I LOVE S&H

L Sass

Cathlete
I got this on the road trip and started my own 6-8 week rotation using 2 days of circiut and one day of S&H. I'll do S&H for 3-4 weeks and then go back to GS but keep the circuit for fat loss. I just had to say how much I love S&H. After 2 times through I'm seeing better biceps and triceps than I ever knew were there (tho I think some fat loss from the circuits is helping with definition). Why didn't I try these long ago?

Lorrie

thats is great! since i been doing GS i see a great deal of definition everywhere. i just have a hard time on my eating.

God bless!

Hey Lorrie

:) When I saw the topic of this message, I thought you meant "Shipping & Handling." I was thinking how can there be someone who likes shipping & handling, this is what I hate the most when shopping online!

Haha... I am new to cathe's workout/ DVD, so I am not yet familiar with all the titles of her workouts.

still learning!

Lorrie:

I'm with you on this one. I owned S&H for 6 moths before trying them out. This was a couple of years ago. I remember thinking at the time "wow! Why was I ever afraid of this series?"

S&H is my absolute fave Cathe weight training of all time. It is the only series where I see gains in terms of muscle mass, strength and definition in just a few short weeks. No other workout or series achieves this much for me. I feel strong when I use it, I rapidly increase the amount I can lift, I develop a great looking upper body and I feel more beautiful. What's not to like?

In short, you couldn't pay me enough to prize my hands off the S&H series: the perfect solution for ectomorphs and hard gainers everywhere!

Clare

Hi Clare. How long do you use this routine? As I said I'm plugging it into a new circuit approach for only 3-4 weeks then I'll go back to GS. Cathe says in her intro not to go any longer than that - is that what you do too?

Lorrie

No, I do my own thing.

About a year ago, someone asked Cathe if it was OK to stay with S&H for longer than her recommended 3 weeks and she said yes, if you are still seeing results.

I recently did a 6-7 week stint of S&H and I saw gains consistently, especially towards the end where I started really upping weights on back and chest.

I agree with Cathe and my personal experience bears it out: stick with it as long as you like and as long as you see results. Once you start to plateau, mix it up with the GS series.

Clare

Sure Angela, though I have to tell you it's not a carved in stone rotation because those never work for me. I find that on some days I may have a real aversion, for whatever reason, to doing what I'm supposed to be doing. So I make up my own. I've geered this program for the following issues:

1. I want to lose about 10 more pounds. NOTE** my major focus has to be on food, but calorie burners are on my prioity list too.

2. On the road trip I was talking with Cathe and she indicated that generally you need to stick with a given approach for about 6-8 weeks to be able to judge your body's results. Given that time frame she advised that it take you as long as a year, or more, to really determine what will work for you.

3. Given that, when I came back I inventoried what I have and put this together.

For circuit workouts I have:

Circuit max
Boot Camp
High Step Training advanced
Step Jump and Pump
Cardio & Weights
The Viper (from terminator)
High Step Challenge

Other cardio Equipment / workouts I have:

Elliptical cross trainer
treadmill
Kick, punch and crunch
kick max
cardio kicks
step blast
Imax 1, 2 and 3
Low Max
(waiting for rhythmic step and MIC)

Weight training workouts I have are:

PUB / PLB
All the gym styles
S&H
*Also have total body weight training like MM, SS,and ME, but not using those for this)

So here's what I'm doing.

Day 1: circuit w/o and additional cardio, either elliptical or treadmill for 45-60 minutes

Day 2: circuit w/o and additional cardio, either elliptical or treadmill for 45-60 minutes (whichever I didn't do on Day 1)

Day 3: S&H segment followed by a Cathe cardio w/o

Day 4: see day 1

Day 5: see day 2

Day 6: see day 3, alternating through the S&H workouts

Day 7: rest (which is REALLY hard for me to do)
** sometimes if I don't feel as though I've worked my core I'll throw in a core max segment)

I'll do this for 3-4 weeks and then I'll switch to the GS muscle workouts in place of my S&H ones.

I'm still trying this to see where it will get me after that 6-8 week period. But I think you really have to cue into your body and your goals to know what you want to do. That's what I've come up with. Thanks for asking.

Lorrie

Lorrie:

this rotation only completes two of the three S&H workouts in a given week. Is this because you omit S&H legs?

It looks like an awful lot of cardio to me, I mean a circuit w/o AND additional 45 mins cardio?!!!!

I wouldn't have the interest to keep going with the cardio after the circuit w/o, boredom would set in, and tiredness would rapidly creep up on me throughout the week, leading me to start blowing off workouts due to fatigue. Keep an eye on your energy levels week to week while following this schedule.

Also, if you are trying to gain muscle mass, this much cardio works against that goal. Just ssomething to bear in mind.

Clare

No Clare, I just keep cycling through the S&H series. That's why I'll do it for probably 4 weeks instead of the 3 Cathe suggested in her intro (and why I asked how long you did it.)

It is an awful lot of cardio - that's because I think my muscles are where they're going to be, unless I really want to increase mass and go heavy. But FOR ME, right now I need to see if shaving off fat will give me increased definition - and I have to think it will.

That's why I have to keep my focus in place and keep thinking - it's only 6-8 weeks. AND, I am already seeing an impact (been at it 2 weeks)

Again, I think everyone has to know their own body and fitness goal - I don't think one routine can possibly suit everyone. That's why I took some time and identified where I want to be. I put this together - for me - to see if it will work. And as I also said, my primary focus is on food. I've discovered from Sarah (aka IMA) and fitday that I'm taking in way too many calories.

Lorrie

Thansk for answering Lorrie. I totally understand this is an individual thing and I'm asking people for ideas so I have a lot of info. to draw on and a lot of ideas to eventually try. I'm assuming you go really light with the weights on circuit training days? I would like to know how this worked for you and what your thoughts are after completing this for 6 to 8 weeks. And yes, food is the key...I recognize this and on my good days I track with fit day and sometimes on my bad days(too many right now). Anyway, thanks for sharing what you are doing. I appreciate it. Have a great weekend!
Angela:)

I finally swapped my backordered item of Rhythmic Step for this series. I think it will fit in nicely with my current DVD's and I can't wait to get it and work it into my rotation.
