I Can't Stand....

I, too, hate having hair in my face when I'm working out. BLECH! Get it off of me! Get if off of me!!! I have short hair, but I will still take little claw clips and clip my bangs out of my face. I should break down and get a terry sweatband. And maybe I'll get a thong leotard to match. Oh gosh, the mental image there just made me cringe!

My step has to be exactly parallel with the tv. If it moves just a little bit during my workout, I will stop my workout to move it back into the "correct" position. :p

Wow! Maybe I should let you borrow my cat. She laughs plopping her fat but on my stomach when I'm in the middle of a good, deep sleep.

Marla -

You hit my two exercise idiosyncracies right on the head! I am dying laughing as I read your post! I also either bobby pin my bangs back or run my fingers through them ten thousand times during my workout to keep them out of my face. Lately, my hair has gotten so long that even my pony in the back has to be doubled up and held up b/c it bugs my neck and flips into my face.

This thread got me laughing, I guess just knowing that I'm not the only one who has hair problems when I work out. I have bangs and my hair is just too short for a pony tail and I'm forever pushing hair out of my face. I have to use styling gel in my hair during the day to have "my professional look" at work, but in the eveing when I work out, my head sweats and I push my hair back and by the time I'm done I look like I'm trying to pull off Mary's hairdo in the movie Somthing About Mary or whatever the one w/Cameron Diaz is called. Needless to say, I look a mess. :)

Eeeeewww! Don't you get the sticky goo on your hands then? I've done that before. Thank god, I usually don't use styling products.

Marla:)

Marla! I have my hair about as short as it can be, almost and I want a cut and may get one today. When it was lon,g and it was very long, I wore a braid or a pony tail except for rare occasion when it was freed and curled. I not only can't stand having my hair touch my face, I want to brush the hair back off anyone who lets it fall into theirs. My daughter's boyfriend once sported a style which left one eye completely covered and it drove me mad! :)

LOL! this is funny! i can't stand the hair in my face, i stop for sock bunching right when i first feel it so i wont' be messing with it the entire workout, my step has to be strait, and it has to be 66 degrees before i will go into my workout room and workout. also, my laces have to be perfect like Pinky's. i am so weird!

I have to drink a full glass of water and apply Carmex or I have the heebie jeebies through my whole workout. I must have 20 tubes of Carmex stashed around here.

I hate the hair in my face as well. I have layers on the ends so when it's in a ponytail I usually have one piece that will fall out and hang right in my face.

I also like the step just right, and I am so picky that I have to have the right lighting! If it's daytime, I just like plenty of light coming in. If it's the evening, the lighting in my living room has to be just right or I won't enjoy myself. But I'm like that with lighting all the time. I like it just right or I can't be comfortable.

I also can't stand to have any dust or cat hair on my step. I wipe it off before every use. That grosses me out! My house tends to be dusty because of the hard wood floors & all my pets.

I feel so normal now!!

I just had about 10 inches cut off my hair for this very reason and I still resorted to wearing the 70s/80s headband. Every time I put it on, Olivia Newton John starts singing "let's get physical" in my head.

Bandannas are also great - either headband or skullcap style.

And I switch to lighter running shoes to lift weights because my heavy leather rykas roast my feet.

I thought I was abnormally sweaty - but after reading these posts I feel a lot better.

Last night lasik surgery was getting very appealing as I also wear glasses. I decided to give contacts another try before working out because it sucks to bend over for deadlifts or triceps kickbacks and have your glasses start "filling up" -- eew!

great, Bobbie you just reminded me of another quirk! i have blistex on my dvd player and i apply it right before i push play!! i also have a tube in my car, one on my keyboard and one in my makeup drawer!

Marla, Marla, Bo-Barla --

I see you're still not enjoying the bangs ;-) Yep...I can't stand hair in my face either. I almost always wear my hair up in a barrette to keep it out of my face. When I get my hair done, my stylist is always trying to give me a "sweeping" bang. You know, the one that covers part of your eye! Ick...just typing it gives me anxiety!

When I workout, I have to have it in a ponytail and bangs held back by a barrette. If it starts falling out of place due to high jumping or something, I have to stop my workout.

I also have to have lip balm at all times. I hate having dry lips. Ick! Again with the anxiety.

I have to have my laces in a double knot for workout shoes.

I can't stand having lint in the dryer filter. I swear my ex-SO doesn't even know such a thing exists!

Well, thank goodness I'm not the only weird one:p

I also am guilty of the step having to be exactly straight. If it's not, I have to stop to move it.

My hair goes into two ponytails. One doesn't hold it well enough and bits fall out and flap around. I also clip the front back off my face.

When I go for a run, I have to do my stretches before always the same, always in the same order. I also double bow my shoes. And check for my keys 356 times (approximately).

For my entire run, I count in eights in time with my breathing. If I don't count in eights, my pace gets thrown off and my breathing gets thrown off. I don't like running with other people, because they break my concentration and I can't count.

OMG! LOL! I never really thought about it before, but I two have things that have to be a certain way before I'll start my work out. It's almost automatic, I'll roll out of bed, brush my teeth and put on my baseball cap. I was surprised that no one else wore one. However, during some of Cathe's w/o's it flies off of my head! :) Especially during those airborne jacks! Maybe I'll also look into one of those Aunt Jemima dohickies!;-)

Also, can't stand that sweat in my eyes. It DOES burn! So, I make sure I have a little hand towel near by. Yep, I have some kind of lip balm handy, too.

My step has to be a certain way because of space constraints. As you know Cathe doesn't just stay on the step. You have to have a lot of room all around the step too! I have a few bruises from running into the treadmill and that multi station weight thingy.

So, glad I never had sock issues though. i use the Thor for the extra padding in the heal and the toe area.

Now you got me thinking about other non-work out idiosyncrasies that I might have!:)

Marla you made me laugh histerically for the first time today!!!! I know what you mean about the sock wrinkle it's not even an idiosyncrasy it bothers my foot darn it! I don't even care about my stray hairs anymore I used to hit the pause button and brush them back but I don't do that anymore; I use my hands instead. The thing that also bothers me while working out is my bun undoing itself and having a huge ponytail hit me while I'm doing cardio. I have long hair and I put it in a bun because of the ponytail thing.

Edited to add: Oh yeah the step HAS to be straight!
