I was thinking about trying this routine this week and wanted to know your opinion.
Monday: High step challenge
Tuesday: GS Legs abs
wednesday: cardio only (Imax 2)
thursday: PP upper body only premix
friday: low impact circuit
saturday: cardio only (run or hardcore extreme)
I will choose lighter weights on my circuit days and heavier on the upper and lower body days. i'm trying to incorporate both strength and circuit workouts b/c i love them both so much. do you think this is too much? thanks

My understanding is to not work the same muscle groups two days in a row.

If you do HST and then GS Legs, you'd be working legs two days in a row (doesn't HST have leg exercises as part of the circuit?). If you then do PP Upper Body and then LIC on consecutive days, the upper body is getting worked two days in a row.

Your cardio days are very intense, too! Not a judgement, just an observation.

Is it overkill? I don't think so, but that is just M-very-HO.

HTH! :)

thanks for the reply. I realize that i am working my legs in HSC but to me it is more endurance and not an intense leg workout. So i figured doing legs the next day would be ok. As far as upper body and LIC, i will keep the weights light for LIC and then hit it hard for upper body. i guess i will know if its too much if by weeks end i'm totally crapped out:p

Overkill is subjective... Depends alot on your current fitness levels and ultimate goals... For instance- if you are looking to build some serious muscle then 7 days a week of intense 60+ minute cardio would be overkill as you'll eat up alot of your muscle by going over the top on cardio...
If you are looking for cardio conditioning then go for the crazy cardio-
I think its hard for people to address questions without the objective of your rotation being stated.... imo;-)

i'm happy with my muscle tone so i guess i want to lean out a bit (loose about 5 lbs.) my diet is really good but i've seem to have hit a platue and i thought this may cut me up a bit and knock me off the plateau.

Hello,

Doesn't PP have two upper body premixes? One that you repeat the exercises 3x and one you repeat 2x? Which one are you doing?

I think the workout looks OK. GS Legs have only one exercise that uses heavy barbell while the rest uses lighter dumbbells. LIC also uses light dumbbells. You might want to change the HardCore Extreme for something that is more steady state cardio for longer. Just a suggestion.

When I do any type of circuit workout that includes legs, I have no problem doing consecutive heavy leg workout the day before or after. To me, there isn't not enough training involved in circuits workouts to consider these comprehensive. I consider these types of workouts a touch-up on muscle parts. For my arms, I may not be able to give my best performance, but I'd just keep the weights extremely light or use nothing if I was following it up the next day with a circuit.

My legs are very defined. I have found for me that I can work this part more often. When I do a very heavy workout at the gym, I usually skip legs the next day, unless I take a class that has a quick leg circuit.

When you can't complete what you use normally use, then I'd say you need to add in recovery time. Your body will let you know when it's too much.

I'm curious to how long you workout per day? I do a morning and afternoon workout and they are both usually about 45-70 mins. (total about (1.45-2.00 a day) I've been doing weights three days a week (MTF- full body - drill max or Jari Love's get ripped series) but it's mixed with cardo. Then on my cardio days it usually has some leg work due to the blasts (hardcore extreme). After doing some research this weekend I realized I shouldn't do the same body part two days in a row which kind of throws off my routine since most of my workout dvds do the whole body with the cardio mixed.

After seeing your routine it makes me feel I'm way over doing it. How long have you been exercising for. I've only been hardcore (weights and cardo) for about 6 months. Before that it was just cardio and I wasn't consistent. I've lost about 20 lbs going from 140 to 120 through dieting and exercising. Now I've hit a plateau and I actually put on 5 lbs (I know it's because my diet has changed for the worse) You seem like you've been at this for a while and are in pretty good shape. What is your opinion? Any other opinions are welcome too!

>Monday: High step challenge
>Tuesday: GS Legs abs
>wednesday: cardio only (Imax 2)

This sequence could be too much stress for the knees/hips/lower body, but YMMV. Just watch for any signs of overuse here, like twinges and pains.

i've been working out for years. i only workout for 1 hr a day. mabe an hour and 15 min at the most;-) i focus on intensity so after an hour i don't have much more to give. mabe its time for you to change your workout routine. are you doing any type of interval cardio? if not give it a try a couple times a week. also lift heavy and challenge those muscles. you may do well doing an upper/lower split using the pyramid dvds.

thanks for the advice... I love to do interval training. A lot of my routines have it. I think I need to cut down to maybe an 1 hr or 1 1/2 and like you said do more weights.
Thanks
