I just wanted to say

RE: I have something to say.

Don't worry about it Cathe. I think it's only a very few (but very verbal) few in the bible belt that would even notice something like that. You are not a sinner for saying it, you will not go to hell, be comdemned or fall in with the wrong crowd as some televangelists would have you beleive. One doesn't have to be a Christian to be ethical, moral, and know what is right, and, quite frankly, from what I see of those who push their religions on everyone else, they seem to be the biggest liars of all. Actually, in the global population, Christians amount for less that 3% of people.Aethiests can be humane, and know decency is in action, not words. Independent thought is our birthright, so don't hush us in the name of the Lord.

I just had to dig this one up again!!

Hi All!
I started a thread at the VF Forum today and Laura (thank you!) brought this thread to my attention.

I just wanted to also publicly thank Cathe for her devoted efforts to provide the BEST home workouts on video and I give her 2 THUMBS UP for taking this concern into consideration! To be honest, I don't feel the need to exchange the 2 videos I've heard this phrase. I am fully aware that we all have choices as to what videos we exercise to and why and I'm glad we do...I also feel that I could not hold Cathe accountable for the beliefs I uphold, nor any of the other instructors who are unaware of this particular concern. I know and feel that they are not intentionally trying to offend, that phrase has unfortunately been a "staple" in our modern vocabulary. If I am uncomfortable with a video for any reason, language, intensity, style, background, "whooping", whatever...I just exchange for another. Usually, it's SUCH a HUGE sacrifice for me because I REALLY enjoy the workouts and the instructors.

My hat's off to you Cathe for your fabulous workouts and your dedication to be a strong fitness role model for all enthusiasts (and for me a sister instructor too!).

Take Care everyone & stay fit!!
Myra :D

RE: I just had to dig this one up again!!

Hi Myra! You'll be happy to know that (to the best of my recollection) there is no reason for you to exchange these new tapes.

Thanks Cathe!

I've got to say that this post has really shown some true colors, some bright, some not so bright. Some people just seem to live to attack others. If people love free speech so much, I suggest they allow others, who happen to have a different opinion, to use it freely. It really bothers me when anybody acts like free speech is only for them and those who agree with them. All to say that there's a big difference in offering your opinion and attacking others for offering theirs!

I'm a Christian (and lovin' it) and I've noticed Cathe's use of that phrase while doing the videos. I can't say it absolutely doesn't bother me at all but I understand that it has indeed become a casual expression in this society. I wonder if Kathy Smith has gotten this much flack for her use of it in Fat Burning Breakthrough.

When I workout, it's in thanksgiving and stewardship of my health, an unspeakably wonderful gift that nobody (who has ever been blessed with it) should ever take for granted! Sometimes I'll even be praying and thanking God while I'm doing the videos that I'm even capable of working out, and working out with Cathe no less! I've gotten into the habit, when Cathe uses that expression, of letting it remind me to thank God for what I'm able to do, and I have a feeling Cathe would approve of that.

I really see "using the Lord's name in vain" as more like blatant abuse of it along with other explicatives which are necessarily offensive or vulgar by their very nature. Lots of people do use His name as a curse (and yes, that is very offensive to me), but as much as I love being a Christian and trying to follow His ways, I just can't get all worked up over the casual slip which only meant to say "wow!". You know?

Thanks Cathe, for being attentive to this issue (not that I'm saying it should necessarily be an issue). I think you've shown a lot of class and respect through your posts and for intentionally avoiding the expression on the upcoming videos. I really appreciate your sensitivity to this, it makes me even more enthusiastic about you being my fitness hero!

LAST EDITED ON Jun-25-01 AT 05:48PM (Est)[p]Hi all,

This will probably offend someone, I don't mean it to.

This post is over 6 months old.
I just wonder, why we are bringing this post up again? I realize you are free to do what you wish, but most of us who participated in this post put it behind us and accepted each other for are differences. I think bringing it up just causes more controversy. People have been debating issues related to christianity for years.

I found lemonfresh's response very upsetting, but decided that debating religious beliefs on this site is not what this site is intended for.

We are here together on this site, no matter what are differences, to celebrate exercise and health. I am glad to have this site to discuss exercise with so many wonderful people. Cathe is a blessing to all of us.

Excellent, Sue47!

Sue- I am glad you brought this up (though it was last year). I noticed it when I was first doing Circuit Max and was bothered by it. Thank you for pointing it out to Cathe. It's too bad camille and lemonfresh had to be so rude. I think there was no need for you to apologize! You are right and justified to make a suggestion. Why not? It is simply a request - we could all do without the expression being used.

Could anyone tell me what other video has the word?

RE: Excellent, Sue47!

PLEASE!! let's not let what has happened in the past at the Firm forum happen here. I love this place for not being out of control and for concentrating on workouts/health issues/encouragement!! That is why Cathe's site is the only one I can handle these days. Blessings, Lori :0)

RE: Excellent, Sue47!

Politics and religion are subjects best left alone.

Bravo honeybunch.

You're right on the money. Sue47 should have addressed her concern to Step-n-Motion directly not posted it to the forum.

Separation of church and state! Let's amend that to separation of church and exercise forums!

RE: Bravo honeybunch.

I agree--let's just drop this thing. Cathe has taken the request to heart, so why do does this have to be brought up again? It seems like the ones who objected to her using the expressions are the ones who can't leave it alone. Please, enough already!
