Is anyone else having trouble

Whew, thank you all for your replies, that's what I love about this forum! Much as I don't feel like it, I'm dragging my lazy a$$ to the gym tonight & working through it. I know I'll feel much better after I do.

LauraMax :)

YES! I always have trouble, though, after a vacation. Whenever I get out of my routine -- it takes about a week to get back into it. I ate a LOT and a LOT of things I don't normally eat (that bread at Italian Affair, pizza, cake, cookies, breakfast foods). I felt like crap by Sunday (you'd think I would learn a lesson at some point)!

I wasn't exhausted from the workouts (of course I didn't take the one on Friday morning OR Sunday morning OR the kickboxing class...wow, what a slacker!) -- I was more mentally exhausted. It was a LONG day on Saturday and I'm not typically a very social person. So it sorta exhausts me when I have to be social for such a long time.

I always start back slowly (did Cardio and Weights today, 30 min on the treadmill, about 30 min lifting at the gym ... and 30 min talking) and in about a week -- I'm back to my normal routine! Hey ... I'm glad to know other people have the same problem!

I know just what you mean--I don't feel like it's a physical thing either, it's more mental. I feel like I've completely burned myself out during the last 3 months or so. But I already did my off week over Memorial Day & I refuse to do another!

Besides, thanks to Jes, I missed my leg & shoulder workout last week. x( I need to get caught up.

I did not have to much trouble getting back into the swing of it. I missed my running. So, I have gotten in a few good runs.. I did PP last night. I need to do more weights.

Laura, It was great meeting you on the road trip. Thanks for the ride on Friday morning to Cathe's step class.
You look fabulous. Keep up the great work!

I did MM Monday, IM#3 Tuesday and HSC today.

I have to take a rest day on Friday to have some unpleasant medical tests done, so I didn't want to use up a rest day early in the week.

I have been going to bed earlier than usual since returning home. I swear I was living on an adrenalin rush all weekend long!

Look at it this way - ya'll did 4 workouts in 2 days, had sleepless nights and most had horrible flights experiences coming home. And you're wondering why you don't feel like working out?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did 2 workouts in 2 days, got sleep, and I still felt like sh*t until today! But, after all, I had an excuse to do only 2 workouts since I WAS the acknowledged oldest one there!

Just Do It! :)

Hey Maximus,
You know that I peak out 3 times a year for climbing. In all my trainign reading, ultra athletes say that you can't stay peaked out through the whole year. The do recommend that after anything like the road trip that you have trained for and completed, you should take some time off, cut back, and peak again later in the year.

Hope this helps, my Atkins friend,
Melissa

Sabrina,

Some people find that flying can be really tiring. I usually get a cold after I fly--this time is no exception. :( Like LauraMax (I like the name! ;))said, it might have something to do the stress we were under getting ready for the trip and the stress our bodies were under during the weekend (and lack of sleep). Not to mention the EXTREME stress of trying to get home!

While the first 2 types of stress were the fun kind, it still put a strain on our bodies, so like you I'm POOOOOPED! Don't feel bad taking it easy.

I wish I could be a whirling dynamo like Shelley! What do you eat girl?!? :)

I've been really tired, too. Didn't workout Monday. Yesterday I did the upper body split from Muscle Endurance and took a long walk with Doodlebug (Maeve, my black lab).

I thought that would take care of it, but I'm still tired today. I'm battling with myself on whether I should rest or work out.

I might do a Pilates workout tonight and see how I feel in the morning.

I just really want to get back to the level I was working out before the trip. :)

Don't be too hard on yourselves, you did a lot in 2 days, and a lot of you have been training for this. If you were football players you'd all be in recovery week right now, where if you did workout it would be light and easy = no Cathe workout.

Give your bodies a break if you don't, you'll be at a higher risk of getting a summer cold. Then you'll be off another week, because you'll be sick. Also remember most of you flew into a different time zone, even for a couple days this screws you up, especally when 7 am, for you was 4 am. So your body is confused right now, and it needs rest and not you bouncing around.

Also when you wake up in the morning take your pulse and see what your morning resting heart rate is at and keep track of it for a few days, if it goes down a little. Your body really needed those days off, as that is a huge indicator of over training or too much at once. But also once it goes down, that's the okay sign to start again, if you over did it.

I'm glad to hear that everyone is listening to their bodies, remember to take it easy and listen to it. It will tell you when it's recovered, do some stretching and some light work, that will at least comfort your mind your doing something and it won't cost your body much if it's trying to recover.

I guess I'm the lucky one I have a summer cold. I felt a sore throat since Monday & now I'm feeling a cough come on. I don't remember ever being sick in the summer. I guess the roadtrip did me in or I'm just showing my age. Off to get some chicken soup, I really wanted to do boot camp today.

Hey Debbie :) Just wanted to say it was nice meeting you and chatting with you, and hope your cold is gone soon...that really stinks!! Take care! :)

I hope you feel better Debbie, do grab that chicken soup, and curl up and sleep. It's about the best thing for a cold, at least you manage to get threw the road trip and have fun, before it came down on you.

Since I was on vacation before the roadtrip, my routine's been different for about 3 weeks. I eased back into working out this week by alternating circuit (HSC, BC) days with yoga and Pilates. I might continue this next week and include one of the Terminator workouts I bought on the roadtrip.
