I hate being sick!!!

Just when things are really coming together with my workouts and nutrition!

I've got swollen glands, a sore throat, and I can feel the congestion collecting in my chest.

AAARGH!

I'm going to down a gallon of tea today and stay in bed. I'm even going to skip class.

This is such a drag considering I had such a great workout yesterday.

Any get suggestions on how to get better fast???

Hi Danna, sorry to hear your sick. I'm just getting over whatever I had ~ mainly conjestion and a nagging cough. But still, it kept me from working out for five days! When I get conjested, I take NAC(N-Acetyl Cysteine) to help clear it up fast. Get well soon.

I swear by Echinacea. As soon as i get an inkling of the sniffles or a sore throat, i start taking echinacea and usually am better in a day or two, and never get fully sick. But for those of you already sick, I would invest in some and start taking it, it will help you get better fast!

I swear by Echinacea too. I usually drink the tea. I think that stuff is pretty powerfull! Hope you feel better soon Danna!!

oh i have been sick too, just hit me like a ton of bricks on monday, the first class day of the semester. argh! I keep hearing about echinacea, but i'm worried about it interfering with meds i am already taking: birth control and zoloft. can anyone help out with this? :) -Tina
 
Jes, echinecea is a herb that is put into capsules. You can get it at a health food store, pharmacies or grocery stores.

Danna - I hope you get well soon!!! Zinc lozenges work good too!

I'm sick today too. I wanted to stay home from work, but realized I had too many things I had to do today. I blew of MIS and will be heading up to the bedroom soon to read for the rest of the night. Stupid cold!
 
When I feel the first signs of a cold, I drink a huge glass of orange juice and suck on one of those zinc lozenges with the echninacea and vitamin C - Halls Defense are the ones I take. If I do that, my symptoms usually clear up within an hour or two and I never come down with the cold.

If you've already gotten yourself well into the cold, though, these things won't do much to help ease the pain. You've just got to ride it out at that point. I would suggest chicken noodle soup, lots of water, hot tea (peppermint with ginger if you've got an upset stomach), and lots of rest.

Regarding the peppermint tea with ginger: If you have a queasy stomach, I HIGHLY recommend this! Brew yourself a hot cup of peppermint tea and put just a dash (it doesn't take much) of ground ginger spice into the tea. Sweeten with sugar or honey (AVOID THE ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS - THEY WILL AGGRAVATE YOUR STOMACH EVEN MORE), and sip. This works wonders to relieve nausea! It also stimulates the body to release fluid and that helps cleanse away the yucky stuff that's making you sick.
