I still have Tony Little tapes in my house...EEEKKKK!!!!! LOL! Talk about annoying!! Yeah, Denise Austin is very annoying too. Still waiting for Cathe's new tapes too. I just think she is the best and alot of men are afraid of her too! LOL!}(

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's awful buying a new workout only to find out that the instructor or people in the background annoy you. Great workout or not, sometimes I wish I could push a button that would cut the stupid speaking volume. Now that I've been working out with Cathe for a few months, the little things from other instructors that sort of used to bother me now REALLY bother me. I actually find myself cursing at them while I work out! x( Not the best way to get your heartrate up, eh? ;)

I know I have a hard time finding anything that lives up to Cathe-standards! LOL

The one non-Cathe thing I have found that I truly enjoy are my rebounding work outs but that is completely different from anything Cathe offers and therefore it would be unfair to compare the 2. Now, if Cathe ever gets into rebounding I am sure that I will quickly learn to hate the rebounding work outs I currently have (and ENJOY!). LOL :p

Hey Anne,

It's ok, you can take it out on Denise.:7

I agree, other than the yoga DVDs I've purchased, I've only been consistently happy with Cathe. Thank goodness I don't have all of Cathe's yet and can still order while waiting for my preorder of the new DVDs.}(

Have you ever tried Christi Taylor? I like her.

You ARE crabby, but you're trying to quit smoking, so anything is bound to p*ss you off.! Denise Austin is enough to make anyone crabby at any time!

Anne,

It's okay for you to be crabby - just don't give in to those cigarettes!

I used to work with Denise Austin's sister. There are either 4 or 5 girls in their family (I can't remember) and only one of them looks and sounds just like Denise - the one I worked with! She was a sweetheart though. And actually I think that Denise might be good for motivating people who don't work out. I'm sure if she's anything like her sister she's genuinely very, very kind. I think Denise looks great and I say more power to her for staying so healthy and looking so good all these years while working and raising a family. And she's obviously been very successful. That's my little Denise soapbox for today. Hehehe.

Hang in there on the smoking! You're awesome!!!

I recently bought Kelly Coffey-Meyer's dvd "Get Ready, Step, Go." It is a great step/interval workout, and she is not annoying at all. :)

I do have to agree with everyone on Denise Austin. She is just so saccharine and chipper that at 5AM in the morning you just want to smack her with a sneaker to knock some silly sense into her. Yikes, oh my, did I just say that...and I'm not even the violent type:eek: (I bet she is real sweet in person and has the patience of a saint....I just can't workout to her.)

One of my first step tapes was Denise Austin. Her constant blather, talk about "burning that butter" and "bra overhang," and talking to us as if we were 3 year olds was quite annoying. The minute she had us do a step off the side of the step, then 'wiggle," I decided she was not for me. And she thi nson-blinking, bug-eyed way of looking at the camera that annoys me. Some of her more recent titles sound interesting, but I just couldn't bring myself to try her again.

However, there are a lot of other instructors I like: Gin Miller, Tony Horton, Kellie Roberts, Kimberly Spreen, Illaria Montanari. I couldn't imagine just sticking with one instructor. It would be too boring for me, and I don't think I'd get as well-rounded of a workout, because no one instructor offers everything, and they often tend to be somewhat repetitive. I like different personalities and different perspectives.

I've tried a lot of others, and I have a few I use for spice, but nobody is close to Cathe. I think she spoils me for everything else. She is a great combination of challenging intensity, challenging choreography and professional production. Plus her personality that comes through is balanced - she is not too hyper or too drill-sgt. or too anything. I know she is not perfect -- I think she in general doesn't cater to the beginner (but I don't have her beg.-int. workouts).
Here's what I use for spice - Powerstrike Millenium 2, Frannie Benedetto, Yoga Booty Ballet, Yoga Zone, Kathy Smith kickbox and functional fitness and I throw Step Till You Drop in there sometimes. Now, all of these are basically "too" easy and I use them for easy days. I have bought a lot of others (Gin Miller, various CIA, Kari A.) but eventually quit using them, find my fingers walk back to Cathe.

I have almost all her stuff so it's a wide selection. And am I anxious for new content --- Geez, but I would never post that to her, I am completely supportive of Cathe being conservative with her injury. I want to continue getting new workouts for many, many years to come!

I can relate....Tony is annoying - too loud like someone in a bar after a few too many....Denise and her voice - need we say more on that? The firm went crap and turned into what every other workout became and I cannot stand the 'instructors'...however the original ones from the eighties and nineties I still have but they are only in vhs.

I am researching Cathe now. I want something intense and to the point without a lot of fluff (like most of them are)...I want to build my upper and lower body and so many tapes are too easy and cater to people who really don't want to spend too much time or effort to workout...I cant seem to find anything great anymore! So I ordered a few Cathe dvds and I hope I love them!

The only one that I like right now is Leslie Sansone...she does a walking workout which is pretty good but I want to combine that with upp er and lower body and incorporate a step up box routine...outside of that - I had them all and they are sitting under a pile of dust in the basement right now.

I bought the TLT's and love those but they are completely different from Cathe. I want to try Power 90X but I'm afraid to order b/c of all the customer service nightmares I've heard about and I'm afraid I too would find Tony annoying. I'm eyeing workouts by a new instructor but I'm waiting for previews of her new workouts and more reviews before ordering. I really want to find some more instructors to cross train with my Cathe workouts. I have gotten into yoga/pilates/stretching more lately. Good luck in your search. I know the feeling. I tried a lot of workouts before ordering the TLT's and luckily I loved those, but they are not for everyone!

I have found the reviews and discussions over on VF to be very helpful, particularly the threads (versus formal reviews), since I think the only people motivated to write reviews tend to be those that either loved or hated a workout. I'd rather get the middle view, if you know what I mean. I'm considering a few new workouts at the moment but I'm still on the fence about them. I just rejoined Netflix and I'm hoping that will satisfy my craving to try new instructors. If I really like something, I can then buy it.

I have the TLTs and I like them but I struggle with how to work them into my rotation. I have some Janis Saffell and Christi Taylor but so far they haven't really clicked with me. I love rebounding but unfortunately there are few workouts for that equipment! I am dying to order P90X as well as the new Turbo Jams, but I do dread ordering from Beach Body. I have heard if you do the one-time payment and ship overnight, you are least likely to have issues....

I think home workouts are addicting!

I have found I really like Janis Saffel but aside from that, I have wasted several $$ on videos lately. I bought P90X Ab Ripper and can see why some people find Tony annoying. He talks like he's teaching kindergarten but I just don't let it bother me.

I didn't know they still sold tapes. Everything I see now is DVD and I just replaced my entire collection to DVD.
