I'm showing way to early anyone else show early?

Cathlete
I'm 14 weeks along with my 4th. I know its only one baby since I have had 2 sonograms already. I swear, I look like I am 18 or 19 weeks along, I am just popping SO early and am already wearing maternity pants.

I'm kinda worried about how big I'm going to get. I have not gained any weight yet but my belly is sticking out to where I look pregnant.

I'm wondering if its because my baby was only 8 months old when I got pregnant again so my muscles are weak from him and having 3 babies already??

Someone else, please tell me you showed early after your first also and make me feel better.

I guess I'm just not ready to look pregnant yet. I know that sounds goofy but its true. I'm just not ready to look the part.

Marci

wow! number 4??!! i was stunned by how early i showed with my second (I'm 23 weeks now). with my daughter i didn't wear maternity clothes until about five months. this time - i've been in them for a while now. even my friends were surprised. so far i've only put on 8 pounds but it's still quite shocking and even a bit depressing. and your fear of becoming a house by the end - same thing here. although so far it seems i popped out really soon but it hasn't grown really quickly since. my midwife assures me it's just because everything has already been stretched out and it "knows right where to go." are you kind of thin? i started this pregnancy 10 pounds lighter (and in better shape) than my first one, so i figure that has something to do with it too.

anyway, know you're not alone in your panic. i almost posted the same question a while back. i keep thinking about something cathe posted some time ago - it's a short time in your life to perform such a miracle.

Dear Marci,
I have always shown early. (I am pregnant with number 5) And by the end of my pregnancies I do look like a house. I get the twin and triplet jokes and comments at around 20 weeks. I dread it when poeple ask me when I'm due because I look like I'm ready to keel over and deliver right then and there, but I have 12 weeks to go. It is embarrassing. But oh well. One benefit is that my belly makes a nice shelf on which to balance a glass or a plate or a book:p.

Anyway congrats on not gaining any weight yet! I have never been able to say that at 14 weeks. sigh.

Maggie

I was in maturnity and bigger size pants at 8 weeks with this baby - number 3. I could not even hide it at work to the end of the first trimester. Now at 23 weeks I feel huge and still have so long to go. I'm afraid I will be really big with this one. I think you have done great to get to 14 weeks with no weight gain. Be proud!

Thanks, you all made me feel better :)

I got the twin comments with number 2 and 3 also. And I DO tend to get big as a house at the end. I hated it when people asked when I was due and they are expecting you to say two weeks, or 2 days, and you say 2 or 3 months.

I was not planning on tellng until 12 weeks, and at 11 weeks one of the moms at my daughter's preschool asked me if I was pregnant. I was shocked since I did not realize I was showing to others so early.

Another neighbor asked me in a very subtle way ( and I thought it was a very clever way since she obviously suspected but did not want to offend me if she was wrong). She said "Do you plan on having anymore kids". To which I said, yes, in about 5 1/2 months. She smiled and told me she suspected for a few weeks but did not want to risk offending me if she was wrong. I thought it was a clever way of asking if I was pregnant without really asking.

As for the weight, I gained 65 lbs EACH with my first 3 babies and it is so darn hard to lose, I swore to myself I would NOT gain like that again. I've been doing my best to workout. I was really sick my first trimester so it really was not hard to not gain but now I'm feeling hungry again so the challenge to not gain too much will be hard but I'm determined to keep my weight gain under 30 lbs, esp since I still carry some lbs from my first 3. I am enjoying working out again and love, love, love step so hopefully that will help keep my weight in line.

I'm realizing I will need maternity tops very soon also since my boobs are huge. I already had to buy new bras. On the bright side, I think my weight has redistributed and while my belly and boobs are growing, my legs are looking slimmer- or maby its just an illusion.

Anyway, my 3 kids are so worth it and when I get depressed about my size I'll just look at them :)

Its still scary though to realize you are growing and have a long way to go and its out of your hands.

My DH thinks its really cool I'm showing, it makes it more real for him- he has this "Hey I did that" attitude, its so funny. He feels like such a stud the bigger I get. I think its so cute how happy he is. I swear he is the one glowing right now, I just want to take a nap all the time!!

Hi Marci, I am not pregnant right now. But reading all your posts makes me want to be! I bet that is why you are showing so early this time, is bec your youngest is only 8 mos. It takes so long for your body to recover. I have only had one (14 mos. ago) but I feel like my stomach has some xtra skin and will pop out right away when I get pregnant again. Just wanted to say Congratulations!

Hi Marci, just wanted to add a few things. Food combining has a lot to do with how chubby we look too. During months 2-3 I was so sick that I was eating anything that would stay down and I gained maybe 5-8 pounds right away, but my stomach was always so bloated looking (like I looked pregnant!!!!) Now at month 16 I got back on my clean diet, I'm sticking to salads, fresh veggies, nuts, some fish like salmon (you have to be careful not to eat fish that are rated high for mercury content) steamed, I'm steaming lots of veggies too that I put on homemade whole wheat tortillas for dinner. I've made some really great sesame balls from sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, pecans, coconut, and honey - that is my snack for the day and they are extremely high in calcium (sesame). Since I'm back on this type of eating and cutting out high carb foods ie. breads/pasta/cracker type stuff I'm actually getting my abs back weird as that may sound. I've dropped 3 pounds in the last two weeks and I'm looking leaner and tighter again and my workouts are finally picking up again. My stomach isn't bloated looking so I no longer "look" as pregnant as I did about 3 weeks ago. I keep thinking "boy, the baby only weighs 8 oz at this point, about 6 inches long, why on earth am I feeling so chubby", but it all had to do with my eating patterns. Just a few thoughts or possibilities.

I should add with the first 4 I always gained 60 pounds and looked pregnant by month 2 and at 5-6 months ALWAYS got the "are you due next week" and twins comments. It can change, but the eating habits have to change, which I will add is hard when your pregnant, but healthier for you and baby! :) :) :)

Sesame Ball Receipe?

Hey Briee! Glad all's working out for you. Did I read on another thread that you are a Wisconsin-ite? I was born and raised in WI. My in-laws have a summer cabin in St. Germain...not too far from you. We live in MN now, but we have the luxury of living on the lake, which is just awesome!! We've never gotten rigged up for skiing, but maybe some day.
Anyways, your sesame balls sound great! Do you have a recipe you could share with us?

RE: Sesame Ball Receipe?

Hi Briee,
thanks for your reply. We are almost exactly the same time along. I am due 12/15. Your post said you were in month 16- ouch imagine how big that baby will be LOL!!! But I know you mean week 16.

Great points about the carbs, I had not thought of that. I am in a similar boat to you in that with 1 and 2 I gained 65 lbs, with number 3 I gained 60 lbs and am NOT going to repeat that again. I have not gained anything yet BUT I must admit I am eating a ton of carbs because its easy to keep down. And I am tired all the time and force myself through my workouts without the energy I have when I'm not pregnant. I just assumed it was due to preganncy but I'll look really hard at my diet and adjust some things, cut down on the carbs some and maybe I'll have more energy and lose this carb bloat. I think you may be right because even though I have not gained anything, even my face looks puffy. I've had the same thought- the baby is so tiny how come my belly is round already.

Wow- you are on #5, you should see the looks I get when I tell people I'm expecting number #4!! If I get one more person telling me I'm nuts I think I will flip. Also, it is really frustrating when people just assume this was a mistake when it was a much wanted baby (as you all know here since I posted before we even tried!!)

You diet sounds so healthy- good for you (and good for your baby!!)

RE: Sesame Ball Receipe?

OOOHHH Marci, month 16....what a terrible thought    !! I guess I should do a preview before I post!!

You just described my situation...I could keep carb type food down and my workouts were just terrible...I was zapped and I kept feeling like "how am I going to keep working out...I just can't do this". AND I felt puffy and bloated. This past week I've been getting the diet back in order and feel so good already (although that can also be that I'm past that yucko stage of early pregnancy). My tummy was so bad for a while that I was buying diet dr. pepper (pop is taboo in our family so this was desperation for me) just to sip and now I've switched to Perrier Lime water when my stomach is really feeling bad, and it helps. I'm still having a terrible time with vitamins...I feel like throwing up after taking them, so I take them at night, but heaven forbid if I should wake in the middle of the night which I usually do! But with the diet change my stomach almost looks 6-packy again, tight with just the slightest protrusion down the middle. 3 weeks ago it stuck out like a bloated ball. I know food must have a lot to do with the "fat feeling". Workouts this week have been great although I take little breaks between sets sometimes, I've got energy again!! Just more encouragement!! Thanks for your note, we are very close in due dates (unless of course I'm due next July :p :p :p , 16 months oh I shudder to think of it!)

Briee

Edited to say that I'm pregnant with baby #6 and yes it is frustrating that people think you weren't really wanting this many children. They stopped asking those questions after baby number 4 and realized we really do like children!! We actually were planning to wait a little longer than we did, but we're happy nevertheless!!

RE: Sesame Ball Receipe?

Almost forgot

Coconut Sesame Balls

3 cups sesame seeds
1 - 1 1/2 cups honey
1 cup unsweetened coconut
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup raw sunflower seeds

Place the sesame seeds on a cookie shet and toast at 350 for about 10 minutes (don't toast them too long).

Once they are done, put them in a blender and blend until the sesame sees are ground. (you might want to do half at a time.

Place the sesame seeds, honey, coconut, vanilla, and sunflower seeds in a bowl and stir well.

Form into balls about 1 inch in diameter

Refridgerate for half and hour or more before serving.

I eat this in place of candy if I get a sweet craving and they are sesame seeds are really high in calcium. I don't eat any dairy so I like this substitute.

RE: Sesame Ball Receipe?

Hi Briee,
I ate much healthier yesterday, and while I don't have more energy today in general, it was much easier to make it through my workout this morning! Plus I just feel better about myself eating healthier. I went to the store last night and loaded up on healthy stuff. I got some cashews and peanuts for when I'm really needing "junk" so at least even my just will have some nutrition.

You must be a very patient woman for 6 kids. Good thing you workout because you will need all the energy you can get.

Marci

RE: Sesame Ball Receipe?

Marci, it took me a few days of healthy eating for the energy to kick in....your doing great!! Lets see...patience and 6 kids......I have to admit to you...I have it easier than you. I had lots of space in between children. They are 13, 10, 8, 4 and 14 mos. What that translates into is....now I have at least two or three who can help with EVERYTHING like watching the baby so I can workout, so I can take a nap, so I can get a shower, etc.... I've noticed it is a whole different story when you have 3-4 children under the age of 5-6. That is a very intense time and I want to say that as they grow older and can help more it gets easier. My very close cousin is right in that stage and I get a kick out the stories of what her little ones are getting into. Mine are spaced so much that there is always an older one taking away something the younger one shouldn't have etc....so I can't claim loads of energy (or patience for that matter)....just a little more help!! :7 :7 :7 :7

RE: Sesame Ball Receipe?

Briee:
I attempted to make the sesame seed balls yesterday. Here was my challenge: my grocery store sold sesame seed balls in 1/9 cup packages for 0.99, as you can see...this receipe would have cost me more than a steak dinner for the entire family!!! Do you buy your sesame seeds in bulk somewhere? I made it with 1/3 cup of sesame seed & modified with more pecans & sunflower seeds. I'm sure the receipe is more fattening & less healthy. The balls didn't stick together, but it was still good. I scooped the goo into cupcake wraps. It's more like a granola goo now.

RE: Sesame Ball Receipe?

I belong to a health food coop called "Blooming Prairie" and another from "Country Life" and they both carry 5# packages of sesame seeds and if I remember correctly they were about $12.00 or so and they are really fresh and last a long time in the freezer. I'd never buy them from the grocery store because of the cost and they usually don't taste as good. So sorry they didn't work. I'd probably add more honey if they were sticking together, possibly the oil content in the seeds was not the same as this can make a difference. Sometimes, my hands are really oily when I'm finished from the sesame oil that works out of the seeds. They actually sound good as granola goo!!!

By the way I love your signature....probably the best one I've seen!!

Briee

RE: Sesame Ball Receipe?

Yum... I'm on a coconut craving right now... this would most probably do the trick for me... Will make them tonight!

BTW, I'm not visibly pregnant at 12 weeks BUT, my clothes are getting tighter. I don't think I will be able to fit in my regular clothes for very long now. It does depress me...

RE: Sesame Ball Receipe?

OK, call me crazy for my going nuts (little pun there!;) ) with this recipe, but for some reason I just thought it sounded great!

I just made them, and all I can say is mmmmmmmmmmm.........

I would like to add my thoughts though, as some people have tried them without the best success. I can see where next time I would do it a bit differently. Most important, I think, is the grinding of the sesame seeds. If you don't get them down to more of a powdery like consistancy than you will have trouble with them balling up well. That may be where that "too much honey" can enter the picture. I added a couple of shakes of cinnamon as well.

I also think an addition to the recipe should be Cathe workouts because without that you will not have the arm strength to mix this up!

Thanks for a good one, I was craving something sweet like this. Any ideas of the nutritional values? I was also wondering if there is a site that you can submit recipes to for that purpose. I have a friend who is doing WW and wants to know the exchange.

RE: Sesame Ball Receipe?

Okay. I guess I'm just cooking challenged. I guess I should have mentioned that from the beginning. I don't cook to much. My dear husband was a chef when I married him & he does the lion's share of the cooking. Thanks for the recipe, perhaps I'll try it again when I can have all the ingredients! Have a great day.

P.S. Someone remind me that this pregnancy nausea will go away soon. I've been so ill for the past 2 days. Yuk! I"m 11 week along. It'll all be behind me by week 14, right?!?!

RE: Sesame Ball Receipe?

Dani, thanks for adding your thoughts and glad you enjoyed them. Our family is really health conscious so I take some things for granted and I really shouldn't, I am so sorry.....we have a Vitamix to grind them in and this "pulverizes" the little seeds to smithereen's which I'm sure helps the "sticking together" problem you are experiencing. In fact, like I noted, I find that my hands are so oily from the sesame oil that is drawn out of the seeds....this too is probably from the "fineness of the grind" and helps it stick together. Once I refridgerate them, they are almost hard to bite off....kind of like a snicker's bar kind of chewy. I'm sorry I don't have the nutritional value stuff...I usually just figure it out by what's in it, but nothing scientific. Sesame is really high in calcium, sunflower seeds are good for sooo many things, I believe vitamin E, they also add good oils to your skin to make it less dry which is a great help while pregnant, I'll have to think some more about that one. I don't know anything about WW so I'm not sure what exchanges would be included there.

Melanie....what a blessing.....a chef for a husband, especially when your in the first tri of pregnancy. THE SICKNESS WILL END REALLY SOON. I'm finally feeling better myself and it seemed to take soooooo long....but I'm better and in just a few days to weeks you will be better too!!! (did that help :) :) :) ???) I always wish that once I find out I'm pregnant I could go to sleep and wake up at week 16 or so, those weeks are an eternity. Any day now!!!!!!!

If anyone out there has a champion juicer (we just got one at a garage sale this weekend) we discovered the absolute "to die for recipe" which isn't a recipe at all. It would be worth your money to just buy a champion juicer to make this all the time (it will replace your icecream craving for good!!). There is a blank screen included which does something called "homogonizing" (not the kind you read on a milk container). You feed frozen strawberries and bananas into the thing and out the end comes strawberry icecream and the consistency makes you think that there is milk and cream and sweetener in it. I don't know how it does it, but it is just like soft serve strawberry icecream, but pure fruit. DEFINITELY WORTH THE INVESTMENT, but I've seen them used in the classifieds.
