I've lost 40 lbs this year!

Hi all,

I'm not quite at my goal yet, but almost and thought I would just post my almost success story.

I gained and lost 65 lbs with our first three babies, but with our 4th child, I had a prenatal diagnosis of down syndrome plus a heart defect. I was so scared that the baby would be still born that I totally quit exercising and ate constantly. I gained 80 lbs and was moving around like an old woman by the time I gave birth.

That first year with our little one was very difficult due to a variety of medical issues--God's magnificent grace got me through--but weight loss was slow, because I could not find the time to go to the gym or run. I just figured that I might as well give it up--I was now a fat and out of shape mom, but then I discovered Cathe.

I was terribly out of shape and due to being so heavy, an old knee injury was aggrevated, so I had to modify a lot. About a month into my new exercise regime, we discovered that we were expecting blessing number 5.

I continued to work out through the entire pregnancy, actually making strength and cardio gains. I also gained less weight then in any other pregnancy.

At 2 week post partum, I had the courage to weigh myself and a year later, I weigh 40 lbs less. I have lost 5 inches off my bust, 1.5 inches off of each arm, 9.5 inches off my waist, 7.5 inches off my hips and 2 inches off of each thigh. I have gone from a size 16-18, to a size 4-6, depending on the brand.

My knee has also improved. On Saturday, I did IMAX Xtreme with almost no modifications. I can do hi/lo and lunges, two things I thought that I would never again be able to do because of my knee.
I will never be a super cut person, because I don't have the discipline to eat that way, but I have upper body definition that I have never had before and my husband tells me he feels new muscles in my butt all the time;-). He never pressured me when I was heavy to lose the weight, but I know he prefers me like this.

Anyway, I know that this is a long post, but I knew that you would all understand and appreciate my quest for fitness. I have found a lot of support on these forums. Thank you.

take care, all

Thanks everyone!

I knew ya'll would understand. I have lots of friends in "real life":p :p, but no one shares my passion for exercise. So I am glad for this forum.

PS Danna--Having a "special" child was not a part of my plans, but I am so glad that God gave him to us anyway--he's sweeter than pie and more fun than a barrel of monkeys. It surely has been an adventure.

Congratulations Maggie!!! Thanks for sharing your inspirational story with us. Keep up the good work and setting great examples for your kids as well.
