I've Never Cried Over a Workout, But...

Thanks, Julie. I'll definitely keep at it. If all else fails, I'll take others' suggestions to try some of the older workouts, too. I LOVE step workouts... I guess I'm just not used to advanced choreography. I'll get it, though. I was very discouraged last night when I first tried it, but I'm going to go at it again with a more patient frame of mind, and I'm sure that will help me.

That, along with all the other tips I've already gotten (like holding the remote while doing it!). These tips from everyone have been excellent, and I'm very appreciative! I'll be sure to come back and let everyone know when I've mastered the workout, since so many are cheering me on! LOL :p

Thanks, again!

The suggestion to try some of Cathe's older step workouts is an excellent one because the older ones do not have the advanced choreography that the newer ones do. That's why I had so much trouble with Rhythmic Step when I received it years ago. That was the first step workout of Cathe's that had so much more advanced choreography (in my opinion), so it was difficult for me because I was more used to the basic moves. But eventually I mastered it, but it was so much more helpful that I knew all of her older workouts so well. Starting out with Cathe's newer ones without being familiar with Cathe's style, etc. would be a lot harder. So definitely check out the older ones. She has a DVD which has three of her older step workouts -- I can't remember offhand which ones are on that DVD, but really good ones are Step Heat, Step Fit and Step Works. Those are only a few -- Step Blast is also really good, but I would learn the older ones first before attempting Step Blast.

Good luck -- keep at it, you will be happy you did!!

(((Hugs)))) You WILL get it! I always look at routines as being just as good for my mind because I really have to think, too ;) What helps me is really listening to the instruction rather trying to mostly use my visual sense. I am a visual learner, but with routines, really listening to the instructor helps. She will cue you. Good luck. Don't give up!!

Thanks, ladies!

I did Athletic Step tonight, and did MUCH better with the moves. :D YAAY!!!

You know, when I ordered this series, I thought the "Advanced" designation referred to fitness level. It never occurred to me that the step choreography could be considered advanced, too. Well, now I know!

I'll continue with Athletic Step until I've got it completely mastered, and move on to some of the others.

And I'll be sure to keep all of your wonderful suggestions in mind!

Thanks, again!!!

I barely missed any of the moves the first time through both step workouts. I don't know why it was so easy for me. I think that getting the names of the moves memorized is very important. I knew what I was supposed to do for most moves by what she said not watching it. I would just keep trying because as soon as you get the names memorized I think that it will be easy for you. I count out 8 counts when I am learning a new workout too. It helps for the trickier moves to memorize what count this or that foot should be hitting the step. You will get it and then it will be so much fun and all of her other workouts will be easier for you to catch on too!

LL, I noticed that, too! That when I know the name of the move, it's easier to keep up. So when I was doing Athletic Step last night, after I learned what "Starburst" was, I did the move without really thinking about it. Whenever she gave a name to the move, I was able to keep up quite easily.

But when it was simply an 8-count step sequence, I had more difficulty. But I know that those will come with time. Also, I could give those sequences a name on my own, right?!?! :D

Thanks so much, all of you. I feel a lot better about my ability to get the choreography of these workouts.

Wonderful help, all of you! Thank you very much.

This is my first experience with Cathe's dvds. I just got my Shock Cardio dvd set yesterday, and I've been previewing the dvds ever since they arrived.

I just attempted Step Moves, and have never felt so frustrated and impotent in my life. I have some experience with step, so I thought I would be able to pick up on these moves easily, even after previewing the dvd several times. But I was unable to keep up. I was so frustrated, I just stopped the dvd and hopped on the treadmill and did a quick mile in an attempt to get my heart rate up. Then, I put Step Moves back on, and couldn't make it through the first combo without just standing there watching and trying to understand what she was doing.

Has anyone else ever experienced this with a step video, and how on earth did you get past it?! :(

I am so frustrated and in tears, and this is just not like me. Please help!!!

Why don't you break down each step segment until you pretty much nail it. It really is not that hard, but Cathe does not break down the choreography to keep it at a fast pace.

I had trouble with Step Blast and one day it all clicked. I broke down each segment and when I nailed it, I moved on to the next segment.

I hope you don't give up on this workout. It is really fun.

Nope, Amy... I didn't give up on it. I've done Athletic Step and some of the MMA workouts since that one.

I often have workouts playing on the tv when I'm doing laundry, and the Step Moves has already been added to the rotation. Previewing has always helped me a lot. In fact, I previewed Step Moves before I attempted it... but I guess previewing it and DOING it are two very different things.

Thanks, Amy. I'll keep at it!

Hey I had to share this with you girls on this thread. I picked up Step Moves the second time I did it. I am not having any trouble with any of the Step DVDs!
