is muscle endurance only strength or circuit training?

you move quickly from exercise to exercise with little rest and there are three cardio like legg press cycles interspersed, seems like more than straight strength training to me

according to the websites which calculate these things, i would burn only 211(!!!) calories doing ME if its considered "moderate weight training"

this seems IMPOSSIBLE, as circuit trainign it comes out to 325--this seems more realistic(?)

any input appreciated

I don't classify it as a circuit workout. It's a weight training workout with emphasis on muscle endurance, not strength. Of course, if you are new to the workout then it will assist with strength too.

thanks for the replies

hm, maybe its the moderate part thats making the calorie burn calculate so low, tho according the the website "heavy vigorous" weightlifting at my stats would burn over 500 for ME which seems really high

man i need a polar a5 stat! :)

For me, ME would be a moderate weight training. For me, it works my muscle endurance (which gives me more of a cardio effect) than strength training, especially for my lower body. Whereas, some parts for my upper body would also build strength depending on what muscle group I'm working on.

Why don't you just average the two numbers (325 + 211) and take that...268 cals. If I remember correctly, for me, that is roughly about what burn. I'm short and normally not more than 115lbs.

Hi Dana
May I ask what websites calculate burned calories?

Thank you

hey,

caloriesperhour.com is a good one

theres a few tho if you google around

they probably arent that accurate from what i hear

:)

I believe that you burn less calories doing weight workouts because your HR is not as elavated during the session. If you are doing a circuit workout then your HR would be more elavated therfore more calories would be burned. But if you are looking to gain some strength you shouldn't worry about caloric expenditure during your workout anyway. I never worry about calories burned during a weight workout because it distracts me from my goal. However, you do burn more calories longer after a weight workout than with a pure cardio workout. So that does even things up a bit.
