IMAX and nostalgia

Hi, Cathe!
I just did the original IMAX (aka: Interval Max!) yesterday, after not using it for quite a while. I remember working out to it a lot when it came out, and when one of the songs came on (the one where you say it makes you feel like you're on a tropical island), I remembered it was about this time that you and DH actually did go to some tropical island... and son number 1 came along about 9 months later!

I revisited the original Imax on Saturday. I hadn't done it in quite some time. I was very bummed to find that after interval 5, it completely stopped working but until then, I had a blast! I substituted blasts 4-8 from Imax 3 for the 6-10 intervals from Imax 1 (as my DVD wouldn't work) and it was GREAT! My legs actually had DOMS the next day and I didn't even do any other leg work!

I miss the 'one move' type intervals where Cathe just does one move (plyo jacks, airborn jumps, etc) over and over. But I'm guessing that's what Drill Max will be comprised of. Woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!

Beans, I think your I-MAX DVD has an overuse injury.

Did my own version of IMax the Original this Sunday (as I do every third Sunday): eliminate the recovery segments, extend the interval blasts 8-16 reps, add on IMax 2's step-based blasts, and polish the whole thing off with the Boot Camp cardio-only premix.

I-Max the Original was the first Cathe video I ever did. Wore the first videocassette out, bought another copy, then wised up and bought the DVD. It remains the one singular workout by which I judge the intensity value of all others.

Thanks, Cathe.

Imax was the first video of Cathe's that I had without really knowing anything about her or her work and after trying it once I put it away for about a year not daring to get it out again! Now I can do it all the way through and so I bought Imax-2 for a change. I can see it's maybe a more "fun" workout but I was a bit disappointed with the intervals - I feel I get a lot more anaerobic in the "one move" type intervals, even a little change of steps gives you a chance to catch breath. However I haven't properly got the steps yet so maybe the intensity will up when I really know what I'm doing.

I think the majority of us think Imax2 is a bit easier than IMax. But you can certainly put more oomph in the intervals when you know the steps better. It's certainly a worthwhile workout. As I recall, most of us when polled also thought IMax3 was the toughest one of all. I know I do!

I am the odd one out here. I just purchased Imax, but pre-oredered both Imax2 and Imax3 back in the day. On my virgin run of Imax I didn't think it was as hard as Imax3, mainly because Imax3 has shorter recovery phases. And I love power 7's and power 15's!

The warm up of Imax is thorough. I can see now why AJ uses it in some of her mosh moshes

I love the original IMAX because the step intervals are fun without being overly complex, and you really get the oomph with the blasts. I find I can get a lot more power in my moves to this workout. What I'd love to see in DrillMax is an IMAX1-like approach with shorter recovery phases (like IMAX3). Just my .02!

Which Imax II blasts do you add to this? I do the extra 8-16 reps, as you do (and by your suggestion!) but after the 10th interval is over, I'm fried! I can't imagine adding onto it.

You ARE the QUEEN BEE!!!!

I really like this Imax. I was scheduled to do Imax 2 today on my rotation, but did Imax 1 instead. I may be the only one but Imax 2 just doesn't do it for me. I like the blast segments in Imax 1- straight forward and fun! Imax 3 is my favorite and then Imax then low max and then Imax 2.

I love all three Imaxs. I'd have to say that Imax 1 is my favorite, followed by 3, and then by 2 - but I LOVE the music and the mood in Imax 2.

Also, it is pretty easy to make Imax 2 tougher: (do jacks on the floor when Cathe does basics on the step (in intervals 3 and 7), add another set of 7 long hop turns and plyo/air jacks to interval 5 while Cathe and crew go into a heart rate check, and (I stole this from Annette), hold a light med ball during intervals 2 and 4 to make them more intense.

Thanks for the tips. When I get more competent at the choreography (never my strongest point) I will try some of the modifications. Also will up the step to 8in which should help. It sounds like Imax-3 is a tough one then, perhaps I should have got that instead - I will put it on the list!

I think I will enjoy Imax-2 once I get the hang of it and some days you feel like working harder than others so it's nice to have some variety...

Beans - after The Doom Interval (#10) on I-Max 1, I add on intervals 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 10 from I-max 2. For some reason it's #5 on IM2 that really gets me - long hopturns then plyo jack right into two airborne jacks.

Buzz, buzz as it were. We should have an Intensifier Idea Swap at our next Meating.

Oh please...no more shortening of recovery periods please! I pride myself as advanced doing all IMaxes on 8 inch platform but when I first did IMax 3, I literally cursed and swore at the shortened recovery periods. I was like, where's the recovery when I have to ACCELERATE again??? But I hope Cathe will film IMax 4 in due course..hope her recent injury will not mean an end to the IMax instalments:-(
