It's not me...it's you guys....

Dear Ben and Jerry,

It's with a heavy heart that I write to you both, my dear, old friends.

Ours has been a long and satisfying relationship. You have been there for me when no one else was.

You've seen me through love gained, and lost, and gained, and lost, and ga... well, you get the picture.

You've seen me through birth, death, agonizing loneliness, tragedy, crisis after crisis, and the occasional triumph.

You've seen me through divorce (Chunky Monkey) and through the tender, hopeful glimmer of new love (Oatmeal Cookie Dough - you know a man's a keeper when he brings the pint and two spoons in to eat while cuddling on the couch!)

And that's just my real life. Never mind how many novels and magazine articles you've kept me company while reading.

But, lately, I have to say I feel like we're moving in different directions...

The new flavors, I don't know, they just don't hold the same thrill anymore. Cinnamon Bun, Peach Cobbler, Whirled Peace, and ugh, Brownie Cheesecake... they're just... bad!

Maybe it's time for us to go our separate ways.

I wish you all the best and I'll be sure to say hello when I am stopping by the Haagen Dasz section for more Caramel Cone and Dulce de Lece.

There will always be a special place in my heart for you gentlemen. I'll never forget you.......

:+

Suzanne,

ITA. It sounds like you need some space. Some "me" time. It's good that you're exploring new avenues and adventures. Just remember, if it's meant to be with you, Ben and Jerry, I'm sure it'll all work out in the end.

I'm not an ice cream girl myself (lactose intolerant), but I serve the Dark Lord (dark chocolate, that is).:p

In the meantime, keep writing those hilarious posts!

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.

Thanks Johahnah, it's so hard to keep perspective when the very foundations of your world are being rocked.

;)

I too am a humble servant of the Dark Lord.....

This reminds me a little bit of a prayer request we had a few months back over someone's coffee maker.

It's good that we can all be here for each other. *Sniff*

I love you guys!

:*

*sniff...sniff* I blame it on B&J's sale to Unilever...*sniff*

Suzanne,

I love your post and I feel your pain! I've held a grudge against B&J ever since they discontinued my all-time favorite, to-die-for flavor...Wavy Gravy and then ignored my desperate email requestes to bring it back! They definitely have strayed from some of their original creative decadence!

Since you're also in the Boston Area, I can share a new favorite with you... Brigham's Ice Cream PINTS!!! Yes, they come in pints now, with new scrumptious flavors reminiscent of the good ol' days with B&J. My current favorite is Say Hello To My Sweet Little Friend (a yummy coconut almond fudge flavor). I love the names, which are concocted from movie titles (Scarface for this flavor). Have you tried any of these yet? If not, I recommend them! You can't go wrong with Brigham's! :9 :9 :9

Ben & Jerry's is easy to give up, they were sold to Unilever, the same company that makes cleaning products.

They still make the Ice Cream an hour north of me in Waterbury VT.

Ah, I sympathize. I had to break it off with Blue Bell (particularly Natural Vanilla Bean), but in that case I just moved away. It's hard to escape the reach of old Ben and Jerry.

And I'm sure if we ever return to the South I will return to Blue Bell like a desperate addict.

Ooooh, Andrea, coconut, almond, AND fudge all in one place?

That sounds like something I need to check out. I've been eyeing those Brigham pints but wasn't sure if they'd measure up.

Plus Haagen Dazs has been keeping me busy with some pretty yummy flavors.

Way back in the way back for my first wedding anniversary with the now DX we went up to heavenly Vermont and took the tour of the Ben & Jerry's factory. Unfortunately for me they were making vanilla that day. :-(

I wanted CHUNKS! And chocolate! Well, nothing constant but change I guess.

Even the Godiva ice cream has gone down hill.

Thanks for the Brighams review!

Ah, I can resist Ben & Jerry by just taking one look at the calorie count, but now I've lost my heart to a Skinny Cow . . . . :)

Yeah, what's up with that!?! I didn't realize they'd sold out - literally. Sigh. Nothing good can last.

I, too, have taken my business to Haagen Dazs, but . . . (drum roll) they've been out of Dulce de Leche the last three times I've been in Wal-Mart. Don't tell me they've sold out too! Oh, the agony. I may have to give up ice cream all together.

Shari

P.S. I once wrote (a humorous letter) to Ben & Jerry's -- the REAL Ben & Jerry's -- complaining that they were the reason I was having weight problems and demanding that they do something about it. Would you believe they sent me a stuffed cow, wearing a B&J's t-shirt, and apologized! Their letter was even funnier than mine (and mine was darned funny).
