insomnia interfer with work oout

I have always had trouble sleeping for a very long time. I started taking Melatonin about 5 years ago and it puts me to sleep like a baby. I have always had a hard time turning my mind off at bedtime and I used to have some anxiety attacks before bed, and Melatonin has completely changed my whole experience with going to bed. I used to be so tired working out every morning but always felt better after and still worked out. anyway, but now my workouts are much more fun and I have so much more energy.

I had insomnia for over a year and I was still able to get in good workouts. However, back then I wasn’t tracking my weights, so I can’t specifically say how much it could have been affecting me.
I highly don’t recommend dealing with insomnia like I did. Go to your doctor, there are sleep medications that do wonders.

Susan,

Have you had any side effects? I was thinking of trying this too, but was concerned. How often do you take it? every night? do you drink any caffinated beverages? do you feel groggy in the morning from it? Sorry for all the questions, but with Menopause, I have not had a full night's sleep in a couple of years now and this may be what I need to try.

I have chronic insomnia and only average 4 hours a night. I take VAlerian root and Melatonin with no help. I'm a very hyper person. I still workout every morning and rarely have trouble working out, but I know it's not good for my body, as far as repairing itself, etc.

Fox2star,
I have had no side effects and I do not feel groggy in the morning. It really just relaxes you and you gradually fall asleep within about a half hour. It doesn't just knock you out. My doctor is the one that recommended it. Try it out.

I have been taking Melatonin for about six weeks now and it works like a charm and I don't feel groggy when I wake up.

I'll reply too Foxstar..since I'm Susan (too);) , I had insomnia pretty bad and was given Ambien. I worked so well. Nothing from the drug store like Nytol or TylenolPM was like it. I would fall asleep, stay asleep and wake up energized. No kidding.

I may try it, but will try to either really reduce or eliminate the caffine first, since I think doing both would be counter productive!

Do any of you that use the melatonin drink any caffinated beverages during the day? I also looked up using melatonin on the internet and they say that most dosages are too high, and if you take too much, it stops working. What dose do you take? Sorry for all the questions!

3mg is what my doctor told me to take. You shouldn't take any more than that from what I understand. Melatonin is over the counter. Ambien requires a prescription and some people have experienced undesirable side affects like memory loss.

I only have caffeine in the am.

It took about a week for the Melatonin to kick in for me. The doctor told me this may be the case. It would be interesting to see how long it took for Susan.

I have a bladder disease called interstitial cystitis. Meaning on good days, I have to void my bladder about 30 times per day and night. I am up pretty much every hour at night so I don't get heavy restful sleep. I feel worn out probably 13 out of 14 days. On the days that I don't feel so great (most of the time) I just grin and bear it. My cardio won't include all the jumping that Cathe does and I have to lower my step height. I just have to realize that my backside does not care how much sleep I am getting. It is something one just has to learn to live with. Good luck.

i will try it again as i had it before it did not work but maybe i need to use it off and on thank you very much for you advice i wanted advice too
