I lost 5 Pounds...

...in 2 weeks and for the life of me I don't know how I did it. I got on the scale this morning expecting it to read high because I haven't been logging calories and I just took an active rest week (more rest than activity, mind you ;)). Maybe it was the rotations I'd been doing (thanks FitnessFreakk!!!), maybe it was that week of rest, maybe it was eating what I wanted when I wanted it and not giving a poop about how many calories I ate for the day?? Grrrr I wish I knew what it was; I still have 15 pounds to go!! It's taken forever to bust through this plateau and I need to keep going.

It was the work work work then a rest week. Your body needed a chance to relax. This is crucial because then you have a chance to stop pumping out as much stress hormones (a la my other post this morning about cortisol, insulin and testosterone being buddies and often being seen with each other at the fat deposits.) Also, just eating when and what we want reduces our sense of stress too. If you aren't stressed while you eat it makes a difference. If you are all keyed up about your meals you are making stress hormones while you eat and then your body has no choice but to start storing it (or so I've heard on IOWL.)

Anywho, I would suggest two - three weeks of a tough rotation and be ultra good with your eats then a week of low intensity workouts and just eating what you want. A sort of three week cycle. Try that and let us know if it works.

Congratulations!

What Fitness Freak rotations have you been using? I am currently using one week from each of the get ready for summer rotations but using the generic version and choosing what dvds I want to use. I really like this because it gives me structure and variety at the same time. I'm glad we have her as an asset here on this forum.

Congratulations Melissa!

What a great feeling that must be! I agree with RapidBreath. Keep shocking your body and those last pounds will go!

Big congratulations!!! That is super- especially when it is a surprise!! I am going to be more diligent with following the three on, one off, that sounds quite reasonable!!

Again, great job!!

RapidBreath, I totally agree with everything you posted! I think it's a combo of the rest week & the rotation; I had been working myself to the bone when I made my own rotations and I was always exhausted. I think I pushed myself way too hard and my body was retaliating by hanging onto calories and hence putting on weight. I promised myself that when I started FF's rotation, I would only do what was scheduled for that day and nothing more (unless it was a stretch or a walk), and I really think that worked. Also, with the rest week, I caught up on so much needed sleep, reading, etc and now I'm ready to face this month's rotation head-on!

Jenn, I just finished FF's 1st "Get Ready for Summer" rotation. I'm going to do her 2nd one starting tomorrow .

I also don't feel as edgy when I don't count calories as I do when I'm trying to stick to a calorie "budget." Counting calories DOES stress me out. A lot of times, I also felt myself eating when I was not hungry because I had to hit a certain number. OR I would be so hungry even after going over my calories "allowed" for the day, so I wouldn't care and just eat whatever junk I could get my hands on. It was not a fun or healthy way to live.
