I'm sorry, I have to ask...

I find it interesting that Palin is speaking out against McCain's wish to leave Michigan. I wonder if her days of being 'handled" are over, and we might see a less canned(and yes I do see this), and more of what she truly is.

Honestly, in a time of crisis the election historically goes to the party not in power, so I fully expect Obama to win. May he be strong, because truly, I don't think that we are off to a good start with this bail-out plan.

Bail out

Has she? I'm surprised by that. I've never understood why a party would do something like that. Kerry abandoned Missouri (or was it Iowa) in 2004, and I thought that was a very bad idea. Then again, I wish the Republicans would abandon Ohio, but they can't now.

truly, I don't think that we are off to a good start with this bail-out plan.

I hate the bail out plan. This administration treat us like children who can't possible understand what the adults are saying and just pat us on the head and tell us to go play in the other room. They try to distract us with Paris Hilton Porno like we're crows who will be distracted by the sparkly fake news they dangle in front of us.

I don't care if you like Paris Hilton or loath her, she is not news.

And Anna Nicole Smith, was anyone else irate that the news treated her death almost as if it was another 9/11. Interrupting regularly scheduled programming, the only news reported for 5 days. Like my world stops because some rich stripper OD's. Mother Theresa didn't get that must news coverage.

Oh my, a co-worker and I were just talking about how the media gets on a topic, like Anna Nicole Smith and every station, that is all you hear, 24/7. It is like this with everything, these talking points, makes me just turn it off and do a Cathe tape!

I have to get some sleep, painting sets tomorrow all day.

Agree on every point! I was sooo happy when the bailout failed but now we are stuck with a warmed-over nightmare that is supposed to save us despite the fact that it was constructed by the same ding-dongs that got us into this mess in the first place! Scary.

And lol at your Anna Nicole comments. Americans are the most distracted people on earth!! You know I read a social theory once that during the early part of the 20th century the government encouraged baseball fandom not because it really gave two hoots about a national past-time but because it was a way to distract the immigrants and poor people from how sucky their lives really were. I think Hollywood plays that role now.

I wouldn't be surprised if that bit about baseball was true.

It's the "Bread and Circuses" method of government. Roman rulers as early as 126 BC provided free grain and gladiator games to distract the populous.

It can be hard to put aside self interest in service to the public good.

I'm concerned that the American people seem to be unable (unwilling?) to separate candidates' personalities from their qualifications or the candidates' personal lives from their professional lives. And not just in this election.

For instance, say what you will about Al Gore... the man has the personality of a cardboard box, but he could run circles around George W. Bush on every issue, domestic or foreign, in 2000. I don't think there's any way that anyone could really make a credible argument that Bush was more qualified in ANY area, but people fell for his charm and personality and proceeded to vote that way.

I agree.
Alas, I think a lot of people are swayed by form over substance.

And in the VP debate, the little bit I've seen so far (during commercials on another show--I taped the debate), Palin wins on presentation, Biden on substance. She did an excellent job of talking into the camera, which makes her seem more approachable. (She makes up some for what I see as McCain's lack of charisma during the presidential debate).

If Sarah Palin had choked up like Biden did last night....they would have crucified her for it, a woman crying...look what happened when Hillary did that, she got crucified. So there is a double standard, but not where you think.

I think Biden had a vert good reason for choking up: he was talking about the tragic death of his wife and child! If Palin or any woman (or man) had choked up while talking about the same thing, I don't think anyone would have "crucified" her.

(I do agree that Hillary was badly treated for showing real emotion.)

I think Palin has been treated like crap..not that I love her, cause I don't...anyone who does not support a woman's right to choose is a hard sell for me.

Biden is a blowhard bag o'wind...but a lovable one for sure.

Obama? I think if he gets into office his wife Michelle and Oprah Winfrey will rule the world.

If McCain gets in, lord knows what will happen with this loose cannon.

Too bad both of the candidates couldn't share the presidency...then we might get a "fair and balanced" chance of turning our country around.

Its all very confusing and crazy isn't it?

How she is "handled" by the McCain campaign doesn't say much about Sarah Palin but it tells me everything about McCain. They are using her as a "prop". For crying out loud, they didn't even tell her that they are pulling out of Michigan. I strongly believe that the one and only reason why she was chosen was to galvanize the pro-life base and to appeal to disgruntled Hillary supporters.

Agree on that...I'm betting that McCain is probably regretting picking her at this point. That Troopergate thing isn't going to go away and certain legislators attempting to suppress the findings by going to the Alaskan supreme court doesn't exactly make Palin look innocent. If Palin had nothing to hide, they wouldn't need to appeal, right?

BTW, did anyone notice that Palin released her tax records on Friday afternoon when no one was watching? It's an old political trick to "dump" news items on Friday afternoon because supposedly no one reads the paper on Friday/Saturday.

ITA with everything you said, especially about Obama, Michelle and Oprah.
And I could add on to that statement but tactfully I will keep my lips zipped as to not start a war around here.
