If not from Cathe...

I have Ironwear weighted vests.
For more info, there's a thread in the STS forum (title something about 'is the weight vest washable") where some of us are discussion those vests.

I have a GoFit weighted vest that I bought at Dicks. I don't like it at all though. It's way too long and very bulky and always getting in the way. I'm looking forward to Cathe's which seems to be smaller and less awkward.

Hey Kathryn..

What would be your opinion on weighted vest in addition to weight BB for squats?
I dont have a squat rack (yet) and I can't lift a BB heavy enough over my head for the strength training Id like to do..
Do you think it would be comparable to wear the vest to add extra weight (even though its not in the same place)??

Absolutely!
As long as you find a vest that's comfortable to wear while holding a bar across your shoulders.

I've used a weighted vest when I want to lift heavier on squats than I feel is safe to maneouvre overhead with my shoulder strength. (I set an 'upper limit' to the weight of a barbell I will use when loading from the floor, like Cathe does in pre-STS workouts, and add extra weight with the vest).

When adding weight with the vest (I'm thinking of the Ironwear one, which is adjustable, washable and has no metal parts to rust and fits snuggly--at least the "COOL VEST" does), I pay attention to the distribution of the weights in the vest: I start at the bottom of the vest, then after that's filled, go up the center back.)

Hi There:
I just bought this one:
http://www.ironwearfitness.com/cool-vestshort-breathable-1-to-18-lb-weighted-v.html

It's the same one as Kathryn has. It's comfy, weight-adjustable(up to 18 pounds with 1/2# weights), washable, and has flexible weights(that don't leak sand). This is the cooler mesh fabric version, so I think it's better than the closer weave fabric that doesn't breathe much. I like it a lot, and it fits well, and looks good. Since I just got it, I haven't worked out with it, but will do ME or PLB today to test it out. Oh, it's $99 on sale right now.....

ETA: This is the "Cool Short" & won't be too long to get in the way doing squats or whatever exercise you do. Also, as Kathryn mentioned you can distribute the weights evenly in the vest when you add them. (I should get a commission for saying all these good things about the vest! )

Here is the link to the thread that Kathryn was referring to:
