I *heart* Dr. Fuhrman

Ok, I'm almost finished with my sixth week of the Eat to Live plan and I'm happy to say that it worked wonderfully for me! I lost about 14 lbs. (I'm a little weird about weighing myself and didn't do it until week 2, so I'm guessing at what I lost the first week). ETL a great great weight loss plan and Dr. Fuhrman is a genius. Maybe the diet is not that exciting, maybe not everyone can eat 84 huge salads in six weeks }( , but it has been great for me. I initially lost some weight switching from a vegetarian to a vegan diet, but then discovered vegan convenience and junk food and the weight loss stopped. I have tried reducing calories in the past but found that I was too hungry to make any significant reduction and it was so discourageing. I feel like I finally know the secret to dramatically cutting my calorie intake while feeling wonderful! I have at the same time made huge cardio and strength improvements. Today I did Cardio Fusion on the 8" step, and this would have been impossible for me before.

I plan to continue the diet until I have lost all my excess weight (I think another 30-40 lbs). I really cannot put into words how good it feels to finally find something that works for me. Anyone who wants to lose weight and feel good in the process should check out ETL.

I got off the weight loss train for a while this summer, but have started back just this week.. So I have about 50 pounds to lose. I am reading ETL now, It does make since. Since I have been eating this way, I am not hungry, dont crave as much of the Halloween candy (that I have been threatening to throw away because of my candy addiction).. I have more energy this week, I normally take naps in the afternoon along with my toddler, but this week I don't have the need for them. I am always full. My stomach does not growl. I would like to eventually let my kids decide if they would like to eat this way, but I won't force them or my husband to eat this way. Since this is new to me, I do eat lots of fruit, but I have a HUGE salad with my beans at dinner.. I don't want salad during the day..in my opinion, this is very healthy, but I think I said in my other post, that I always thought Vegetarians and Vegans were nuts, but the more I am informed, the more I don't care for meat. WE will see how my weight loss goes. :)

Carole,

thank you... My only question was.. can you put on a noticable amount of muscle on this was of eating.. But your picture gave me the answer!!! Did your body respond more to working out once you changed your diet?

luvmylabs....I have found even more so as I age, that clean eating will ALWAYS get you the results you want...But I did get the best results at 45 than I had ever had after going vegan/vegetarian...:)

Hi Carole. I'm glad you saw this thread. I really have you, and other ETL fans on the forum, to thank for introducing me to this wonderful diet. You are such an awesome example of the benefits of being vegan. Thanks for being my inspiration. By the way, have you modified the diet a lot since your initial weight loss? Do you still eat the huge salads for lunch and dinner (I'm actually eating mine right now!)
Amy

Pixie: Congrats on your weightloss! That is wonderful!

Carole: I noticed that you also did a few rounds of Power 90X.

Did you find your energy low while implementing ETL? I'm really curious about this way of eating.

I'm trying to follow the nutrition plan from P90X and it's A LOT of calories.

Thanks!

Amy,

you are so right in this post. I had no idea that Carole was an ETL lover. This gives me hope that I can look like her one day!!:D I think it was Kathryn that brought up the Eat to Live book in one of her post..Both have been here at the forums for a long while and have so much knowledge to share.

Thanks all for the encouraging words pats on the back. Luvmylabs, I wish you all the best with your weight loss. Losing weight has been so hard and frustrating for me in the past. It just doesn't come easily for me, and I am a very motivated person. I was a vegetarian for about 13 years and have been vegan for 3 years. But I didn't really know how to use the diet to its greatest advantage, and I'm so happy that I've been introduced to ETL because it has taught me so much. I hope that your experience with ETL is as positive as mine has been. As you've noticed, there's a fair number of veg folk on the forums that are always willing to help.

Me too! I love DrF....I totally live the ETL way of living although I never had to loose weight. For me, it is the healthiest way to eat. Cathe works on the outside and Dr Fuhrman on the inside. My LDL is now 80 from a high of 122. Yay! The dear doctor knows what he is talking about.:)

I should mention the added benefits such as more hair and wonderful skin.....even though they are just side effects of a good diet.

Three cheers,

Amy...I don't eat as many salads for lunch as I initially did. I get lazy...but I have one every night with my dinner. I am so glad this is working for you as I truly believe it is the healthiest way to eat for your body.

luvmylabs..thank you...:)

press182...yes, when I started ETL I also started my 1st P90X rotation. As for the weightlifting I was never weak...but I am also a runner and the 1st few weeks when I went on my long sunday runs I did feel week. I used a sports gel that had protein until I felt better. I no longer use that gel..I also followed my eating on fitday.com to make sure I was getting all the things my body needed. I have times when I backslide and cheat due to stress, but I stick with mostly vegan/rarely vegetarian, if that makes any sense...:)

Robin..that is awesome about your LDL results!!!

Ok Amy, I finally ordered the book over amazon. It was $11 total and I think that's a great price. I've been trying to modify my diet and eat more salads anyway so maybe following this more closely might not be too hard.

I just wanted to add that DH's total cholesterol went down 60(!!!) points a year after switching to a vegan diet.

Carolyn

PS Hi Carole!!:) :)

I read the book about 6 months ago and tried working it in for a couple of weeks.... I just didnt have the time to cook differently for DH (he'd never go for this!- He's 100% Texan)... My question for all you ETL Wise Ones.... Is there any benefit at all to eating the ETL way 2-4 days a week? I eat clean already but certainly not the ETL way.

Hi Carolyn! How have you been?...:)

Traci, I would think eating the ETL way for 2-4 days would be a benefit. Better than not doing it at all...:)...most of the info I have read was either about complete vegan/vegetarian diet as compared to complete animal protein ones....HTH...

>I've been ok...moved to Germany so I'm finding it quite a challenge to find vegan food here. It's probably for the best anyway being that I should be eating fresh fruits and veggies more often than Mexican food. But I do miss my Mexican food!!

Thanks Carole! I will schedule the days in just like I do exercise and see how I manage... who knows, in a few months I may be as healthy as you! And in a few YEARS maybe I'll have muscles like yours as well!:)

Carolyn...I thought it was Germany you moved too. Sorry you have trouble getting the Vegan food. I have trouble with some things and order stuff online. Sometimes wish I lived in a bigger city!! I have to drive 2 hours for a Vegan restaurant...and about mexican food....LOVE IT!!!!

Traci...thank you for your kind words...:)

Traci, I agree that doing ETL a few times a week is beneficial. This is not like a low carb diet where either your on it and losing weight or off it and gaining it all back. Good luck!

Sorry, mini-hijack: Carolyn (Carol to me!), is your vonage working today? And did you ever get your new workouts? and if so, what workouts have you done and how much do you love them? Maybe you should just call me! ;-)
