Ok, here's the deal. Yesterday and today I have actually been able to wear jeans that I haven't worn in months, maybe a year. Yay!!! Here's the problem, I'm not sure how I got here. At the beginning of the year I started counting calories and eating a little more. I have since lost at least 2-3 pounds. Great, but I've been at this weight before and still couldn't wear these jeans. Over the last 2 weeks I've done different workouts and was wondering which of these may have made me slimmer through the hips/thighs. (Of note, I took my measurements and they seem the same, yet I can wear these jeans!!)Here's what I've done.

Sun - 30 min cardio plus bicep work
Mon - Slow & Heavy Chest and Back
Tues - Slow & Heavy Biceps and Triceps plus 30 min of cardio
Wed - Slow & Heavy Legs
Thurs - 40 minutes of cardio
Fri - Muscle Endurance
Sat - Rest
Sun - Kick Punch and Crunch
Mon - SS Shape It Up
Tues - SS Mix It Up
Wed - 1/2 of SS Tone It Up (got totally bored on 3rd day with all the lunging and squating and had to stop).

Did I get smaller because of all the weight work in general? I can't possibly imagine I got smaller from only 2-1/2 days of Slim Series workouts. I was planning on starting back on Slow and Heavy today, but if the Slim Series are working, I want to stick with them.

Plus, I've started adding in a protein bar every afternoon as my snack to get in extra protein. Could this have helped also?

What do ya'll think?

Sometimes that happens to me if I wash my jeans and then let them air dry.

That's the only explanation I can come up with--sorry! ;-)

:) Thanks Wendy. These particular jeans have just been hanging in my closet, however. I tried them on about 3 weeks ago and they did not fit. I could get them on, but they were entirely too tight. I've taken it upon myself to say that the Slow & Heavy series is what is helping and I'm going to keep doing that series for at least 2 more weeks.

I just can't bring myself to do the Slim Series workouts. They are so boring and I can't stick with them.

Kelley even though iam by no means an expert but for about 3 months I have dcreased my cardio an done more weight s either the Pure strenght tapes each 2 times a week or the Pyramids each rotating daily and the Muscle endurance and power hour rotating weekly do each 1 either 2 or 3 times per week and I have gotten smaller too not in just 2 weeks but definitely i believe the weights are what is doing it As I have not altered any eating. I have shortened my cradio and increased the intensity
hope this helps

Thanks Lisa. That is exactly what I've done. I lowered my cardio big time and upped my weights and got smaller in just 2 weeks.

Ok, that's good, but keep in mind that you are doing this for your HEALTH, not JUST your appearance, so try to keep at least 3 cardio sessions in there per week. Even if it is just walking at a moderate pace, which is good for your HEART!!! Shedding fat is good for your health, too, and if that's what upping the weights does for you that is a bonus, but it isn't conditioning your heart.

Ok, enough, right?

Hi there - I have found this thread full of great advice. In fact I have been considering lessening my cardio and focusing more on weights and this is very encouraging.

That said, I wouldn't go as far as saying that weight training isn't conditioning your heart. Whether you are working on heavy weights or endurance style lifting, your heartrate does increase. My own heartrate gets higher when I am lifting than when I am brisk walking.
If it's an activity that gets your heartrate out of it's normal zone, it's doing something good for it. Just my opinion.

Thanks for all the replies. I was doing 5-6 days per week of cardio with light weight work, but now I'm doing heavy weight work with 3 days of cardio.

Hi Lizzie
yes I agree my heart rate definitely gets up there when say doing something like Muscle endurance I still always do some cardio usually walking on treadmill at least 4 to 5 times a week Purely fo r the good feeling it gives me and of corse all the helath benefits I try to mix it up short hard 1 day, intervals 1 day and steady state I am just really loving th eweights could really get into doing it everyday but I know the body would not like that needs time to recover

That's terrific, Kelley! I think you are reaping the reward of long term strength training and watching your diet. The numbers often stay the same but the proportions change due to more lean tissue. You ate more and lost weight, isn't that great! I have been going heavy to build more mass and I know you can't stint on the calories to do that, and I can now walk out of my size 8's. I wasn't trying to get smaller, rather to get bulkier but that muscle takes up less space and that's great since I need to be lean or carry a magnifying glass because these babies refuse to bulk! I have to be content with definition for now. ;)LOL!

Thanks Bobbi and that's great about walking out of your size 8s. I'm definitely going to stick with Slow & Heavy for another week or two and then I'm moving on to either Pure Strength or the Pyramids. I'll decide when I get there.

This as nothing to do with the workout BUT isn't it GREAT when you can wear a pair of jeans that you haven't wore in a while! I tried on a pair of jeans yesterday that I haven't wore in almost a year and I didn't have "stuff" falling out over the sides:) They are stretchy jeans so they are tight anyway but I think I fit better into them then I did when I thought I fit into them before.
Lori:)

I had to let everyone know that I'm wearing the pants again today and they fit even better than last week. I'm so excited. I measured again and this time the tape measure did show a 1/2 inch decrease in the hips. YAY!!! And my bra that I'm wearing today is almost too big. I have it on the tightest hooks. Another YAY!!!
