates studio & a step studio, plus an area just for stretching. Also the equipment is fabulous--there are two separate areas for cardio equipment, two separate areas for free weights, & a huge area in the center for machines. They also offer free daycare, although that's not an issue for me.

I do Cathe's cardio workouts before work during the week. I don't know what I'd do without Cathe--I probably wouldn't get to do any cardio at all betw. Monday & Friday.

I used to be an all at home Cathe person.....but then I moved and just didn't have the space anymore......although I am thinking of setting up my stuff in the garage, now that it is much cooler here in Az!! I now mostly use the gym, and I was suprised that I really enjoy it so much. It has opened up all sorts of new exercise that I would have never tried before...like yoga and pilates....and I thought I would be self conscious(sp??), but that went away after the first couple of classes. The gym I belong has a great friendly atmosphere and is not the least bit intimidating.....I got lucky in that respect. But I so miss my Cathe....

I have a great set-up at home for my workouts. Our basement is big enough that my husband and I each have our own separate workout areas. (We exercise with different types of equipment so it works for us.) Sometimes though I am tempted to join a woman's exercise studio close to my home just to meet other gals with an interest in fitness. I lack that in my life. NONE of my friends or family work out. :-(

At home it's just far more convenient for me. Although sometimes the distractions seem to be a bit much.

For me it's home in the AM and the gym over lunch. I mix it up but mostly do cardio at home and weights at the gym because I have more variety of dumbbells and can quickly switch barbells if one is too heavy or too light.

I workout in my room and I run outside on the pathways around my neighborhood. I would love to go to the gym but being that I am a college student, I don't have lots of money! Ha! That's why I love Cathe's DVDs and her workouts are so fun!

I have a gym membership and a small gym area at home (weight bench, barbell, dumbbells, toning ball, high step, yoga mat, t.v. for my fitness dvds). I like having the option of working out at the gym or at home.
