Hi, I have never done a Cathe video but would like to order a couple so I can alternate exercises each week.
What would your suggestion be for the tape to start with.
Also, I don't have a bar so what kind do I order. I also cannot lift very heavy weights currently I am just starting to build some muscle. Thanks, in advance, for your suggestions.

Hi, Thinisin! Welcome to the gang!

I think it would help if you let us know what your exercise history is and what modes of cardio you've done. It would also help to know how many videos you'd like to purchase of Cathe's; remember that you get price breaks for purchasing more video workouts!

If you're an experienced stepper and are interested in a total body workout, "Body Max" would be a good one for you; it has a step segment, a power-step-circuit segment, a total upper-body workout and abdominal segment. You can do this all in one shot, or you can break it up into cardio and strengthening workouts on different days.

You may also want to think about Maximum Intensity Strength AND Maximum Intensity Cardio as companion workouts to put into a weekly program.

As far as a body bar recommendation, I don't know much about those, but I have a Troy Lite barbell system, with a bar, weight clips and rubberized weight plates in varying weights that can go up to 80 lbs. I think Cathe has a link to the website to purchase this on the home page here.

Let us know a little bit more about you, and I'm sure you can get some good input.

Annette, thanks for posting. I currently am doing 3 miles on the treadmill and weights for dummies videos plus I have a couple of Joyce Vedral videos. As I said, I am not very strong
(6 lb weights right now), plus I am not physically fit but would like to be. I have recently lost 32 lbs. and still want to lose 18 lbs. I hope these videos will not be too hard for me.
Any suggestions would greatly help. I will buy as many videos that you think I should to start with and see good results with.
Thank You.

Hi Janet and congrats on the weight loss!! I had a few questions....what kind of equipment does your "home gym" consist of and have you done any aerobics before, either floor aerobics or step aerobics??

Thanks,

Stacy

Hi Janet! I discovered Cathe not too long and started with the Wedding Video. It has both a stepping section and a weight lifting section, that are both great introductions to her style. I did end up getting a little bored with the step section (mostly because it was the only tape I was doing for a few months!) so started checking out the message boards for some other good videos that wouldn't kill me! Everyone seems to recommend Step Heat and Mega Step Blast so I ordered them (along with 4 others - for the discount ya know?!):) and have been very happy with both of them. I think they will be great for helping me transition to her other tapes that are more challenging cardio and choreo wise. I also had Weight Lifting for Dummies and think you would really like the weight section on the wedding video. I hope this helps!

RE: Some more suggestions . . .

In addition to Cathe's "The Wedding Video", if you're totally new to stepping, I'll suggest Kathy Smith's original "Step Workout" - it includes a beginner, intermediate, and advanced stepping section, a brief leg "toning" section on the step; an abdominal workout and a moderate upper body toning section with weights. It also has a little tutorial at the end where you can see some of the basic step moves demostrated for practice.

For strengthening, in addition to the videos already mentioned, you may also want to consider Kathy Smith's two-video series "Secrets of a Great Upper / Lower Body". This series focuses on low-rep overload training, and IMHO it's good for beginners as well as more intermediate strength trainers.

There are a lot of lousy videos on the market, and I'm glad you've landed here - Cathe's videos / DVDs are all top-notch, and the info-sharing will get you what you need!

RE: Some more suggestions . . .

Thank You for all the suggestions. I ordered the Wedding Video.
I currently do 3 miles on the treadmill at a fast pace. I have down step in the past but not recently.
I will let you know how I like the new video....I hope I see results soon and it helps me to lose the rest of the weight I want to lose.
