I Have To Take My Own Advice!

Aquajock

Cathlete
How sad is that?

After years of prating to people to "listen to your body", and to pay attention to proper footgear, AND to give themselves adequate recovery time, what do I do but:

1. Ignore soreness in my left foot because my shoes are wearing down;

2. Continue to LET the shoes wear down because I want to wait until the next month's billing cycle on my credit card to roll over before I buy new ones; and

3. After d*mn near crippling myself in two successive aqua classes, trying to do my traditional Hi/Lo H*ll cardio routine last Sunday and feeling like my foot is going to break off.

Have been hobbling around like Frodo for the past five days, and with the entire Hard Core series grinning at me, I'm going to have to postpone my new rotation for at least three weeks.

Folks - I hate it when I learn I'm as vulnerable to injury - and bad judgment - as anybody else.

Booger.

Oh A-Jock, I was beginning to think you were invincible. I am glad you are just a mere mortal, like me. I give fabulous "listen to your body" advice to others and don't often take it myself. I have had many an overuse injury as a result. Hang in there, sister.

"hobbling around like Frodo" Ha! You are too funny! Well, looks like a few pool workouts are in order for AJ! Hang in there, take care of yourself and get NEW shoes. We all are gulity of the same "gotta keep at it til we drop" at times. Heal well! HUGS!

Wow, A-Jock... I've had this mental picture of you completing IMAX 3 with nary a sweat or twinge of discomfort, and envying you for it, wishing I had YOUR knees and joints, as I figured out ways to modify the darn thing...

Check this out. I found this one day:

Cheapest ones I've found yet. Still deciding on getting them. Because I just got a rebounder and a bunch of yoga DVD's and my credit card is starting to feel the ravages of overuse, too.:)

Oh my! You are in a sad state of affairs! :) :) Well your post reminded me that I am also in need of a new pair of shoes so I think I'll go get some! :)

OK AJ don't beat your self up, that is what we are here for. Turn around and take 29 lashes with a wet noodle!

Now seriously, rest up, get that foot checked out, and keep us informed on the healing progress. We've got to keep the 'Hard Core attitude' going ! I'm waiting for ya to get back into this series. in the mean time I'll just keep jumping higher.... with new shoes.

A Jock,
I'm sorry to hear that you had this happen. I know sometimes we feel invincible or something. I am sure with your knowledge you will train smart and get back to those high jumps and the Hardcore.

Sorry about your injury. I've been holding off getting new sneaks too. For me, it's just getting the time to get out. I've been pushing myself lately as well...I should consider your advise.
Thanks for the reminder.

Oh, come on, A-Jock! What's a little foot injury? Don't be such a baby and get moving on some mish-moshes, new shoe or no.}(

(Rocky had me write this.)

What a timely post. I've had to change my workout routine since my female dog is in heat and now I have to go home at lunch. I can't do my nonimpact cardio at the gym and have been forcing the cardio at home...ignorning the painful PF that is screaming at me to please give it a rest....maybe I'll listen to :)

Annette, I hope it's getting better. All jokes aside, I never mess with my foot care. I don' want to be miserable if I don't have to be. Cathe's tough enough.

I here you A-jock. My left tendon has been killing me for about 2 months. I only take about a 2 day break and think that that will be long enough to heal me. I know that I should take a few weeks off as well. I just can't seem to do it though. I probably will be sorry very soon.

Please, fellow Frodos-In-Training:

Do as I say, not as I did (twice; I had a similar problem last summer with a similar genesis).

IGNORETH NOT THY JOINT AND SOFT TISSUE DISCOMFORTS! Address them while they're discomforts, rather than crippling injuries.

A-Jock,

I can *completely* sympathize with your situation. It sucks.

On February 8, I received my HardCore DVD's. :D
On February 9 & 10, we finally got the snowfall here in Vermont that we skiers were waiting for. :D :D
On February 11, I went skiing and tried to a take a too "agressive" (read "stupid") line through a tree trail and sprained my knee. ;( ;( ;( ;( ;(
Fortunately, it was only a sprain and nothing was torn.

I finally had snow AND my HardCore's and couldn't enjoy either. x( x( x(

Don't let yourself get too down. Keep focused on the stuff you can do safely and the three weeks will go by a lot faster.

Sending you extra-strength healing vibes for a super-speedy recovery.

Take care.
