I'm so hungry!

It won't go away! I've eaten 1544 calories today, and I just ate 2, yes 2!! Fiber One muffins! Now I'm hungry AND guilty. Will it ever end! ahhhhh

That doesn't strike me as very many calories. Maybe you're hungry because you're not eating enough? Just a thought. My BMR is always between 1500-1600 calories, so for me 1500 calories a day would only be enough food to keep blood pumping in my veins, not enough to actually walk around or exercise. What's your BMR, exercise level and goals? I would be very worried that you are damaging your metabolism in the long-term by being in constant starvation mode. I would suggest reading Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle by Tom Venuto.

Well, I exercise 6 days a week, for an hour or more. Yesterday I did S&H Legs/Shoulders and the Drill Max cardio premix. My goal is to lose body fat, I want to have more definition. I don't know my body fat percentage but I weigh 105 and im 5'2. I don't want to ruin my metabolism, but I feel like if I eat more calories, that's when I start to notice gains instead of losses. I am reading BFFM but I'm not very far into it yet. I'm really confused on how to figure out those ratios too.

For breakfast today I'm having the protein waffle (Tom's recipe) with honey, coffee, and a banana.

I have been logging my food intake on My Fitness Pal, and it says to maintain my weight, I need to be eating about 1650 calories. So I'm confused as to whether I'm trying to mainain my weight, or am I trying to lose some to get more definition?

Ohhh I have too many questions. haha :)

The formulas are just guidelines. No one knows exactly what your body needs or how it will respond. If a formula or calculator could give us all our perfect number, few of us would be struggling, right? Most of us on this forum would be cut.

Being hungry a bit won't kill you. :) I've played with my numbers for the past year, and I can tell you that the best indicator of how much you should be eating is your body. If you gain, you're too high. If you lose a half pound to a pound a week, you're in a safe deficit. If you don't move the scale at all, you've found your number for maintenance.

As you get stronger, you may be able to up the calories over time, but you'll only discover that by experimenting.

Carbs tend to make me hungry. Maybe you could try a protein snack like a piece of string cheese with a small apple and few nuts.

You could also experiment with eating more by adding lean proteins, fruits and vegetables, and good fats like nuts and avocado. Maybe increase your calorie level 100 calories (while minimizing sugar and alcohol) and see how things go for a couple of weeks.

Good luck in working this out.

Hungry

Just because your stomach is growling, does not mean you are hungry. It could mean you are thirsty too. Remember you are to drink at least half your weight in water. Not coffee or other watery drinks. Plain water. And if you are working out (which you should be), you have to drink two more cups to replenish the body of the water you are loosing.

Just a thought.:)

when I get late night munchies I drink nice flavored teas... it really does help! there are caffeine free teas in case you can't have caffeine at night.

ETA; at your height 1500-1600 sounds like it would be enough. Not sure how active you are besides the workouts. When you start losing the last few pounds you don't want to have a huge calorie gap.

Oh water has been my best friend right now! I always drink a glass to see if what I'm feeling is thirst or hunger!

Thanks for all the replies! I'll let you know how today goes.

I'm also 5'2 and i exercise 7 days a week. I feel hungry at least every two hours, but find that protein shakes and bars help to feed my muscles and calm the hunger (at least for a little while! ) Just remember, If you're at a good weight and your goal is to burn fat rather than lose weight, you will start to gain a bit as the fat shrinks and the muscle grows. Muscle weighs more than fat! :) Feed your body, just keep it full of healthy choices!

Eat a lot of vegetables and you won't be.

Dig this: I'm the frozen vegetable queen these days. For my morning vegetables I ate up the odds-and-ends in my freezer, microwaving in three small cups the last of my turnip greens, peas, and broccoli/cauliflower; all while my egg/egg whites cooked.

Eat lots of veggies and you'll get all your antioxidants and never be hungry. I haven't been hungry since I started eating double servings of veggies every 3 hours. Not always fun (especially when you'd really rather be eating something bad) but not being hungry keeps me from blowing all my hard work and it's good for me.

Try it and you'll be glad you did.

Wow. Morningstar is right. You need to fuel your workouts or, at the very least, you're just spinning your wheels. At worst, you could be doing yourself some damage. I haven't read Venuto's book but I know enough about him to know he knows his stuff so it's definitely on my list. Sounds like you really need the information right now so it would probably be a smart move for you to make studying what he's written a priority. Nutrient timing is especially important for us all to get.

Hi Stacey and Ayle09! Thanks for the responses! I'm def. happy with my weight, I guess I just want to tone up. And I really need to get more veggies in the house. I still live with my parents, and my mom is a pretty healthy-ish eater...except at night. She really gets out of control haha...but she buys food that will satisfy my dad and says veggies are too expensive so she just buys the basics...its tough, I have to get my own stuff which she hates.

Have you guys ever had anyone trying to work against what you were trying to achieve?

I hear you! I still live at home and my parents definetely don't have the same eating/exercise habits as me. I go and do my own little shopping trip each week. Just keep focused on what you want to achieve and try not to let the resistance of others bring you down. All of us here are on your side :)

Jenn (AYLE09)

Jenn! haha Hi!

I know, I need to do my shopping trip tomorrow actually! I'm here alone for the week so it's a lot easier, but once they come home I'm only supposed to eat what my mom makes for dinner...and nothing else. But lately I've been including my own stuff. and what's great is that my boyfriend is totally supportive and loves trying new things with me.

It's great to meet you Jenn! I'm Shannon :D

Great to meet you too! I joined Cathnation a while back, and am always reading all the threads, but today is the first days that I decided to "blog in"! haha! I started STS yesterday! It's unbelievable!

Oh you're so lucky!! I haven't bought it, but would LOVE LOVE to! I've been doing the other rotations the past 3 months and have been having a blast with that!

Good luck with STS! You're going to do great!
