Ipod shuffle?

Thinking about getting this, anyone have it?? I see it's only around $50, the only thing I want it for is listening to music while I walk/jog. It doesn't have to be the latest/greatest model, nothing fancy.

Opinions?

Hey Jerry!

My 9 year old DD has one. It's perfect for what you're looking for-it holds about 250 songs and is pretty small so it's good for working out. She uses it for dance-downloads her performance songs then bops around the house practising. HTH!

I bought one on the apple web site

And got it engraved with "Rapid Breath" cause I do rapid breath of fire with my yoga.

I love my shuffle. Its pretty. I use the wrap around ear buds that don't fly off when I run. The only thing is don't leave it on its cradle and plugged into the computer because the computer recognizes it as an external drive and trys to boot off of it and then can't boot because its just a shuffle, no real brains to speak of. So don't leave it plugged in and don't forget to "eject" it before removing it from the dock.

Hi Jerry,

I have the Apple Ipod Shuffle 2Gig. My daughter has taken possession of it now, but it's fine for listening to music. It was perfect for me. Holds plenty of music, and I even have photos stored on it. $50. is a great price. You should definitely get it :D

Jerry, the shuffle is good for what you want. I have one that I use for swimming and running. Mine is a 2G. Remember that there is no screen to be able to see what is playing or what music you have on it. When it is connected to your compu, however, you can see what is on it and in what order. You have the option to play your music shuffeled or in order. If you want a screen, you'll need to get one of the various ipods out there, not the shuffle.

I love my shuffle. It's small enough to be totally unobtrusive yet holds far more than I need. I like to download NPR podcasts to listen to while I run. I also organize my music so I know relatively where in the lineup a given song or podcast is - faster music to one end, slower music to the other and my podcasts at the front.

I have a 2gb shuffle and before that a 1gb. I love them...can hold more than enough songs and I even have some itreads on it. I also put cardio coach too when I need it. What I love most is the size...It would bug me to have it wrapped on my arm...so it just clips to my jogbra. Love it!!!!

I have the purple ipod shuffle and love it! Previously I had an old Sony walkman with a bicep strap. It was pretty lightweight at it's prime, but got to be annoying when I picked up running this summer. So I broke down and bought the ipod and have been loving it ever since.

My favorite part about it is that I don't even notice I'm wearing it. It is perfect for working out -- running, walking, biking, etc. I do wish I had an ipod with a screen, but only for inhome use, not for working out. For that I will stick with my shuffle.

GET ONE TODAY ... you will not regret it. :D :) :p

Jerry,

The ipod shuffle has no screen. If you have a variety of content (I categorize my content as ebooks, music for easy listening, music for working out, .....), the disadvantage is that you cannot navigate. Especially if you use audio workouts like itrain and cardio coach or even if you decide to try free mp3s like the couch to 5k while running, when you put in multiple types of audio on the shuffle, you will have to find what you want by using forward which can be a tad frustrating. Apart from that it is a high quality, ultra reliable, easy to use, sleek player. I used one for many months (1st gen Shuffle) before I decided I needed a screen.

Here are comparable models that are compact and also have a screen:

a. Sansa Clip at $30 from amazon for the 2 gb model and $5 more for 4GB is a way better deal in my opinion. It has a clip for easy wearing, and a screen. Not as small as the Shuffle. I love gifting electronics (so many cool gadgets but I can only use one of a kind myself!) and have gifted Sandisk in the past. Sandisk is a reliable, rugged brand for mp3 players but their players dont look as sleek as the ipod.

b. The Fuze series from Sandisk gives you features comparable to the ipod nano (video + audio) at the price-point of the Shuffle. It has a micro sd card slot for expandable memory which is useful if you dont like planning ahead, because you can put stuff on sd cards and carry them around along with the player. You will need an armband or to slip the player into your pocket while running.

c. Also check out the Creative Zen Stone - Creative's answer to the shuffle. There are many models - with speakers, with clip, with neither, with both. Amazon has good prices and sometimes the Creative site has amazing bargains in the refurbished section.

If you decide on the Shuffle, check the price at Apple's site under the refurbished section, besides other shops.

All competing models to the Shuffle in this list have something the shuffle does not have which is built-in FM which is nice when you want to hear something other than your own collection.

jerry, something else to keep in mind, music that you download from itunes may not be compatible with another mp3 player that is not apple. My DH has a Sanso, which is great, but cannot sync music that is bought from itunes. And vice versa, if you download music from another source (rhapsody, for example) you may not be able to sync it to an ipod. Itrain works on anything and probably cardio coach, too. Another way that apple keeps the customers using itunes...just the nature of the animal. Most people use itunes anyway, but it´s just one of those things that bug me:(

Most stuff at itunes is available in a DRM free version (look under itunes plus at the itunes store) as well now. The DRM free version is AAC format, but can be converted to MP3 format within itunes, if your other player wont play AAC.

Thanks for all the opinions, I am so getting one..I am really enjoying incorporating running into my workouts, and am already looking forward to next summer jogging on the Cape May boardwalk with my tunes!

I recommend the Sansa Clip -- $35 for 4 gb. Amazon has them, so's Best Buy. It has a screen to navigate the songs. It's hard to navigate 500 songs!
