Jacknife crunchs

Anyone else have problems doing these? ( back problem) They are in the Core section of MM.. I have been trying to work up to them, by only doing one leg ( the one nearest the floor), am I wasting my time? can anyone think of another way to ease into them?

Me too! I just tried this workout yesterday and I could only do a couple of those abs, while Cathe and crew make it look so easy.

The other exercise I find impossible is the one in the core workout where you sit with legs crossed and try to hold your pose with air under the bottom like a genie on a magic carpet minus the carpet. Well, I need the magic carpet for sure, because my arms would need to be tree trunks to hold up my behind. okay, maybe I am exagerating a little---maybe.

I hope there are suggestions out there!

Kelli400,

The levitation holds are hard. I can only get my bum off the floor but not my legs. Although, I can do them in the bath tub :D
I know a strange place to try them, but the bouyancey (?spl) of the water is so helpful.:+

I finally got the hang of jacknife crunches, mind you I've only had the dvd for about 8 mos;-) I find that in order for me to do them, there is a certain angle that my "butt" has to be on. I was having problems doing them when I did not bring my legs in closer to my torso to form a "C". Once I did, I was able to do them most of the time. Hope this helps. And oh yes, I haven't figured out levitation holds either:),

levitation holds

Try them with yoga blocks, if you have them, or find 2 evenly sized thick books. The little extra height helps. My favorite yoga teacher tells us that the move is effective even if you're feet are still on the floor. Of course she does them with her legs extended in front of her (& yes, only her hands are on the floor).

RE: levitation holds

Amazing! I just tried it, That's hard! Now I have something to work toward. The levitation holds thing I find so interesting. I would not say my abs are THAT strong, but I have never had a problem doing levitation holds. I wonder why it is so many people struggle with these. I find the jackknife excercise to be very hard. Maybe it's a form thing, and I need to play with them a little.

RE: levitation holds

Try "locking" your feet into each other when you put them "indian style" to do the hold. that way, you are using your core, but pulling up on your bottom less to lift the legs.
