Insturctors that can't queue properly

Cathlete
So I just got the Kickboxing Everyday Fitness video and I know that this could be great IF the instructor could just queue better! It was so frustrating...she says "punch left" but because everything is backwards it looks like the right to me and the whole video left me just confused. I like the video and the moves are great but I have to return it because it makes me nuts when she says "left" but it looks like the "right"...I feel completely aggravated and can't get into the dvd.

So more praise for Cathe! Her queuing is awesome! Another reason why I should just stick with Cathe DVD's.

Yes Cathe is the best!

I don't have this problem though because I can't tell my left from my right very easily so I just follow what the instructor is doing. It takes me too long to figure out which one is my left or my right if I pay attention to what is being said. Ah, so here is one time when it is actually not a problem that my left and right aren't easily distinguishable (and no, looking at my hands to see which one looks like an L doesn't work for me - they both look like L)

Yup, Cathe cues well. We have been spoiled! When I first read the thread title, I had images of fitness instructors waiting in line at the supermarket check out......!

If an instructor does not cue like Cathe, then I will either follow the cues by doing the opposite of what they are doing on screen or I will ignore the cueing and just mirror what's happening on the video. It all depends on the type of work out it is, if it's choreographed, etc. Usually I can make it work...

I follow what I see too. And that's why if they go over strp and do turns I get lost.... like I got totally cool stdp 1 and 2 and I got lost and frustrated because she went over and tuen turn turn what? Lol I wait for my rest day and been trying to do the move master in it only oncee so far and still can't get it. But I can get stap blast low max and stepp moves. Humm don't know what yo do for that ..lol I guess cathe queues are. Better!

I absolutely can't stand when an instructor can't cue properly. Yes, learning to mirror cue takes some practice, but is a completely learnable skill. It also really bugs me when they don't cue the movement before it begins, instead they cue a couple of beats after they have begun a new movement. With all of the excellent instructors that can mirror cue as well as cue before the movement begins I wonder how these people got the backing to make a video.

I truly have never understood why a video/dvd would be allowed to be put on shelves with such horrible cueing. Don't the producers of them have any desire to put out a quality product? Many years ago when this industry was just taking off, bad cueing was more the norm. But in this day and age, it shoud never happen! This is one of the many mysteries that will continue to baffle me.

Bam

A couple of years ago when Biggest Loser was looking for a replacement for Jillian they were asking for personal trainers that "looked the part". They were not looking for personal trainers that were necessarily good at what they do, they only wanted trainers that fit with the aesthetic that they wanted. That pretty much said it all.

Yeah, poor cuing can be a pain--literally and figuratively. If I like the work out though, I'll keep going with it and eventually learn the routine well enough that it doesn't matter. Never have that problem with Cathe though. :)

And to be blunt - Anna Kournikova sucked!

I have enough problems following good verbal instructions along with getting my arms and legs working together correctly, I don't need to be confounded by bad cueing.

or blatent mistakes. Isn't anybody paying attention while they are filming? Editing? Don't they watch the workouts or have someone actually do them to check for mistakes before they are sent to the replicators?I don't mean the occasional mis-step or mis-spoken word but leaving out a body part or 'other side'. Just shoddy!

ok rant over! ;)

YES! Exactly! Bad queuing is bad enough but when they miss whole sections where you end up working the right and left unevenly drives me crazy! I have this problem with Bob and Jillian especially. Bob's Kettlebell Cardio could be such a great workout but he misses whole sets on one side so that I have to pause the dvd and do the exercises on the opposite side as he just moves on . Lordy!

I admit that Christi Taylor

I think that the choreography in Christi Taylor's DVD's are a bit more difficult that Cathe's, but I still like Christi for the variety. I can do Totally Cool Step and Step Heaven, but I have trouble when she makes the step vertical, and I know that, if I keep at it, I can learn it.

I tried Christie Taylor many years ago and I couldn't pick up on her moves at all! IDK if her choreo was too complex, if it was her cueing or a combo of both but I quickly sold those dvds. To date, I've really never "jived" with any other instructor's stepping style but Cathe's. I enjoy all other work outs by other instructors. Just not step for some reason!
