I find it a bit strange......

Trevor,

Please understand what I’m saying here. Months and months back, another thread got very heated and you left saying you wouldn’t be back. Now I’m glad you’re back and your posts are usually very good. But you do have a way with words!!! That can, it would appear, get peoples backs up?

Threads get locked because people start mouthing off (swearing, name calling etc…) and it is totally uncalled for.

Trevor,
I'd like to send you an email or a PM. Don't worry I'm not going to attack you since I agree with pretty much everything you're saying. You blocked your PM and email so I can't do anything. Will that be ok if I emailed you?

Trevor,

I did not address my last post to you. I don't care if you agree with me or not. You place way too much importance on yourself. Frankly, if you did agree with me I'd worry about MY viewpoint. I just wanted to express my opinion again in a more articulate fashion than I did yesterday.

My husband and I "cancelled" each others votes out for president. I know when I try to talk politics with him he gets way out of sorts, so I just don't do it anymore. Even this morning he was all crabby because you know who didn't win, and I told him it wasn't worth a martial fight because I wouldn't discuss it with him anymore. Some people just can't talk politics or religion calmly. In my opinion, I wish those people just wouldn't discuss either publicly or on the net. Some people, no matter what, just can't do it.

I did understand Trevors post and it got off kilter FAST.

On a tangent,
I find it interesting that 90% (NINETY) of DC residents voted Kerry. I live right outside DC, and anyone familiar with the District knows that its residents keep mighty well-informed of the issues.... Probably better informed than any place else in the nation. And 90% voted Kerrry. It's food for thought.

Trevor,

I have seen your posts over weeks and don't understand why you have to tell other people not to vote if they don't have enough information. Essentially you are implying that only your information and your conclusion is the right way to go.

First of all, I don't know what you think you are gaining by posting this, obviously this is going to result in a heated discussion, this is a fitness forum and I don't know why this kind of divissive issue would need to be discussed here.

Second, I think it is EVERY Americans right to vote! It does not matter what they base their opinion on. If a person doesn't like one candidate for whatever reason, it is not up to anyone of us to judge this person or question his/her right to vote. I think it is crucial that people make their opinion heard by exercising their right to vote. This is a democracy and it depends on people PARTICIPATING. There are countries where you are not allowed to make choices.

I don't think it is up to any one of us to question anyones motives to vote, they have a right to vote and they should vote. If I would go by what you are putting out as a standard and as a reason why you will vote for Bush, I respectfully submit that you are misinformed, so if I went by your standard, I would have to suggest that you shouldn't have voted. But that is not what I am suggesting, you should exercise your right to vote, this is a democracy and it cannot work if people are not participating. I am just wondering why it seems to alway be the Republicans who think people shouldn't vote!

I am not an American citizen and I am not allowed to vote. However, I have lived here for many years and my children are American citizens, so is my husband. It just amazes me that you can stand up in your classrooms and sing of the land of the free, if you question somebody's right to vote only based on YOUR perceiption of their information. Not everyone is as eloquent expressing their views (you should know, you just voted a guy into the White House who is less than eloquent - hmmm, I wonder why you are not questioning his right to be president).
I personally get my information from many sources, not only the American press (one of the advantages if you speak several languages), and even if I could vote I wouldn't vote for Mr. Bush. This has many reasons and all of them are based on his political views, his demeanor and the way he presents himself. I feel he is a dividing figure for Americans and the World and I am very concerned about the next 4 years. Having said that, I would never treat someone in a condenscending way and pretend that I am more informed than they are. We all have different view on life, different priorities, different perceiptions and different sources of information. What would make one superior over the other???

Only if you can let someone proclaim at the top of their lungs what you have spent a livetime trying to defeat, only if you let people come to their own conclusions based on whatever they want to base their conclusions on, only then can you stand up in your classrooms and sing of the land of the free!! From my perspective this it not the land of the free, this is the land of the divided!

Actually, I believe DC has a HUGE minority population, which could also explain their voting pattern in favor of Kerry. JMHO /karen

Carola, I am through arguing this. You either got my point or you did not get it.
My choice was informed, believe me. I have unbiased sources available to me, and I seek them out.
If you ever take the citizenship test it may be important for you to know that the U.S. is NOT a democracy, as you stated it is.
I tried to make people aware that their right to vote carries some responsibility with it. If I stepped on toes, oh well.
I know one thing is certain. I should have stuck to bodily functions and intimate relationship details. I'd have taken alot less grief.
Have a good day.

Thanks for asking but no thanks. My email and PMs are staying blocked. Say it here if you want to say something Hotspur.

Trevor, I just received a very disturbing personal email from the email address [email protected], who was reading a thread on this forum.

I don't know how to block my email. I wrote SNM, but perhaps it's simple.
Can you help?

Thankyou.

I'd love to ask you some questions and talk to you politically but don't want to do it here. If you want to email me yourself, it's [email protected].

Trevor,
You're right! I can't get anything by you! It is fortunate that this democracy has individuals such as you willing to do "six months" of research and speak to totally unbiased sources in the White House. I know that you were leaning towards Kerry and your research helped to show you the error of your ways. Thank you for your open mind. From now on I will not advocate that individuals vote based on hat Dan Rather tells them or which candidate they find is more attractive, etc., etc.

Hi there,

I also just got a very disturbing and threatening email from the same person. It just blows my mind that people can't agree to disagree. We all have our opinions but having to read racial slurrs and getting attacked personally is just beyond me. This is scary, I didn't think this would happen on this forum.

Okay everyone ...........Im feeling uneasy about where THIS thread is going because the passion is rising again!

Thank God its all over everyone because if this carried on WE MIGHT ALL BE OVER. We dont want a second block in a week. Remember it is a privilage to belong to this great forum, not a right, and we dont want this privilage taken away.

I dont want to censor anyone but perhaps ALL further discussion on this subject can be carried out privately between the interested parties own personal e-mail, not here.

:)

Spur, thanks for asking but let's let it go. It's getting crazy in here and people are getting weird emails. I'm also tired of trying to re-explain myself. Let's please just go back to the same old stuff.
T. :)

Ah, don't worry. We've had Chris block and/or pull more than two threads in a day, let alone a week. LOL!

Sorry folks, but I'm with Trevor on this one. Let me tell you why. I'm 47 years old now. I've voted in every single election since I could. Yes, voting is a right, but with every "right" comes responsibilities. Think about it. Free speech is a right, but it carries responsibility. An ethical one at least. The right to bear arms carries responsibility. Voting carries responsibility in that if you cast a vote for frivolous reasons, you're doing yourself and your fellow citizens a disservice.

I don't vote along party lines strictly for the sake of doing so. I never have, and I most likely never will. My first Presidential election I voted for Carter because my mother did. That was the one and ONLY time I made an uninformed vote. I have voted for Dems and Republicans alike for Presidential and more local offices. The way I see it, my right to cast my vote shouldn't be done based on my emotions, any more than the other important decisions in my life should be based on them. If they were, I might make some very regrettable decisions. A vote to me is a DECISION. You are deciding who you want to run your country for the next four years. You are deciding whether or not you can fiscally handle an increase in your property taxes so your schools can have more money. You are deciding who you would want sitting on the bench if you were facing them in a court. These are life-changing decisions, people. These are not quizzes in grade school, where if you get them all wrong ... oh well. There's another one next week. Quite frankly, I don't understand why people don't place MORE importance on such decisions! They directly affect your life, and the lives of your family and friends. They can't be taken lightly.

I didn't read Trevor's original post on the now-locked thread as pompous or as saying "do it my way or don't do it all!" I read it as asking people to be mindful of the WHY they are voting the way they are, just as they should be mindful of the reasons behind any other very important decision in their lives. Maybe the reason some of you were offended by it is because it touched an emotion that make you uncomfortable? Often the posts on here that raise the hairs on the back of my neck are for that very reason, when I stop first and examine the "why". Just a thought ...

Well, that's my say. Whatever. It's only my opinion, after all.

Carol
:)

(who voted for Kerry by the way!! :p )
