Is this normal with weight loss in the abs.

Over the last 6 weeks I've really tried to start watching my diet and increasing my workouts. I would like to lose around 10-15 pounds. So far, I've already lost 4-1/2-pounds. My problem is that I've noticed my abs seem more jiggly when I'm exercising. They definitely look better and I'm getting smaller all over, but I've never noticed this before. It this a normal transition that I'm going through?

All of my body, but especially my abs, seem to get jiggly before I drop inches. I have no idea why, but I like to think that it's because all of the fat is loosening up and getting ready to depart (wishful thinking, I know - but it keeps me going!)

Kelley,

I see this when I start to lose inches around the middle. I get jiggly when I exercise. I'm guessing it's loose skin? I know it goes away when I put the pounds back on again.

Not sure if this helps or not... If it's loose skin, you may want to try dry brushing to help tone/firm up the skin.

I noticed it with me too. I think it is that the muscle is getting stronger and tighter and we have a fat and skin layer that just sits on top.
I see it kinda hanging over when i do push ups.
But i can see more definition under there.

So, we have to work it harder and watch what we eat and lose the fat.
My goal is by summer to have a six pack back.
Be 41 and look awesome in a swimsuit.

Guess we are in the same boat.
Good luck,
Anne

I have the exact same problem.

I think skin can be pretty elastic, so hopefully in time the skin will tighten up.
I had a baby a year ago, so I'm not sure if mine will ever get back completely, but it has improved a lot over the last 6 months.

Give it some time - good luck

Dry brushing? Can you tell me what you mean? I feel silly having to ask, but I'm curious...

The Benefits Of Dry Skin Brushing

Taken from http://www.jashbotanicals.com/articles/skin_brushing.html

The Benefits Of Dry Skin Brushing

• Dry skin brushing helps to shed dead skin cells, which can help improve skin texture and cell renewal.

• Dry skin brushing increases circulation to skin, encouraging your body’s discharge of metabolic wastes, which greatly aids the lymphatic drainage of the entire body. When the body rids itself of toxins, it is able to run more efficiently in all areas.

• Dry skin brushing also helps to tighten the skin because it increases the flow of blood. Increasing the circulation to the skin can also help lessen the appearance of cellulite.

• Dry skin brushing stimulates the lymph canals to drain toxic mucoid matter into the colon, thereby purifying the entire system. This enables the lymph to perform its house-cleaning duties by keeping the blood and other vital tissues detoxified. After several days of dry brushing, you may notice the gelatinous mucoid material in your stools.

• Dry skin brushing helps with muscle tone and more even distribution of fat deposits.

• Dry skin brushing also rejuvenates the nervous system by stimulating nerve endings in the skin.

• Dry skin brushing helps your skin to absorb nutrients by eliminating clogged pores. Healthy, breathing skin contributes to overall body health.

• Individuals who sit at a computer screen all day long will particularly take pleasure in the benefits of skin brushing. People who have inactive lifestyles or jobs usually experience stiff and sore necks and shoulders that reach even into their arms and down their spines and into their lower backs. Increased blood flow begins entering the areas brushed and you will experience an increase in electromagnetic energy that permits you to feel energized and invigorated.

• LADIES—Cellulite is toxic. Cellulite is toxic materials that are accumulated in your body’s fat cells as they are unable to be eliminated. So, rather than liposuction surgery, how about utilizing the “dry skin brushing” techniques coupled with an alkaline diet program and a great exercising routine. It will break down the unwelcome toxic body deposits and send them scurrying out of your body through the elimination channels we discussed above.

I've lost 57 lbs and throughout my weight loss I would notice that something was suddenly jiggly like my calves and butt when I walked or my arms, but that goes away as the skin tightens up again.

Thanks for all the replies. I agree with everyone that I think everything is tightening up in there which is causing this. I don't have a lot of weight to lose, so hopefully it will not get too bad before the skin starts tightening back up.

I hear ya Anne. I just turned 43 last weekend and I'm pretty sure I'll be attending a 25 year high school reunion next summer. I want to look my best which is why I've really started watching my diet better and raising the intensity of my workouts. I don't want to wait until the last minute because I know it is best to lose slowly to avoid gaining it back.
