I Ran the Whole Marathon!!!!

I still can't believe it!! I completed the whole thing! I'm not even sore--stiff, but not sore. I certainly didn't break any speed records (5 hours, 8 minutes), but I did make my personal best for my leg of the relay (7 miles in 62 minutes). After that, I slowed down and told myself I'd run until something hurt that shouldn't. It was all good! It was so fun to tell my family. My son keeps calling me his "Marathon-running Mom."

You guys were right about racing. What a fabulous experience!!!! The scenery was gorgeous, the weather perfect, the volunteers and spectators so awesome and encouraging, the course just right, the organization impeccable. I have nothing to compare it to, but I can't imagine a better marathon. I can't wait until next year when I can actually train for this. My goal is to get as close to 4 hours as possible. I really lucked out on the weather, though. Spring in Utah is notoriously unpredictable, and we've been going from 60's to snow all this spring. But it was 70 degrees and gorgeous on race day.

I credit STS for being able to finish this year. I finished my 3 1/2 month STS Strength/Cardio rotation on May 1. I incorporated one long run (either 7 or 10 miles) each week. The following week, I did 3 runs totaling 23.45 miles, HiiT Pyramid, 2 Kettlebell workouts, and yoga each day. The next week, I did 1 long, slow run (10 miles) on Monday, 2 mile easy run on Wednesday, yoga each day, and the Marathon on Saturday. So, except for the end, I only ran once per week. HiiT and Plyo Legs helped so much, as did the whole rotation. I felt so strong and in balance.

Thanks to you all for your support, advice, and encouragement! Come to Utah next year, and we'll do this together. http://www.ogdenmarathon.com/

Elsie--GREAT JOB!! So excited for you. Doesn't it feel GREAT??!!:D I'm in Utah too, but really not a runner. How 'bout a triathlon?!;)

Thanks, Ellesan. I'd have to get over my water phobia:p. I admire you triathletes. Where in Utah are you? I'm excited to "meet" another Cathlete in Utah. I'm from the south-east of Salt Lake (Cottonwood Heights) and currently reside in Syracuse.

Wow, that is awesome! Congrats to you. I did my first half this year and when I got to the finish line, I couldn't imagine turning around and doing it all over again! My hat's off to you! Awesome job!

Congrats to you -- running a marathon is one of those things only a small fraction of the population ever sets out to do -- so you are literally one in a million!!!

I'm running my 2nd marathon in 6 weeks -- be careful... these things can be addictive!!!

Elsie - Congratulations! What a wonderful experience and WTG on doing the whole thing!!! I have great respect for anyone who can do a full marathon! DH is doing his first full marathon in October in DC and I'll be doing my first race - a 10K!

You did great! So, what's your next challenge?

Congrats! You set out to do one leg of the marathon relay and ended up doing the whole 26.2 miles?!!...Way to go!!! 5 hours and 8 mins is one awesome time for a 1st marathon....:)...You are one of the few people I have heard of that can run a marathon without specifically training for that particular distance...You Rock!....and Happy Marathoning...

Wow!!! Congrats!! I have my 1st half on Labor Day, and if that goes well, am hoping to sign up for Chicago in 2011. I signed up for my half on a day I wasn't feeling so well, so I blame it on being delusional. Scared silly, I am. But can't wait all at the same time.

I will keep your post in my head, and I will DO IT!!!!!

Congrats, and thanks for some motivation.

Nan
