I was about to sell Four Day Split when.....

I remembered that I have always wanted to sell Cathe workouts that totally frustrated me!!!! and I would eventually learn to love them. Before I was a Catheite I bought and sold Low Max and Kick Max two times. Now, they are two of my favorites. Well.....I was beginning to think that this 4Day Split "thing" was not for met at all. But finally, finally I got the foot work, and now of course I am "in love." But, I must say a little more cueing....particularly in HIS would not have hurt. Another thing that really helped was to not use any risers at all for HIS. That part when Cathe says, "Dig, Dig, Dig, I didn't know for the longest time what I was doing.....but now I can "DIG" YEAH!!!!!!!

I can so relate to your frustration, but doesn't it feel fabulous to finally master the steps?! I was very turned off by the 4DS Step workouts, at first. I have been doing Step since it started in 1989, but HIS had me swearing like a sailor. I spent many hours rewinding, until I finally "freed up my brain" and got it! I'm diggin' it now;-)

I'm glad you posted this. I have not reached for 4Day split since I first got it and shut it off in frustration. I've been thinking of selling/trading it but I really, really want to love it. I will hang on until I can get the patience to return to it and attempt to learn it.

Oh yeah, I definately modify that last blast portion. No Leapage for me. That's a trip to the ER just waiting to happen

Sarah:(

Hang onto it!!! The 4DS is great!! I do the CardioPower and DoubleCardio for my aerobic workout. Those two premixes are great!! I love all the blasts of both step workouts and am working to conquer the last one too. The more you do 4DS, the easier the routines and blasts get.

I love the music in this series and it draws me to it. I was getting frustrated at first as well. I have had problems with the last blast on high intensity Step. I think I am getting it and Cathe is done. I have improved and from past experience I know it will click and I will have it. I really think with all of the dvds that I own that some new choreography keeps me on my toes, LOL. I would not give up a Cathe workout. How many other workouts have the mix and match option? She has so many premixes on these. Another thing is I have found that Cathe has better soundtracks in her newer dvd's that you don't find repeated in everyone elses. I hate getting another dvd and I am working out to the same music. I have learned to get rid of some risers to really work on the choreography.

HIS was the hardest for me to get down too. I was Sooooo frustrated. At first I liked the power up between the routines towards the end because it was the only thing I could actually do...lol. Now I wish they were taken out and I could just do all the routines one after another.

I have only tried the step workouts once and decided they are too hard for me right now. But I would never sell the set because it is worth it for the kickbox, bootcamp and weight workouts!!! I love everything about 4day split except the step but I'm sure when I give them a chance again I will get it. If not, not biggie. I can just do some other cardio instead. I did the upperbody weights premix this morning before coming to work and I loved it. I am going to be very sore tommorrow!!!

I may end up doing kickbox and bootcamp back to back tommorrow. That would be an awesome workout!!!!!

Just a suggestion on the final step combo on HIS. Cathe says, I believe, "shuffle, turn, hitch kick," and I kept shuffling backward, like she does on LIS and Rhythmic Step. The cue should be "shuffle forward, turn, hitch kick on step." If you shuffle forward and turn, it brings you right behind the long end of the step for the hitch kick. It worked for me, even though the whole sequence is still a bit fast for me. But I am getting it.

Personally, I can not stad the final blast in Higher Impact Step.

It is way too high impact and dangerous for me.

When I do that blast, I choose to lower my step to 4 in which throws the entire workout off for me.

I agree -- I mastered the choreography almost immediately, but that last HIS blast is definitely dangerous.

All it takes is just under or over estimating that jump over the step and back up on the step to end up with a sprain or broken bone.

No workout is worth that......

I "pony" over the step--not hop. It's not dangerous if you do it that way. You can modify it other ways too. Just step up on the step, jump onto the step, march in place, do some sort of jump, etc.

Also, in combo three, I prefer to shuffle with my foot ON the step--not on the floor. It helps to know which way to turn and you don't get too far away from the step (so you're ready for the hitch-kick).

I agree the third combo in HIS is the hardest one! I would recommend practice the last combo first! It will help with the frustrations! Eventually you get the steps down! HIS is my favorite from the 4DS series! I love the music in that one too! Hang in there! The 4DS are alot of fun!

I jump over the step, but I let one foot lead instead of jumping with both feet together. Feels less dangerous to me that way.

Allison, I am definitely going to try your idea of shuffling with one foot on the step. My problem with that move is that I always end up too far away to do the hitch kick after I shuffle! Thanks!

I got 4-Day Split for the weight work. I finally got around to trying HIS this week. I was cooking right along thinking it wasn't so hard when I hit combo 3... Well, it totally confused me just like I heard it would. :) I'm excited to take on this new challenge!

I love this series. The workouts, music, production, premixes, and Cathe's little comments make this series a "must have" IMHO.
