I just ordered a Vitamix

Cool! Where did you order it from? I keep going back and forth about getting one of these and just never manage to do it. It looks like a pretty versatile machine.

I ordered it on Ebay from the Vitamix Co. Store. It is a refurbished model #5200. Was around $400.

I have a Bosch mixer and blender (700 watts) and it pulverizes everything...you will love the vitamix!

I have had my Vitamix for 12 years. I use it several times per week and so do my 3 teen boys. It's the best. You won't regret your purchase ;)

I LOOOOOVE mine. Had it for years. Keeps on ticking. Makes fantastic pulverized smoothies. Mine this morning was kale, parsley, zucchini, whole peeled lemon, banana, some apple slices, slice of dried pineapple, a few frozen wild blueberries and some hemp. Yummy!

You probably already know - but be sure to have liquid in the blender. It doesn't do dry as well with the wet blade. For all of the above I just used 1c of water. I'm also a big fan of lemon juice in my green smoothies. Helps cut the 'green' taste for me.

ENJOY :D

PS It's also great for making soups.

Oh, I'm jealous! I"m sure you will love it. They were demo-ing these at Costco today and they were on sale for $394.

You'll love it! Not that you need to spend more money.....but I also purchased the optional smaller container (32 ounce) and use that a lot for homemade salad dressings (I always use nuts and seeds as a base instead of oil). I found the smaller container, in general, easier to handle and clean. (I tend to use it the most.)

I should also mention that I've had my Vitamix for quite a while (years), but only used the dry blade container once. (I'm not sure if you purchased it as an extra, but I thought I would mention it.) I always thought I would grind my own grains for bread, but found it too much of a pain. I do make bread from scratch from time to time, I just found I don't ever want to use it. I guess I figure making the bread took enough time...lol. I have to admit it was probably a wasteful extra purchase on my part. Anyway....

Enjoy your blender! I'm sure you'll get plenty of use out if....I have (well, except for the dry blade container ;))

PS. Besides wonderful green smoothies......blended pineapple and carrots over crushed ice can also be quite delicious. ;)

I too just took the plunge and ordered a refurbished Vitmix 5200 from eBay. I've gone through 5 blenders in the past 3 years; all of that money adds up to the cost of a Vitamix.

I started exploring raw foods eating in Dec/January, and loved it. I got alot of great results from changing my eating regimen to this method. However, I had a couple of traumatic events in February and fell off the raw foods bandwagon. However, things have now stabilized, and I'm getting myself back on track. I'm so excited to get the Vitamix; it will help greatly with green smoothies and getting back into a more raw diet (my goal is 50-75% raw). I also have a Champion juicer, which I really like, as well as several raw foods books.

Thanks for the encouragement and Vitamix/raw food stories on this forum. I know that I won't regret this purchase, even though it put a dent in my pocketbook!

Here's to health!!

You will love your vitamix!! I sure love mine!!!! We love to make fruit ice cream with it. In the 2 years that I have had my vitamix, I have never used my dry blade.

Luvmyabs,

I'm so glad to see your input! I was wondering about the wet blade vs. dry blade. I just ordered as-is with the wet blade and figured if I found that I needed the dry blade later, I can order it then. I'll probably have my hands full with the wet blade anyways.

Thanks,

You'll love the Green smoothie thing!

I own a Blendtec and love, love, LOVE it! I have 32oz. of green smoothie a day and have lost 15 pounds the past 6 weeks. I add two small meals besides and am loving the way I feel. Good luck with your Green smoothies! dmd

That was where I got mine, it is a great price, I'm very happy with my purchase, I've had it for over a year now. I'm not very creative with mine, I use it at least once a day though for whey shakes and smoothies.

Care to share some recipes? (I've got to put my Vitamix to work...I've had it for a while, but haven't used it much).

Have you checked out the Vitamix website? They have a ton of recipes there. I love the lower cal potato/bacon soup (don't remember the recipe name exactly but the soup was amazing and I used leftovers to make it.)

I bought it for the same reason - raw food diet. Green smoothies seem to be an huge part of it. My Goodr4u dehydrator just arrived also.

Have you ever checked out Alissa Cohen's site?? www.rawfoodtalk.com?

Another person who is into the health food eating is Gillian McKeith. She advocates cooked food and smoothies. Kind of like Natalia Rose.

I had a burger yesterday early afternoon and felt like sleeping the rest of the day. I am convinced my body at least can't take the heavy proteins.

We shall see . . .

Can you make your own nut butters with it? That just might push me over the edge...

Check out the website, I think I saw something that you can, I watched a demo where they ground up an avocado pit, they said there has been research that the pits are very good for you.

ETA: Just went to www.vitamix.com, and yes they have a video demo for nut butters.
