I kissed a girl....

I like the song, but I think it's going to be one-hit-wonder.

I had no idea what you meant by that, Shelley. :) I'm a little disturbed by the fact that I've yet to hear it yet it seems everyone's preteen DD is aware of it. I shudder to think what our culture's going to be like by the time I'm having kids.

i liked the first one even though it was kind of annoying i think that is what made it cool. plus it was more upbeat and kidding around type. i just heard the last bit of the new song and i didn't care for it. it seemed studio made and that she would sound like s**t live but i could be wrong.

as shelley says great music is out there for those that can find! i was surprised when i first saw that shelly was a TOOL fan!!! WOO-HOO!!! now there is some artistry for ya.

<And what music exec heard it and didn't ask that him/herself...>
You're kidding right...I think music execs have ruined music as we know it. ;)

Count me is a another one who thought this was going to be a *vastly* different thread!!! I thought the boards had gone all Jerry Springer! :D

Aw, come on, guys. It's just a silly song with a good beat. It's not "the death of music". Ya know, a lot of people said that about Elvis...

And it's hardly the decline of culture and the nation's youth that someone's singing about kissing a girl.

I, for one, think that as long as a song appeals to someone out there, it's "good music".

Oh no you di'nt! *snap head swivel, throws chair* :D

I sure didn't say it was the death of music. I think some music is better than no music at all. I just have to listen to it about 6 times a day (no exaggeration) on my co-worker's radio and am just about SICK TO DEATH of it. It's truly one of those summer hits.

Awww poor Allie, having "different" tase in music! :p Listen, if it makes you feel any better, a few days ago I was telling a friend how excited I was that I finally got the soundtrack from Saturday Night Fever on my mp3 player, & he told me my taste in music sucked. Yeah, his exact word was "sucked."

I'm with you--variety is the spice of life!

Ms. Shelley, stop being so cranky & play some Nine Inch Nails to make yourself feel better! ;-)

Well, that I have to agree with you on. The massive over-playing of songs on the radio stations lately is seriously making me borderline homicidal. What's the deal? They play this song alllllllllll the time. I'm still at the point where when I hear it come on I'm all giddy and I'm like *insert valley girl voice here* "OH MY GAWD, I, like, totally LOVE this song!!!!"

But that never lasts long with me. I have music ADD. Give it a few more weeks and I'll be just as annoyed as you are, Shell. ;)

Oh, I don't think this song's going to do us in or anything, and personally I don't find anything wrong with a song about kissing a girl. No different than songs about kissing anything else. It just freaks me out a little how 8 year olds are listening to the Pussycat Dolls these days. It's a burlesque act! The difference in the level of overt sexuality displayed by teenyboppers between just a decade ago and now is huge, I think. So ten years from now, I'm thinking, are they going to be wearing anything?

On another note, I find it amusing to picture what the retirement home soirées are going to be like in 60 years. Grandma Tiffany and Grandpa Zack grinding away to "Oops I Did It Again"...

I make no apologies for thinking the airwaves are clogged with so-so mediocrity they call "music" these days. I suppose a little "junk food" is okay in every musical diet. ;)

I wish some guy with a really deep gravelly voice would come out with the male version: "I kissed a Dude and I liked It" and had him up on stage acting all flirty and sexy with the microphone like Kate Perry did on So You Think You Can Dance. They say this song is being requested mostly by middle aged men. My 13 yo thinks I'm a total prude cause I switch the station when it comes on. Maybe the fact that two of her good friends made the announcement at lunch this year that they've decided to be bisexual, at 13.

Yeah, I'm definitely a prude.

I had to LOL at this thread because just the other day my co-worker said he hates this song because the radio plays it ALL the time. He was like "who cares if you kissed a girl." I agree, it's been overkill on the radio where I'm at.

Here's the lyrics to the song for those that don't know anything about it:

This was never the way I planned
Not my intention
I got so brave, drink in hand
Lost my discretion
It's not what, I'm used to
Just wanna try you on
I'm curious for you
Caught my attention

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chap stick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

No, I don't even know your name
It doesn't matter
You're my experimental game
Just human nature
It's not what, good girls do
Not how they should behave
My head gets so confused
Hard to obey

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chap stick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

Us girls we are so magical
Soft skin, red lips, so kissable
Hard to resist so touchable
Too good to deny it
Ain't no big deal, it's innocent

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chap stick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

*actually* (ahem).. the original song of the same title (different lyrics though) was by Jill Sobule.. back in 1995.. and it was controversial "back then" ;)

That was a good song. It was made to be funny, and sort of tongue in cheeck. It was offensive as being bisexual wasn't "in" back then and not so out in the open and glamorized as today. Can you imagine Lindsay Lohan with her gf in 1995.....

Anyhoo, Sobule also did a great song called Supermodel. I'm not gonna eat today, I'm not gonna eat tomorrow, cause I'm wanna be a supermodel! Check it out if you can, it's pretty funny.

I'll admit....I love the song. But I don't listen to the radio everyday.
Is this a bad time to bring up some Buck Cherry songs?
