Sort of! it's still pretty gross, but i boiled it in ckn broth like many have suggested and i covered it in sauted cabbage. i did it last night for dinner and i was especially hungry so i wolfed it down, but now that i am eating the left-overs for luch...ahem, well, it't not AS BAD as plain brown rice....but still no where near as good as white! i grew up in the south! what can i say?!!!

LOL Jes!! That is soo funny......I am the EXACT opposite....I could eat brown rice all day long, I think it is SOO much tastier than white rice.......The only time I eat white rice is when I go out for sushi (cooked of course). :7 :p

well i would put gravy on it! that would make it edible, but oh, wait.....can't have white flour!! what a crock!

I hate brown rice Jes. I have tried all kinds of ways to eat it, but I still don't like it. I just don't even bother eating it anymore. I would eat the white in a heartbeat over that nasty brown rice.

Aila:)

I'm with you, I LOVE whole grain products. I love whole grain bread, I don't know how people can stomach white bread. The last time I ate that stuff I had a heck of a time getting it off the roof of my mouth.x(

We eat brown rice regularly. I also love the energy I get for my cardio from my tuna on whole wheat or my half a chicken breast with brown rice. I will never go low carb, mod to high carb has worked great for me.:) For me, its all about total calories.

I love brown rice! A couple of things you could try to add flavor (I do this if I'm making it for company), instead of using water, I'll use chicken broth or petite cut/diced tomatoes.

I'm with you, Jes. I've tried to like brown rice a few times, but it just doesn't seem to absorb the water that well. So...I just don't eat rice at all anymore.

I love brown rice also but like it too much. Could eat it all day long.

Water chestnuts and cooked carrots give it cruch and flavor.

i no longer eat rice either (except in suishi). Its slightly ironic, i LOVE white rice, but grew up on brown, I have a friend who is filipino who gre up eating white rice every day of his life, and I introduced him to brown rice, and he will never go back. He loves the stuff. blech...x(

DeeDee,

YES! I love the energy it gives me as well......as a matter of fact I should be eating more brown rice. The only downside is that brown rice does take longer to cook but I think it's well worth it!! Oh when I think of all the empty useless calories in white rice...ughhhx( I really do not care for the taste of white rice anymore.

Jes, if you are going to use gravy why not make the gravy using whole wheat flour or any other whole grain flour?? I wonder if that would work as well?

Me, too! White bread (unless it's the homemade stuff, once in a while) is gross! It's so pasty and textureless. And to think that I used to hate whole grains, and loved white bread when I was a kid!

To the original poster: have you tried brown basmati or texmati rice? They are sweeter than regular brown rice, and quite tasty.

You know you can make brown rice in one of those rice cookers & it cooks perfectly every time. Just make sure it's 1 cup of rice to 2 & 1/2 cups of water or stock.

Sandy: that is a thought, but i am not that desperate yet! i am still trying to get this "whole wheat mentality" down. it's not going very wellx(

I love brown rice & all whole grains...I always have, even though my Grandaddy did NOT cook that way! I also love veggies, & have learned to tolerate fruit. Now if I could only learn to hate sweets!

I also love brown rice and whole grains now! I NEVER eat white rice or bread - not even on free day. Now that I am use to it I like it even more.

Sometimes I put a dash of LITE soy sauce on mine. That helps a lot.

I make this yummy recipe w/chicken, rice, snow peas, misc. veggies, chestnuts and pour it over brown rice. I saute the chicken and veggies in the wok w/green onions, fresh garlic etc. Sooooo yummy! the whole fam loves it!

Jes, try mixing in onions or salmon (my favorite). There's lots of ways to spice it up! I happen to love brown rice, but you can add so many things to it to make it more tasteful and interesting! :)

Jo

that does sound good Jo. i have a can of salmon now as a matter of fact! you are probably going to all be appaled at this statement, but i prefer canned tuna and salmon to fresh. the only fresh fish i can stand is mahi-mahi blacked to death!
