I'm really sorry....I need Prevacid help

I switched from Nexium to Prevacid and really like it. I started it last Friday. Yesterday right after working out, I noticed a couple of small patches of hives but they didn't itch. Thought it was heat/sweat related and by the later afternoon, they were gone. This morning, after working out, I noticed more hives, mainly in the same place and this time they did itch a little. They also were on my arms slightly which they were not the first day. Now they're gone. I'm worried it's the Prevacid causing them. I'm almost willing to put up with it since I haven't had any swelling of the throat, face, lips, etc. Just hives. But is the more serious swelling on the way or would it have already happened? I really don't want to stop taking it and go back to Nexium because of the possible weight gain/hair loss side effect. I know there are other PPI's out there but how many drugs should one person have to go through!!! Thanks for letting me vent.

Kim - sorry you are going through this. That's why I hate taking medicine - always thinking I am getting a side effect and then I just quit. I've had some freaky side effects so I am hypersensitive. I looked up prevacid. I found one site that said 4.3% of people get a rash from taking it. Hives and rash are a side effect. Weird that it would happen after working out. Maybe your body heat does something to activate some chemical in the medicine?

Well like I said, I can handle the hives and who knows...maybe they'll stop all together. Everything I looked up said stop taking it and call the dr immediately if you get a rash or hives...probably because it can be accompanied by swelling of the throat and such.
