It is really hard to get back into shape

Hi, all,

I started working out again about a month ago, and I was in such dismal shape that all I could do was LowMax on a four inch step for ten minutes. I added more cardio each day, eventually moved up to a six inch step, and I was proud of myself. Then, I came down with pneumonia, and I could not work out for ten days.

Today, I got through the entire Step, Jump and Pump workout, and I know it isn't one of Cathe's hardest, but it certainly challenged me. Besides Cathe, I love Christi Taylor, and Ilaria's kickboxing workouts. I also like Amy Bento, but did she ever change from the format that wore out quickly? Any response would be much appreciated. Of course, I like Cathe the best.

Congratulations for getting back in shape! As someone who's been on and off the exercise wagon many times, I know that you're right, it's hard to get back in shape. It sounds like you know what to do, I just wanted to say hi and you're not alone, hang in there and keep plugging away! I'm not in the best shape of my life right now, but I'm also working back to fighting form. I did LIC today on a 6" step with lighter weights than used by Cathe and crew. I know that soon I'll be able to do it on an 8" step with heavier weights, and that will feel so good!

Hard, but certainly very doable. I don't know if you've ever read Lance Armstrong's memoir "It's Not About The Bike", which goes from his humble beginnings through his early years as a successful professional cyclist, then through his near-death bout with testicular cancer, then his regaining his athletic capacity and winning the Tour De France (for the first of 7 times). Knuckle-dragger that he is, this is a great book to read for anyone who has fallen off the horse and wants to get back on.

I'm not sure what you're referring to regarding Amy Bento and her formats, but from what I've seen of her products she has a good array of hi/lo, step, boot camp and strength DVDs. Cathe's productions remain my favorites, but Amy is worth checking out.

Keep up the good work. I think you'll be surprised at how quickly you regain your fitness capacities if you stay consistent with your program.

Thank you for the support, Bobbi, and I am still on a six inch step except for Low Max, which seems easier to me that LIC. I have DOMS in my upper body from Step, Jump and Punch, and I hadn't worked my chest in ages. Thanks again.

I used to do everything on an eight inch step, and I also ran three times a week, plus I took three cycling classes a week. Everything has changed now, and a gym membership is not in my budget now.

Hi Annette,

Amy Bento's workouts, when she first started producing them were in the DVD format that had a purple bottom. I can't remember what it was called, and I bought her first hi lo workout, and I loved it. Eventually, it stopped working. Except for my bout with peumonia, I have been very consistant with my workouts, and I did Ilaria's Powerstrike 5 today. I might try LIC tomorrow. I have to admit that the combinations in Powerstrike 5 are a bit difficult, but I am sure I will do better the more I do the routine. I love Powerstrike Millenium 3, and does anybody know if Patricia's workout is worth buying?

The format you are referring to is DVD-R. The Amy Bento DVDs I have are not DVD-R but DVD (with the silver back). I didn't realize she had DVD-R's out there. I am not that big of a fan of Amy's hi/lo workouts only because I can't get it! From what I understand from others, once you get it they are a lot of fun but I just can't take that much time to learn a workout. I need to get in, get done, and get out!
