June Rotation -Weights First?

Hi Cathe,

I just read the Rotation for June on the rotations forum, you rock! I noticed that you put the weight portion of the workout before the cardio. Is this to help get the most from the muscles for the lifting and then challenge them with cardio? I've never done that, and wondered if it was done purposely for that reason or some other that I didn't think of. I'm really interested to see how this changes the feeling of the workout!

Thanks for always pushing us and helping us achieve our goals!

PS - My 7 1/2 month old daughter, Isabella is now standing up and she knows your voice - she gets so excited she bounces up and down and does what I call her OOO OOO dance! I'm getting her started out right!!! Just wanted you to know, there are future Catheites in training!!

THe latest issue of "Muscle and Fitness Hers" recommends doing weights before cardio because you can lift heavier and it "may" put your body into a situation where you will burn more fat.
 
I was wondering the same thing. It's confusing because I have also heard that doing cardio after weights makes it harder for the body to start the recovery process so critical to building muscle. I wonder if Cathe has any opinions about this . . . :)
 
I think it really has to do with your goals. If you want to build muscle, do strength training first. If you want to improve cardio health, then do the cardio first. Since Cathe's rotation is focusing on heavy strength-training, it makes sense to do it first when you have the optimum energy. :)
