I feel awful.....help

I was in an exercise rut since September and recently got my mojo back and restarted my routine. And now I feel AWFUL!!! It's an effort to get up in the morning and I'm doing the fred Flintstone toothpick thing at 6:30 pm.

I am a very high energy person, clean my house everyday, take care of my boys and have an active lifestyle in general. I'm PTA vice president and play and spend a lot of time with my young boys etc

Do you think this is a sign I jumped in too quickly and am just exhausted???
This week I did (besides all the above) Cardio and Weights, Imax 2 and Muscle max.
Did my superwoman cape give me the false sense of I can just jump back in??
If so, I'm throwing that thing out!!!!

I feel the same way when I start again out of nowhere. I come back slowly. However when every I take it up a notch I am usually more sleepy and exhausted in general. Hope this helps.

Ellie...I think the Super Woman cape remains intact. Have you changed your diet lately? Cut anything out? I know when I eliminated sugar, I slept for weeks. But maybe I was in mourning.

I know you'll feel better soon...and fly another day!

Hey Ellie. Me too. I've just started coming back with jogging. I think it is easy to think that since we've Cathe'd with the best of them to think that we can just jump right back in and everything will be fine, . .DOMS and all. I am also like you, . .I'm a type A neat freak homebody and I'm in bed by 8pm. Don't give up do something fun. Take a kick boxing class, hire a trainer. I always, always come back to Cathe but sometimes it takes doing something different to light that fire under ya and get you going. For me it was downloading new music onto my IPOD. Glad to see you posting again. Haven't seen you in a while.

Yes - you just need to get back into it more slowly. Take a day off and just walk. Be proud of yourself for even getting back into it.
I just read a study that showed top college athletes taking two weeks off ENTIRELY (they had to be on bed rest) lost an equivalent to 10 YEARS of physical fitness!?!?! In two weeks! So, cut yourself some slack. But, the study also showed that they had a much easier time regaining their fitness once they started again. So, you can too!

Hang in there, eat good foods, get good rest and you will be back soon enough!
Good luck!

I agree, just be good to yourself and don't focus on pushing limits, just focus on showing up and getting something done and feel accomplished with that. There's plenty of time to ramp things back up! :D

I agree with the other posters. Vary the intensity of your workouts and you will be back into your routine soon enough!

Was recently there too. Work and some physical issues got the best of me for a couple of months last fall. I started over again sporadically the end of Dec. and in Jan started an STS rotation again. I tried starting out where I had left off but was very tired so took it a little more slowly and after a couple of weeks was back to "speed".

Kudos for getting started again ! Don't burn yourself out or get to the "dread" factor. Keep it fun for YOU !

And . . . don't know about you, but when I was a SAHM with my kids (all 3 were in sports year round) I got lots of exercise running around and playing with them. Coached soccer, warmed up the team while we waited for the coach, warmed up the teen boys during and basketball & baseball practices, etc. I didn't "workout" at all and was quite fit. So remember all the "play time" with your kids is exercise too ! ;)

Ellie-

Glad to hear you have your mojo back. That is the first step! When you say you feel awful, do you mean doms or exhausted? If it is doms, I would just keep pushing through your workouts but if it is exhaustion, your body may be telling you something and maybe a slower approach to "getting back into things" is what you need. Maybe you could do one Cathe cardio and one strength training with walks outside if weather permits and gradually increase from there.

You are a SUPERWOMAN, cape or no cape and you have had a rough year so be nice to yourself and it will come back to you.

Stop over at DG.....we miss you. HUGS!!

This may not be the case for you, but I thought I'd mention it. The last time I felt overwhelmed and exhausted my doctor did some blood work and discovered I was severely anemic. My hemoglobin was 7.5. She prescribed iron supplements, and I felt like a new person almost immediately.

Ellie - I swear by some of your recent posts that you and I have a lot in common these days!

If I remember correctly, your husband travels a lot and you are taking care of your boys most of the time by yourself along with being PTA President and house cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, etc.

I would like to get up early in the morning like the good 'ole days but I just can't get out of bed so I get the Fred Flinstone toothpick walk.

It's so overwhelming to get back into the swing of it, isn't it?

Don't have any words of wisdom since I am in the same boat as you. Just wanted to let you know.....you have some company!
