January 2014 fat loss

Happy new year!

I just finished D17, legs. I'm a little behind schedule, I'm taking more rest days because my DOMS have been outrageous. I did very little cardio in December but I'm a week into a couch to 5k program as I have another warrior dash in march to get ready for. I also checked out the rotation that Cathe included in the calendar and added the cardio workouts that I have to open days on my calendar.

I had a nice Christmas. I asked for and received my favorite sport socks, they're made by Jockey. unfortunately the company changed how they make the socks so they're not quite as comfortable as they used to be but still better than your average sweat socks.

Diana it looks like you're at least a week ahead of me on STS - you go!!! I'm glad you're enjoying time with the GDs, happy birthday to them :)

Tina my eating was off the rails too, I cleaned it up today but had to have a small piece of pumpkin pie after dinner. How is that body book? have you spent any time with it yet?

Hi Candice! What are you up to?

Happy New Year Ladies! Sue, thanks for starting a new thread. I thought today would be a return to routine, but we have two more days off due to all the snow. I'm not complaining and I will be adding an extra cardio on after STS this morning. Due to DH being home so much over the last week, I totally missed M2D18. We did MM twice together and all of the Cathe spin workouts over the last few days. I'm still on my quest of not repeating any cardio workouts during this STS run through, excluding the spin workouts, as we don't have enough good ones to get us through the 90 days. I dusted off Imax 3 on Monday.

Sue, kudos to you for taking on another 5K! I'm so jealous that you can be training outside. March sounds delicious right now! So far, I'm really enjoying The Body Book. It's very basic and not your typical diet style book. She really encourages clean eating, excluding all white sugar, and adding healthy fats. I'm going to recommend it to DD, as she seems to be skipping meals lately. I need to get to Trader Joe's for some quinoa (which I'm not sure I've ever tasted) and some brown rice pasta.

Diana, how's the knee doing? I hope it's healing and you won't need that doctor's appointment this month. How was the birthday party? Did you end up giving your GD's the bicycles?

Hi to Candice! : )

Hi Ladies,

Happy New Year! I'm not feeling very well this morning. I did have 1 glass of wine last night so I'm not sure what's going on. I feel light headed and nauseous this morning.

The girls have been sick the past 4 or 5 days. Poor little things. I got off a little early on NYE, and DH and I let the girls ride their bikes. We are having a birthday party for them on Saturday and they fly home on Sunday.

I too need to clean up my eating. I'm back to tracking on WW and hope to get to a meeting tonight. I hope to get to my goal weight by the end of March. I need to buckle down and with all the holiday junk food it should be much easier.

Tina-I previewed the Body Book online and it looks pretty good. I also looked at a book by Esther Blum called Eat, Drink and be Gorgeous that looks pretty good too. We all know there isn't any magic, eating whole natural foods is the way to go. The knee is the same, hope to get an appointment scheduled this week. Did you get your DD the fitbit? My band has broken and they are replacing it for me. Apparently this is known issue. It came apart on the inside of the band where the soft plastic attaches to the hard plastic (back side of display).

Sue-How do you like the couch to 5k program? I've never done it, but several of my bootcamp pals have and really enjoyed it. What's Cathe's rotation look like in the calendar? I've purchased a couple of her calendars and never used them. I toyed with getting one but decided not to.

Candice-How was your Christmas and New Years'?

Hi ladies! Today I did a walk/run in 34 degrees. I guess I dislike the cold less than I dislike running on the treadmill :)

Tina that book sounds great except for giving up white sugar :). I'm an addict! are you having fun not repeating cardio? I've never had rice pasta, what's it like?

Diana how are you feeling? I hope you're not getting sick! This is the 3rd C25K I've tried, I do well until the 20 minute runs and not so great after that. hopefully this time will be different. I like the cathe calendar, this is my 2nd year with it. there's a spot to put your weight & measurements each month and it's a wall calendar so there's extra motivation to do better in case someone else looks at it. Here's the fat loss rotation:

week 1
M Tabatacize (as many rounds as you can get through)
T STS TB
W intensity
T kick punch crunch
F Afterburn
S Muscle max
S yoga relax or rest

week 2

Hi to Candice! I hope you had nice holidays :)

Good morning Ladies! Still living in the arctic tundra, dreaming of spring. Seriously, this weather is getting old. I've been signing the Cabin Fever song from the Muppets for days. Thursday I did M2D21 and added in the moves I missed from M2D18 that I missed, one legged dead lifts, horizontal rows, alternating curls, and concentration curls. It resolved my "cheater" worries. I took Friday off and yesterday was KM with 1lb gloves. It was the first time I tried it with the weight, and it totally changed the feel of the workout for me, I really enjoyed it. I tried 1lb ankle weights for the leg conditioning drills, but quickly ripped them off, yikes! I finally completed the Hardcore from Travis Eliot. It's 30 min. of really tough ab work. I think I need to try it a few more times before I judge it. A few moves hurt my back a little.

Spinning this morning with DH. Should be fun, we're getting a little punchy from all the inside workouts. Still listening to The Body Book, it's like listening to a science class given by a cast member of 90210, like totallllly.

Sue, I like the looks of that rotation. I also like the rotation that Cathe posted for January. I'm looking forward to completing STS as we'll be that much closer to spring. Nice job on your outdoor training, I'm so jealous!

Diana, I hope you're feeling better. Bummer about your band breaking. We didn't end up getting a band for DD. Her birthday is right around the corner, so will get her one for her 19th. I hope the birthday party went well. : )

Hi to Candice. : )

Hi ladies, I'm done through D19 on STS, and still doing the c25k for cardio. I'm really enjoying M2, especially now that the holidays are over and I'm getting back into a regular schedule. it seems like after every workout I think "I love that one!", even with legs and I usually don't enjoy leg workouts!

Tina I feel for you being stuck inside for your workouts. I really like getting outside with my tunes. The rotation I posted is from Cathe's wall calendar - I didn't create that. Have you come across anything in the body book that you didn't already know?

Hi Diana & Candice :)

Hi Ladies,

My little visitors have gone home and it's time to get back on track. I took 2 unplanned rest days, but its back to business today. I have 2 discs left for meso 2 and 2 BR w/o's to finish the 30 day challenge. There next 30 day challenge starts on Jan 15th I think.

My training partner came over for my girls bday party and we started putting together a list of races we'd like to do this year. Some runs and triathlons! My knee is feeling better, but still feels unstable. I've been putting off going to the Dr. because it's so expensive with my new insurance. Thankfully I just cover me, but I have $2000.00 deductible before an 80/20 split.

Now that the holidays are behind us I will be getting back to my normal WW meetings and really need the structure. I'm doing a 30 day smoothie challenge also and will be doing the next 21 day cleanse which starts in February. It would be so much easier if my family would eat healthier without complaining. I just make my own food and let them fend for themselves.

Tina-I would probably be going a little stir crazy too. Our temps have been super cold the past week, but today we should get to 50. That should melt most of the snow for sure.

Sue-keep up the good work with your c25k! You need to visualize yourself running for 30 minutes. You can do it!! Thanks for posting the rotation. I copied and saved it. ITA with Tina, the January rotation looks great too.

Candice-what are you up to in the new year?

Off to get my workout on before I end up with another rest day!

Don't you hate it when you type out a post and forget to hit 'submit'? Anyhoo, Monday and Tuesday were STS, Wednesday was LIS LIC with the extra add on bit, and today was my first run through with Cross Fire. I really enjoyed it, more than I thought I would. I did the extreme premix and found it was a little easier than X77. The fire band tabata is my favorite portion. Tomorrow will be the last disc for Meso 2 and than a planned day off for Saturday. The temps should be in the 50's on Sunday, so hopefully a bike ride outdoors.

Diana, I bet you're missing your GD's already. Planning your future races must be a great motivator. You're amazing!

Sue, how's your running program going? I still haven't learned anything new from The Body Book. I'll finish it, but there isn't any secret to her fantastic body, other than she's always been reed thin and has a monster metabolism.

Hi to Candice. : )

Hi Ladies,

Well only 1 disc left to finish up Meso 2! Hope you gals don't mind too much but I'm thinking of doing something else instead of meso 3. The heavy lifting doesn't work well with my weight loss efforts, and getting off the rest of this weight is my current goal. I would like to do either more circuit/cardio work instead of the lifting. The bodyrock circuits and clean eating seemed to yield the best results for me.

I signed up for the next session at the rec ctr that starts on the 20th. It's aptly named Spring Fitness Challenge, but it's basically the same as Holiday Meltdown and our summer bootcamp classes.

I'm back to looking for another job. Not sure if I mentioned how mistreated I am at work, but am so sick of it. They promoted someone above me (5 or so years ago), who didn't have a degree, no IT experience, no portal experience etc. I complained to HR who did nothing but make me jump through hoops for a year and still never received a promotion. The problem is I'm the breadwinner in my family and that makes it quite stressful. This person makes $12k-$15K/yr more than I do yet I am expected to do the same work. I am frustrated beyond words.

Tina-oh yes, definitely a bummer when I forget hit submit. Did you also get Too the Max? I like both CF and TTM, but usually grab TTM more often. I bought some ebooks/guides from the bodyrock site, but the information is stuff I already know. It did include recipes though which I always like.

Hi to Candice & Sue

Hi Ladies,

Where is everyone????

This morning I did 20 minutes of X37 (premix). We all woke up late this morning. Oh well, it was better than nothing.

I'm sticking with circuits for a few more days while deciding if I want to continue on to Meso 3 or not.

What is everyone else up to?

bbl

Good morning Ladies! Starting off cardio week with a nasty head cold. We managed a 29 mile bike ride on Sunday. A little scary with all the sand/salt and snow melt, but it felt so good to be out! I need to crack down on the snacking, as I resembled a sausage a-top a bike. The mid-section has really expanded these last few weeks. Yesterday DH and I did MM together. He is so much fun to workout with. I get a great ab workout with him with all the laughter. Today is RS, which I haven't done in months.

Diana, sorry about your situation at work. I hope you're able to find a better job soon. I have vowed to never work in an office environment again. I'm not sure what I'll do after DS is done homeschooling, but it will be "on my feet" type of work. How is the knee doing? I hear you on the insurance conundrum. We pay over $1200 a month to have it, and we can't afford to use it with the copays and randomly selected things they refuse to cover.
I say, if you're not feeling motivated by Meso 3, don't do it. Go with your gut. : )

Sue, how are you managing rest week? I hope your weather is allowing you outside for your 5k training. :)

I finished The Body Book and it had me shaking my head by the end. Her editor must have giving her a certain number of pages to fill. It reminded me of high school term paper, when you repeat the same simple fact over and over. I do think this book would be great for a teenager that doesn't have any knowledge of nutrition.

Hi to Candice! : )

Hi Ladie.s,

Yesterday I did BR Challenge day 5, and today was Afterburn-Random Burn premix. I've never done this premix before, it just repeated a couple of the circuits. I'm doing a squat/ab challenge this month too so did what was required for today.

During the night I hurt my good shoulder. It is really bothering me today. I'm hoping it will heal itself in short order.

I was down .6 at my WW meeting. Nothing to brag about, but I'm back on track and couting points!

Tina-Nice bike ride. I'm an apprehensive rider, if the roads aren't dry then I'm not riding. Too scary for this girl. I've tipped over several times due to not unclipping before I stop.

Hi to Sue and Candice!

Good morning, I hope you're all doing well! :) Starting Meso 3 today. I really enjoyed cardio week. It was oldies week, LIC, CK, and RS. I really enjoyed LIC, I hadn't done that one for at least a year. Everything Cathe has ever made, really holds up over time!

Diana, how's your shoulder doing? Have you decided what to do about Meso 3? Maybe it would be a good thing for your shoulder to skip it. I'm already thinking ahead to what the next rotation might when STS is over. I'm liking the idea of two weeks of heavy lifting, followed by a week of circuits and then a week of TB and keep that cycle for a few months. Way to go on your continued weight loss. I've been going the other way, cycle season needs to happen soon! :(

Sue, I hope you're ok, I miss your posts! :(

Off to start M3D25. :)

Hi Ladies,

I've been working out everyday, Friday was a rest day. I started Meso 3 on Saturday with Legs, yesterday was Shoulders/Bi's/Tri's. Chest work bothers my shoulder so I'm giving it a few more days before I hit Chest & Back.

I started the Challenge w/o's, they are more like the BR daily w/o's and not like the previous challenge. So far they are only 12 minutes. I still throw in the previous challenge days about once or twice a week.

Tina-I think your next rotation sounds good. For me, following STS with circuits really helps me lean out, and TBH the circuit training is really helping with my weight loss too! Very soon it will be cycling season. Have you been spinning much? Does your trainer allow you to stand?

Hi Candice & Sue!

Hi Ladies,

The spring fitness challenge class started last night. It was a short w/o since we do the 3 min step test, max pushups, max situps, and flexibility testing. I added on the 2014 Challeng Day 6 when I got home. This morning I did the 2013 challenge Day 7. I prefer last years challenge over this years...so far. I think tonight I may do C&B or it will have to wait until Thursday or Friday.

My weight is going up...due to the overindulgences of the past week. Time to reign it back in. I will be doing another 21 day cleanse starting sometime in February. I'm actually looking forward to it.

What are you all up to?

Good morning, I hope you're all staying motivated. I'm loving Meso 3. I've decided to try doing two leg workouts a week during this month. I did plyo legs on Tuesday, and am suffering from the best form of DOMS, the kind that make you slowly get into a chair. :) I've increased my weight a bit from the last STS go-around. This will make my 5th complete STS cycle when we finish. Hands down, the best fitness purchase I've ever made. I'll need to get a new STS guide book, as I've marked up my original up so much. It's awesome to see the tiny improvements that have happened over the last two years.

Diana, your knee must be getting better. I'm in awe of your endurance. Are the challenges you're doing from something that Cathe posted? How's the shoulder feeling? I hope your job search is going well. :)

Sue, oh SUE! Where are you girl? I hope everything is ok. Come back to us when you can. We MISS you! :(

Hi Ladies,

Yay for the weekend! Today I'm doing STS Shoulders/Bi's/Tris, not sure of the disc number, but its m3/w2. Then some kind of short cardio to follow. I do have to say the Chest/Back w/o was so boring and long. I have such a hard time getting my barbell off my rack and putting it back on when switching between Chest and Back. I wish I had an Olympic bar (45lbs), it would make it so much easier if I had 2 bars. I hope to get out for a short run either today or tomorrow and see how my knee feels.

Tina-the challenges are from the Bodrock.tv site. They have 2 sites, bodyrock.tv and thedailyhiit. The workouts from the 30 Day challenge from last year were anywhere from 10sec rest/30-50sec work for 45 min to over an hour. Jump rope in between weight or hiit work. This years challenge is more like their normal daily hiits, only 12 minutes long so I add them on to other w/o's. Glad you are enjoying meso 3, meso 2 is my favorite. My arm definition is really coming along.:)

Hi Sue and Candice-where are you ladies?

bbl

Hi ladies! Sorry I haven't been checking in :(. Everything's okay but I've been a turd lately. I took 1+ weeks off from all workouts (no good reason, just couldn't motivate myself) so I am only done through D23 now... Way behind you ladies. The first workout after such a long time away was the hardest in a loooong time. I'll be back later in the week for personals. Ttfn :)

Good morning Ladies! :) So happy everything is okay with you Sue, way to jump back into the workouts. :) Yesterday, DH and I tried plyo legs together. It was his first try with it and he really enjoyed it. We're going to add one in once a week, just to get away from all the spinning, which is getting old quickly. Sharing the Step is proving to be a challenge, but we'll make it work.

Diana, I've thought about getting a second barbell also. A second pair of weighted gloves would be nice too. I find zipping all four sand packets into the glove to be time consuming. I'll have to check out the challenges you're doing, they sound interesting.

I'm listening to The Willpower Instinct, by Kelly McGonigal. It's a course from Stanford and it's meant to be listened to by one chapter per week. It gives you something to work on for the week and then you proceed to the next chapter. This week is meditation and a log of how many times a day you have to make a choice in whatever willpower challenge you're working on. It will take 10 weeks to finish, so I'll let you know if it proves beneficial.

Hi to Candice, check in when you can. :)

Hi Ladies,

This morning was another BR workout. Tomorrow will be the next plyo legs disc which might be the beginning of week 3 for me. I'm a little out of whack with the disc numbers since I started with Legs and did C&B last each week. I'm keeping within the right week though.

I missed my Monday night bootcamp class. It starts at 7pm and I didn't even get home from work until 7. I'll be sure to be at Thursday's class though and plan on adding a couple of the 12 min challenges to it when I get home.

I haven't been weighing daily this past week and it may come back to bite me at the scale tomorrow. It really helps me stay on track, keeps me motivated to eat healthy and exercise each day. I don't let the number determine what kind of day I'm having or anything like that.

My training partner and I have signed up for a 5K on superbowl sunday! Hopefully it's not too cold out. It will be my first run of the year!

Tina-Do you have a high step that one of you could use? It seemed like a "nice to have" when I purchased it, but I use it a lot! The Willpower Instinct sounds awesome. I may look into that. It's definitely worth having 2 pr's of gloves. I have a 1# and a 2# pr and they work great. Sometimes I'll wear the 2's and then hold the 1's also. I used them for chest flyes and rows with my 35's so I really using 38's. It's time to invest in some 40's, but it just not a priority right now.

Sue-Sometimes you just need to take a break. "Breaks over" as Cathe says!:D It sounds like you are back on track. Keep up the good work!!

Candice-where are you young lady??? I guess your new job is keeping you too busy to check in with us. Hope all is well with you.
