I need advice on Dogs

BAWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That sounds like a great idea :p

I have 5 dogs which makes traveling a wee bit difficult. I usually tak 2 of them and get a pet sitter/dog walker for the other 3. It is not that expensive.

Huskies are wonderful dogs but they have a tendancy to want to rule the rooste. They can be really stubborn and may not be the best choice for a first time dog owner. However, there is always the exception and if you take this really seriously and read up on dog ownership and training (I know he is a little controversial but I like Cesar Millan) and take your new dog to obedience classes right away, it may turn out well.

I used to have a German Shepherd and a Labrador, whereas they are great dogs, nothing compares to my Australian Shepherds. They are high energy but usually easy to train, they will need a lot of exercise and are the quintessential velcro dog. I am biased of course, I would never get another breed than my Mini Aussies  Mine are my running buddies, I can't imagine going running without them, we are going anywhere from 2 to 12 miles these days.

Keep us posted in what you decide.

"Velcro dogs" Love it!!! My dearly departed Spyro was an Australian Cattle Dog and Terrier mix. Velcro Dog would have described him perfectly. Always attached to me. Never bothered me until I had knee surgery and he was just the right height to bang his hard head on my knee as I hobbled along with him attached by invisble velcro.

Done thread stealing....sorry

Nan

Carola how funny my first thought were the 3 dogs you mentioned. German Shepherd (my dad had one and loved him) Labrador, and an Australian Shepherd. These just seem like great family companions. The only reason I zoned in on Sara (husky) was because my brother had one, . . .his name was Sabre and he was the sweetest thing. So great with my kids and he would sing. He loved to sing the E-I-E-I-O in old mc donald had a farm. My kids miss him so much and Sara reminded us of him. I am so greatful of all the information on here. I didn't realize some of the things about huskies, like the hip problems poor Sabre had a hip problem and that they will try to escape from your back yard to hunt, . . .that makes sense when you think that they are kinda like wolves. I will keep you all posted. I am definitely going to take my time and do my research. Thanks everyone!

Lol, I've actually had kids through my house before as a "field trip". ;) My pythons are in a "rack" system. They live in burrows in the wild, so this mimics their natural environment. The rack has drawers that you pull out and that is their "enclosure". I have mostly adults and a few juvies that I hatched out last year. The enclosures are pretty large and I have an entire room in the basement dedicated to them and my beardies. Tarantulas are probably the only pet I have not had!

This is Sydney. Hopefully, it's not too huge of a picture.

Amber my kids would have a field day at your house. It would be better than going to the pet store!!! I've always wanted a bearded dragon and a ball python. How do you house the python? Are they adult sized? The only pet I have right now are 2 adult sized tarantulas. My brother actually had a huskie but during his divorce his ex wife took the dog and he's been pretty broken up about it. He said that they do need daily walks but are other wise pretty easy as long as you train them when they are young. Working from home may sound ideal but it gets lonely and I would love the company.

Sydney is gorgeous!! My DH and I were just admiring some very large bearded dragons in the pet store today! :)

LOL - just visited DS yesterday and he has 4 baby bearded dragons right now with 16 eggs currently incubating.

They look like little lizards when they are small - so different than the adult version with the majestic "spikes".

Beautiful reptile Liann - gorgeous coloring !
