Ah, don't worry. We've had Chris block and/or pull more than two threads in a day, let alone a week. LOL!
Sorry folks, but I'm with Trevor on this one. Let me tell you why. I'm 47 years old now. I've voted in every single election since I could. Yes, voting is a right, but with every "right" comes responsibilities. Think about it. Free speech is a right, but it carries responsibility. An ethical one at least. The right to bear arms carries responsibility. Voting carries responsibility in that if you cast a vote for frivolous reasons, you're doing yourself and your fellow citizens a disservice.
I don't vote along party lines strictly for the sake of doing so. I never have, and I most likely never will. My first Presidential election I voted for Carter because my mother did. That was the one and ONLY time I made an uninformed vote. I have voted for Dems and Republicans alike for Presidential and more local offices. The way I see it, my right to cast my vote shouldn't be done based on my emotions, any more than the other important decisions in my life should be based on them. If they were, I might make some very regrettable decisions. A vote to me is a DECISION. You are deciding who you want to run your country for the next four years. You are deciding whether or not you can fiscally handle an increase in your property taxes so your schools can have more money. You are deciding who you would want sitting on the bench if you were facing them in a court. These are life-changing decisions, people. These are not quizzes in grade school, where if you get them all wrong ... oh well. There's another one next week. Quite frankly, I don't understand why people don't place MORE importance on such decisions! They directly affect your life, and the lives of your family and friends. They can't be taken lightly.
I didn't read Trevor's original post on the now-locked thread as pompous or as saying "do it my way or don't do it all!" I read it as asking people to be mindful of the WHY they are voting the way they are, just as they should be mindful of the reasons behind any other very important decision in their lives. Maybe the reason some of you were offended by it is because it touched an emotion that make you uncomfortable? Often the posts on here that raise the hairs on the back of my neck are for that very reason, when I stop first and examine the "why". Just a thought ...
Well, that's my say. Whatever. It's only my opinion, after all.
