Just want to vent about my HORRID week

OK, now it could have been worse. No one is seriously ill and I have no newly dead relatives, but this has been a terrible awful week. I hesitated to vent, but this is such a fun place to vent, and looking back, it's kind of funny how terrible it's been in a mostly petty way.

Monday: not bad, did the back and shoulders split from Amy Bento's Slo-Mo Strength Challenge. Good stuff.

Tuesday: Lots of snow before DH came home. I had to shovel twice so that he could get in the driveway. Of course, I was using my back and shoulders when shoveling and they were still sore from the day before. Ouch.

Wednesday: Here's where things started really going downhill. After the snow of Tuesday, we had warm rain on Wednesday--lots of it. So the melting snow and new rain flooded my basement. Luckily it's unfinished basement but we still store some stuff down there. So I spent much of the day moving things around and scooping water out of there. Finally the sump pump caught up and drained most of the water. That was bad enough, but that evening, my 5-year old son got sick. He had a high fever and cold symptoms. Now I'm thankful it didn't also involve puking, which really would have made my week. I put the kids to bed and then proceeded to fall all the way down the stairs--from the top step I slid all the way down along my right side. Major pain ensued. Had to sleep entirely on left side.

Thursday: Woke up still in pain. Then I realized we had no hot water--the pilot light was out, probably due to all the water we'd had in the basement where the hot water heater is located. I went and tried to light it--couldn't figure it out (I'm such a dork). So I was in pain, had my sick kid at home along with my 2-year old who was also snotty but not feverish, and no hot water. It was a long day. DH came home and he couldn't light the pilot light either.

Friday: DS still sick, but we managed to take the little one to nursery school for a couple hours. While he was there, the big one and I went to the grocery store (just for pantry stuff) and the doctor (to check my injuries--still need to get an x-ray). Then we picked up the little one and went back to another grocery store for my prescription and the fresh/frozen groceries. Long morning. Came home to where we still didn't have hot water. Finally I managed to light the pilot light, though, and there was much rejoicing. DH said he would come home and take us out to dinner. Then it took him an hour to get home (instead of the expected 20-30 minutes) and we decided it was too late to go out so I had to make dinner. I'd already dressed up for going out. *sigh*

Saturday: Finally, it's Saturday. Next week has got to be better, right? Now we have hot water, at least (but I'm still sore and now both kids are sick).

Sorry for the long vent. My thanks if you managed to make it through all that. If you didn't here's a recap: sick kids, shoveled snow, flooded basement, no hot water, fell down stairs, no dinner out as hoped. That about covers it.

((((((((((((((( Lanie )))))))))))))

What an awful week. I hope the kids are better soon and you start feeling better soon too.
I'm glad the hot water is back on, that alone is a huge pain !

My Dh has been home the past 3 days with the flu, so it's been no picnic here, but nothing as bad as with you !

Hang in there. It WILL get better !!!!

Let us know about your xrays.

(((HUGS)))to Lainie bug!x( x( :7 :7 Whatta week woman! Makes mine look like a walk in the park if you will....Any fun plans for this weekend, or are you sticking close to the homefront?

Sending you {{{HUGS}}}, Lainie! What a week from h***! Just try to relax and take it easy today -- and enjoy those hot showers on your sore muscles!:)

Holy crap! What a terrible week. On the bright side however, you are into the weekend now.:)

I sure hope you didn't injure yourself too badly and the little one gets feeling better soon.

You know, when I get all stressed my DH looks me straight in the eye and says "honey, Don't sweat the small stuff.....and just remember....it's all small stuff. It manages to put things into perspective for me. It makes me think of all the things I have rather than the crappy things going on around me. Hope it works for you too.

Get some well deserved rest over the weekend girl!;-) (((hugs)))

Awwww, Lainie. That is one sucky week! And I just read your signature at the bottom of your post. What could be more perfect?? I'm laughing, but not at your week, at your signature. :7 :7 :7 How true it is.
ETA: (It always strikes me as so odd when people refer to God as "he" when she is so obviously female.;) )

We are mainly vegging out at home, though I think we're going out for Mexican food tonight. And I'll have a well-deserved margarita while I'm at it. ;)

Thanks, everyone, for your kind responses. I feel much better today and even the soreness is easing up (except for my bruised right heinie). I am generally an optimistic person so it takes more than this to really knock me down, though I experienced plenty of exasperation this week.

I forgot to mention one more thing, though--school was delayed 2 hours on Wed. due to the weather so I had to cancel a physical therapy appointment (for my bad knees). Then on Friday I had to cancel getting a filling at the dentist's because of having Isaac home sick. The kids are home for mid-winter break all next week so I can't make up those appointments yet or get the x-rays yet.

OK, didn't mean to start further venting. I really am a happy person, I swear!

Nancy--ha ha--I didn't even realize how perfect my signature is with that venting post. I added that signature a few weeks ago but forgot about it this week. (Yeah, when people insist God is male, I always want to ask them if he has some kind of godly penis.)

Lainie,

That's terrible! Think positive and thank your lucky stars that things are always changing. Usually for the better. Hang in their kiddo.

You both need to watch a comedy and hug those adorable babes. and be comfortable with lots of pillows and blankets around.

The idea is to die young as late as possible

Hey Lainie:

Sorry you had such a hideous week, but I loved your recap! I think we should give you on slot on here so you can come and deliver a weekly dose of "recap, the week with Lainie!" Could be a riot.

Are you feeling better now?

Clare

OMG I almost started to cry when I read you didn't get to go out to dinner. I am *SO* sorry your week was so horrid!

Sounds like you kept up quite well; I'm proud of you!!

When it rains, it pours!! Geez, that sounds pretty cruddy....

Please take care of your injuries and get the x-rays as recommended. And kiss those sweet little boys for me!

OK for me,
Guinea Pig died 2 weeks ago, still in garage fridge awaiting burial, divorce final on Jan 31 (good but much malevolence from ex), came home from court and asked God for guidance around keeping house or selling, discovered plumbing leak which turned out to be under monolithic slab foundation, plumbing leak involved limited water and no hot water for 2 weeks and 1500 dollars in repairs, note to self: sell house. Student bellydance performance scheduled on last Sat, freakish calf injury upon stepping out of van, unable to perform, classmates suspect I am merely pouting due to no front row slot for me. Developed laryngitis and unable to speak for about 3 days (this is considered a blessing by some). One of my corgies breaks loose from her leather leash (strap broke around buckle) and attacks neighbors Aussie. I attempt to intervene but am still holding other attack corgie who also wishes to also bite said Aussie in the ass. Imagine heroic leap and tackle to remove BAD dogs. Neighbor suprisingly kind.

Hope your kiddos are all better. Growth opportunities...sigh

(((HUGS))) to both Lainie & Jody. Sounds like you guys have had some pretty awful stuff happen this last week! I thought I had it bad just being sick! Hope this week turns around for you both!

Sorry to hear about your horrible week! Although we didn't have a flooded basement... we do have a nice big wet spot on our family room ceiling, the result of either an ice damn or a roof leak. Being a homeowner has its moments, doesn't it?? Look on the bright side... spring is just around the corner!!

Oh honey, I knew my problems last week were petty, but your post proves it. You have had a much rougher time, I think. We both know times like this will pass (whether petty or more serious in nature). {{{HUGS}}} to you, Jody.

The kids seem a little better, though one is still a little snotty and the other still has a low fever off and on.

Thanks, Clare. You're sweet. :) If I ever get around to writing and publishing the humorous memoirs I keep thinking I'll write, I'll let you know. I've had a kind of funny life and I like to write about it.

I am feeling better--even managed a little workout (cardio from 4DS LIS).

Thanks again, everyone, for letting me vent and being kind about it. I feel good about this coming week. My kids will be off school all week, which in a way is more work, but also means we won't have a strict schedule to follow, so maybe we can all take it easy (except for DH, who still has to work).
