If you are doing P90X - what rotation do you do?

CarenG

Cathlete
I did one month of P90X Classic rotation, but decided to start it up again later in July because with all of the stuff I have going on this summer I wouldn't be able to do it consistently, and when I do it I want to do the full 90 days uninterupted. So I went back to a cathe rotation until then.

Anywho, here is my question - I am thinking of doing the lean rotation instead of the classic when I start it again in July, since I'm not really concerned with buildng bulk. I am wondering what rotations other people are using and why, and if you are happy with the rotation you choose?

Thanks!

Caren

Well, I'm only in my second week, so I don't know how much this will contribute:

I'm doing the classic rotation, with low reps and higher weights. I really wanted to try to build some muscle...if it looks like I'm getting two big (which I don't think will happen since I really can't see my muscles much unless I flex and I've been working out consistently for a year and 10 months) I'll just lower the weights and up the reps. I still have some fat to get rid of. :D

I am on my first recovery week after doing the Classic rotation for the last 3 weeks. I will start the Doubles rotation next week. As I am wanting to loose some more weight and get some muscle definition back and as I already run 3x a week, I have kinda been doing the Doubles already.

This is the best I have felt in a long time, I think P90X was a very good change for me...:)...Carole

Like Carole, I also do a sort of double. I usually add 20-30 min cardio to the workouts. I try to choose rather heavy weights and do 12-15 reps.

I love the different moves also!

Mari

Same here with adding 'sort of a double'. While I most always did a double type workout with my Cathe rotations, (a cardio and then a weight workout), I'm not sure I can truly commit to a Double with P90X as the weight work is intense enough at this point. I'm still in Phase One, so I'll see how next week goes. I've tried out the CardioX workout and I think it is fun. I would probably do whatever cardio that got my heartrate up to my intensity though.
I'm trying to go as heavy with less reps. I see already, I need to get some heavier weights. 20#'s on the lawnmower move and elsewhere, is getting too easy. I may get up to those 35# dumbells that Kathyrn used by Fall. LOL

I too am enjoying these different moves. All this talk about P90X and Cathe is really going to kill us in her next series!}( }(

(aside to Cathe: If I knew you were going to make this sort of a workout in your next set, I would write you out a check or give you my credit card right here and now on the spot. :9 )

Oh boy! Am I crazy or what? Brute for punishment...that's me. LOL

I'm starting p90x tonight and I am PSYCHED!!!! After reading the posts, previewing my vids, doing my fit test, and prepping my workout space...I am ready to really BRING IT! I can feel the love fest coming on.

Wanda, I'm glad to know it's not just me that would KILL for a series like this from Cathe. I said to my husband last night...p90x by Cathe would be like a rocket ship straight to the moon!!!! I'd preorder today.

What you said, Letswork. I love P90X and it would be heaven on earth for Cathe to do something like this.

well, hmmm.

Your all making me think I should do the doubles instead of Lean. That's pretty much what I was doing before - the classic, but I threw in a couple Powerstrike workouts a week.

I am doing the classic rotation, with some substitutions for Yoga X (other yoga workouts) or Kenpo X (other kickboxing) from time to time, and once every few weeks some extra cardio, either as a day by itself or in addition to a P90X workout. I'm doing heavy weights high reps, go figure!

I have noticed that while my upper body looks great from this, and my abs (I actually have a waist now instead of being straight up and down!), and my legs are lean, my butt is small and low, which is not the look I want, so I decided to add in some heavy leg presses (on my Soloflex Rockit) once a week to add some lift and roundness.

I love P90X! And I love the classic rotation. I might do a doubles rotation in the future, but the lean rotation doesn't really interest me since each week you omit a certain body part from upper body weight work. It just doesn't seem as well-thought-out as the Classic rotation.

When I do p90x I do all the upperbody in one day.One session in the morn and one in the even.I really feel this ouch....but it works for me I only do this once every week and other upperbody tapes.I've recently started working upper 3x-4x a week so my rotation looks like this
sun-p90x upper all
mon-lower and cardio
tues- body-b-fit boot camp upper or another endurance wt workout and cardio
wed- cardio/lower mix
thurs-pub upper
fri- rest
sat- endurance upper body
my cardio is only 20 min and usually a hitt workout everyday is differnt
running-spinning-plyometrics-or another tape
I have really devolped some nice muscles with this rotation. But when I first got p90x I did this
p90x one upper tape- chest -triceps -shoulders -cardio in p.m
p90x one upper tape - back-biceps cardio in p.m
legs
p90x chest back-cardio p.m
p90x shoulders and arms-cardio p.m
legs
rest start over and I add 10 mins of yoga on leg days

I have been doing the Classic Rotation. I just started Phase 2, today. I weighed and measured this morning and was very happy with the results. In one month, with less than perfect eating, I lost a 1/2" in my hips, thighs, and waist. I also lost one lb. My eating was good the first two weeks, and the last two weeks, it has not been terrible, but it could have used some improving. I have also kinda been doing Doubles, because I do some kind of leg work every day, PLB ball work, weighted ankle work from L&G's, and on the cardio days, I do an additional leg workout w/ weights. I did ok on Chest, shoulders, and triceps, but I know next week I will do better once I have done the workout once already. I really like this series!!!!!!!!

OUCH!!! ALL the upper tapes! And HIIT cardio to boot?? Wow, that is awesome. I don't know how you guys do it. P90X is leaving me incapacitated enough just doing each upper body part ONCE per week!!

I am not following a "rotation". I guess I am the ONLY one that is just using these tapes as additional workouts, worked in with Cathe. I am liking the "dabbling" that I am getting. I do try to tack on another lower body weights segment....I don't like how P90X uses very little weight exercises in the Leg tape. I like the tape, I just would like a little "extra".

I gotta really kick my butt into gear, so I can get strong!! I just got my new heavy bands today and tomorrow is Chest/Back Round 1 (I am only doing one round) and 30 min. cardio!! Oh, and Ab Ripper..

Janice

oh no I didn't mean all 4 tapes.I meant back-biceps a.m -chest shoulders and triceps p.m OR back and chest a.m shoulders and arms p.m and the next week I do the one I didn't do.all 4 tapes in one day would kill me:)

I thought I would chime in here--I just started P90X tonite w/ chest and back; boy have I been humbled!!!! I am already sore and it has only been an hour since I completed it! I have to modify some of the push-ups because of wrist problems. Even so, I don't think I have ever done so many push-ups in my life!

Question: What type of exercised do you do in place of pull-ups? I don't have a bar and the bands won't work because I have nothing to wrap them around. I am using dumbells trying to mimic what they are doing on the dvd, but I am curious as to whether or not there are some exercizes that make better substitutions than others??.....

By the way, I am starting off with the classic rotation.

I just started P90X this morning - chest and back and substituted dumbbell pullovers for the pull-ups. I ordered a Door Gym, but it hasn't arrived yet. Great workout - I loved it!

I don't know what I'm going to do about a rotation - I'm a runner and need to fit in more cardio. Also, I like doing more lower body work. I'm going to have to modify the classic rotation to fit my needs I guess.

Erica

Hi Erica, I'm a runner too and currently run 3 days a week while doing P90X. I do add another day of legs with one of Cathe's workouts. I add another day of shoulders, tri's and biceps also. So I don't think you will have any problem modifying P90X...so far it has been an awesome workout for me...:)...Carole

Has anybody taken before pictures and posted them on the beachbody website?

I am not sure if I believe all those extreme transformations in just 90 days. I've done Cathe for years, increasing my strength/stamina tremendously - but I doubt I'll add much visual results. I am too much of a tall ectomorph to actually see my muscles.:-(

Carole...

Would you mind posting your rotation for me? I'd love to copy it if you don't mind - it sounds perfect.

Erica

I just started P90X yesterday. I have had it for a while and have just now gotten the nerve to try it :+ I am going to try to do the Classic Rotation with 30 minutes of running or cardio on the days that I do the weight work. Then this morning when I did PlyoX, I added the floorwork from Firm Volume I. I have also been thinking of putting in a leg workout (i.e. L&G) once per week, cause I am not sure if the one leg workout will be enough for me. We will see!

Anyway...I love the series! I am excited and ready to get on with it and Bring It!!!

Linda

Re: Carole...

Never mind, I figured out a rotation for myself. I tried to delete my original post, but it said the editing time was over. That was fast!
