Ego much?:p

No, seriously, I am burning up dying hot!!! I'm only 31 WTH??? I've been getting huge bouts of hot/sweating. Just sitting, hanging out doing nothing and BAM!!!! Hot, sweat - want to get nekkid and go stand in the snow. It lasts maybe 4 or 5 mins, and then I'm all wet and sweaty, and depending on where I am, I get cold b/c I'm all sweaty. Its been like this for maybe 3 or 4 weeks and I can't do this anymore!!!! The worst is the middle of the night. I wake up soaked in sweat, and then strip off my blankies and my jammies and then end up cold b/c we sleep with the window cracked open (yes even in the winter). Just this morning, I was sitting in the basement, where its cool, at the computer playing Farmville, and BAM - hot and sweaty!!!! The worst is when I'm in the middle of a workout and already hot and mucked up and it happens, that is nauseating.

I seem a little too young for my hormones to be out of whack, or it to be any menopause kind of thing, but I'm thinking I need to schedule a trip to the Dr, perhaps have some bloodwork done. I can't ask my mom when she went thru all this crap, b/c she is deceased, but I remember her having her period into at least her 40s. I should call my sister - she's 45 - see what she has to say. I was just at the GYN in Nov and everything was good, but this wasn't an issue then, so it was just a standard annual exam.

Health wise for me, everything else is normal, and my cycles are right on and normal. I'm wondering if its not female hormone related, but something else.

Anybody else experience this at a relatively young age? (Look, I get to call myself young today:))

Sure, that happens to me all the time, and I'm "only" 34. It's happened to me for years. It happens sometimes at work, where I'm just sitting and typing - I'll suddenly be SOOOOO hot. Yesterday morning, I woke up hours before my alarm went off and couldn't stay in bed because I was burning up.

I actually thought I had a fever. I checked the thermostat and it was 62 degrees in my apartment (we keep the heat on low overnight). I took the doggies outside and was sweating in my light jacket even though it was 25 degrees. Then we came inside, I had some coffee, and all of a sudden - I was FREEZING.

I don't think I'm actually menopausal, but I think there might be little hormonal fluctuations from time to time that cause stuff like that.

OMG i though it was just ME!!! also i used to crank the heat up to 75 and now i hate it when dh kicks it up to 68!!! i was in shorts yesterday despite the 30 degree weather and now. but i go back and forth i have days where i am chilly(and mostly on 40-50 degree days) while these freezing temps and i have shorts

i too just figured crap i am going to go through menopause by 40(i am pushing on 32)

I've been getting hideous night sweats for a while now (I'm 40), at least since my mid-thirties. They are more regular now and much worse during PMS. The sheets get soaked through. Also when I had Lyme Disease it was unbearable.

I too chalk it up to creeping menopause.

I guess I was lucky the hot flashes and night sweats didn't really start for me until I started menopause in my early 50's. Nan, you're right about the nights being the worst. I don't think I've had a full night's sleep in years. I don't think it would be a bad idea to see the doctor though, just to get some baseline blood work done and some info about HRT to think about.

Estrogen cycles can get out of whack leading to nightsweats etc. Foods (eg. soy products, dairy products w/ bgh), stress, etc can affect estrogen levels. It's not necessarily pre-menopause.

Definitely see your doctor and have her/him check for this. Sorry for what you're going thru and hope you find some relief soon.

Yeah, I'd check with my doctor about hot flashes and night sweats when you're that young. Even when I got, uh, em, "up there," my doctor still gave me a thyroid test, just to make sure it was peri-menopause. Seems like a lot of women just assume that's what it is, when, sometimes, it's not.

Are you taking any prescriptions? It could be a side effect of them. While I was taking Cymbalta it made me sweat all the time. Even in the winter I never wore a coat. Check with your Dr. though, just to make sure.

Good grief! Menopause usually starts in the 50s, so if you're having flashes like that now, it's probably whacky hormones and hopefully not early onset menopause.

I think it's smart to get it checked out. How miserable it has to be to deal with that all the time! At least, the doctor could give you something to balance you back out so you aren't flashing all the time!

Good luck!

I was recently diagosed w/ Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Sounds similar to what I have and was going through - which is an autoimmune disorder. The sweats got worse once I got on Synthroid. You might want to get some bloodwork done.

Good luck!

Hi Nan, sorry you are going through this! Hopefully it is just fluctuating hormones, but it could be more. Unfortunately I went through menopause (yes, the real deal) at age 34-35. It was probably thyroid related, but it hasn't been proven. At the time they never did thyroid antibody tests, only TSH (and called me normal).

Last year I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroid disease, which has a huge effect on fertility and causes premature menopause. :(

1 in 100 women are now going through menopause before age 50, it is getting more common. Not saying you are, just be sure to get it checked out!
Oh, and my mom didn't go through menopause until her 50's and never had a hot flash--saved them ALL for ME!!
