I still can't believe it!! I completed the whole thing! I'm not even sore--stiff, but not sore. I certainly didn't break any speed records (5 hours, 8 minutes), but I did make my personal best for my leg of the relay (7 miles in 62 minutes). After that, I slowed down and told myself I'd run until something hurt that shouldn't. It was all good! It was so fun to tell my family. My son keeps calling me his "Marathon-running Mom."
You guys were right about racing. What a fabulous experience!!!! The scenery was gorgeous, the weather perfect, the volunteers and spectators so awesome and encouraging, the course just right, the organization impeccable. I have nothing to compare it to, but I can't imagine a better marathon. I can't wait until next year when I can actually train for this. My goal is to get as close to 4 hours as possible. I really lucked out on the weather, though. Spring in Utah is notoriously unpredictable, and we've been going from 60's to snow all this spring. But it was 70 degrees and gorgeous on race day.
I credit STS for being able to finish this year. I finished my 3 1/2 month STS Strength/Cardio rotation on May 1. I incorporated one long run (either 7 or 10 miles) each week. The following week, I did 3 runs totaling 23.45 miles, HiiT Pyramid, 2 Kettlebell workouts, and yoga each day. The next week, I did 1 long, slow run (10 miles) on Monday, 2 mile easy run on Wednesday, yoga each day, and the Marathon on Saturday. So, except for the end, I only ran once per week. HiiT and Plyo Legs helped so much, as did the whole rotation. I felt so strong and in balance.
Thanks to you all for your support, advice, and encouragement! Come to Utah next year, and we'll do this together. http://www.ogdenmarathon.com/
