Just Starting

:) I have just started incorporating Cathe workouts. I have been using the Firm for a year. I still have to work hard to get the steps down because basically I am a but klutzy, it takes me a while. I have the Intensity series and I have pre-ordered the body blast series. I have cardio kicks, power max and two others whose names escape me now and I am at work so I can't go look. Anyway I want a good collection or variety and I was wondering if there are any "must have" workouts that I will need to have a well rounded program.

Also, how long did it take before you were stepping like Cathe, did any of you stand there for a minute and look confused?

Hi and welcome aboard!

I suggest the CTX Series. It is a wonderful series and contains everything you need in a rotation (workout) of its own.

You could also consider the PS Series and Slow and Heavy Series for muscle building. Oh, and dont forget PowerHour for muscular endurance.

I have all of Cathe's workouts in DVD except the first three. I will get those when she realeases them in DVD format.

Oh, wait! Don't forget Ab Hits and BodyMax!

I just love her workouts and they were a bit confusing at first but once you are with Cathe, no one else compares. She is the most professional fitness instructor I have ever "known!"

Let us know what you decide to do.

Blessings from our home to yours...Runathon

Ok, now another questions - since I can't get them all at one time could you suggest the order of importance? Sorry if this is too much trouble - but thank you so much for responding.

She is a wonderful instructor and a challenge to me, I need one right now!:)

If you are having trouble learning the steps, I would suggest the Classics DVD. I just started stepping this year (former Firmie) and have improved greatly by doing the 3 workouts on the Classics DVD. Second, I think you should definitely get CrossTrain Express (CTX). The cardio portions of these workouts are intense, but relatively short so just when you get too tired to go on it is over. They are great for mixing and matching also.

Oh, as far as how I picked up stepping--about 4 months, one slightly sprained ankle, and the slow motion feature on my DVD player.

Just keep moving while you are confused or do the steps on the floor behind the step when you get lost. Best Wishes!

Rebecca

Daisy,
If you have DVD's you can plan a tough to learn move in ultra slow motion to help you learn it. I started using Cathe in January or February of this year and I haven't used anyone else since! I started out with Body Max, Rythmic Step, Circuit Max, MIS, and Step Heat on VHS. Soon after I bought a 5 disc DVD player. I ordered the entire Intensity sereis, Cardio Kicks/Circuit Max, Cardio Hits, and the CTX series. Enjoy learning your workouts, taking it a little at a time. Oh YES...there were plenty of moments where I just stood there looking at Cathe and her crew with my mouth hanging open! Good luck and have fun!:7
P.S. I too have preorderd the Body Blast series. I didn't do that for the Intensity series so I wasn't going to miss out this time.

Daisy,
I think the suggestion of the classics or any of the older tapes is a good one. I've been doing Cathe strength tapes for about a year but just started her cardio in January. I started out with Step Heat, Power Max, and Step Jam. All older step tapes where she tends to repeat the sequence over and over and gives you a chance to catch on. And yes it took me forever to get the choreo down but once I learned one tape the others were much easier to pick up. I also did the tapes on just the 4" portion of the step. When you're learning it AND trying to do it on 8" it just seems so overwhelming, not to mention I tripped a couple of times and was afraid I would hurt myself. Learn it on the 4" then increase the height, I think that will help.

Then I think the next tape you should get should be Pure Strength series or Power Hour.

Good Luck :D

Thank you all so much for your tips and suggestions! I appreciate it very much. I am going to order the classics now. And I appreciate the tip about learning on the 4" step, I know that will help me a lot!

Hi Daisy! I see you have already gotten great advice on which vids to get. Just wanted to say Welcome to Cathe's place! Take it from me, "Number-One-Klutz" when I first started with her stepping tapes. Trust me, it is well worth the learning curve and time to figure it all out. Nothing will come close to the FUN & variety once you start to "get it". Have FUN and let us know how you are doing. Again, WELCOME! :7

Well, I can't believe I did it but I put the squeeze on and I ordered the CTX Series, Pure Strength and the Classics DVDs - I guess I should be taken care of for a while -- I can't believe I did that, Iusually reward myself with new workouts as I progress - I should have enough new stuff to keep me busy for a while!

Thank you and nice to meet you all -!
