I can't get over what people will feed their kids!

Please...... demons from hell??? Horrible parents????? perfect parent???

If you read back to my comments you will notice that I never used ANY of those terms.

I personally find it very hard to believe that most people don't realize that an apple is more nutritious than a candy bar. Even with the confusion of trans fats and HFCS we still have a pretty good idea of healthy eating. Not perfect eating or clean eating etc, but the basics if eating fruits, vegetables and drinking water. These might be good ideas to teach children BEFORE they are taking cholesterol lowering meds and Hig blood pressure pills

Just a thought

That being said, the food 30 or 40 years ago was not as bad as the food kids get these days. There was not that much childhood obesity, diabetes, ADD, allergies, ADHD, depression, or you name it as there is these days.

ITA. I just think it's harsh to sit in judgment of parents who do not understand. Most of us were raised on processed food.

There are many people who trust food labels monitored by our government. How many labels claim to be loaded with all these vitamins and minerals?
How many sugar laden cereals??? Aside from Kashi or Oatmeal, the rest is just crap. OMG, look how cofusing it is to buy a freakin loaf of bread!!!
Commercials stating HFCS is all natural made from corn?

Before I had access to the internet, I purchased anything and everything that was labeled "low fat". I had no idea the food was bad for me or my kids. I fed it to my children! How was I suppose to know? I trusted the labels.

Agreed, on the other hand though if people don't talk about it for fear that they could offend the other parents how would those people find out?
And if it makes you feel better, the low fat crap is what started me on binge eating and my yoyo dieting career. Most of us are not born perfect, we just live and learn, and do the best we can.

Maybe, but I think you have to be open to the advice.

True!

I won't tell people that they need to do what I do and I try not to give unsolicited advice (although sometimes it takes a lot of biting my lip ). I won't start a discussion about that subject but I will state my opinion or view if someone asks or starts discussion.

I think we are missing the point here though. This is not necessarily about weight, it is about health! Just because some have grown up on Chef Boyardee (or whatever his name is ;)), twinkies and soda and are in a size 2/4/6, haven't gotten any serious disease yet and are still alive doesn't mean this is the thing to do. We all know that smoking is bad for our health and still we all know someone who smoked like a chimney, ate crap and drank booze until they died of old age in their 90s.

I agree. My point was that I was an incredibly picky child whom despite my daily exposure to healthful foods flat out refused to eat them. I learned to try things later in life, on my terms. Perhaps if I had Joan Crawford for a parent I would have fared differently.

Apparently I AM Mommy Dearest and not only expose my kids but make them eat. Man, hide the wire hangers, I am Joan Crawford

Back when my kids were young, the hot topic was to spank- or not spank:eek::eek:
I won't go there!!! LOL

Funny you mention this. I do NOT remember eating my vegetables when I was a kid! Maybe I did. I know someone would have to beat me to eat a brussel sprout:eek: (not that my mom did). I think I may have eaten a few veggies just so I could run outside to play. Oh, and as kids.....we collected soda bottles to cash in for candy money:D:p We were some trash picking kids!!!

I hoped you bark your orders to them in German :p or..... "YOU CAN'T HAVE ANY PUDDING....IF YOU DON'T EAT YOUR MEAT!!!!!!"

I developed all kinds of ways for making the veggies disappear that did not involve ingesting them. I hated the taste and the texture from day one.

haha!! my brother and i would go flush our food in the toilet!!!

i thought i hated vegetables. turns out my mom was a reallllly bad cook. shed boil veggies in water. yuck! no wonder we didnt like them!
i eat my veggies now!:D thank you, americas test kitchen!:D

For real!

I am a firm believer that the reason we have an epidemic of allergies, ADD and ADHD kids is due to the amount of processed food on the market.

Amen sister!

When my brother was a baby (before my time) he was on red drops with an antibiotic in it. It had red dye number 5 in it. He screamed for three years straight. He slept for only twenty minutes at a stretch. The doctors insisted that this was for his own good. You couldn't touch him. His entire body hurt. Allergic reactions can be a nightmare. There was a book that warned against the use of artificial colors that my grandmother found at the health food store. She took him off the drops. That night was the first that he slept through. Can you imagine, three years without sleep??? And as an infant????

This is one of the reasons I think doctors are quacks. I have had some good doctors (two surgeons) and I've had others that were clueless (urologist told me to relax my interstitial cystitis pain away gave me muscle relaxers that made me hurt so bad I thought I was going to die, then I wished I was dead.) Over all, the most help I have ever found for all of my ailments has been in the natural remedies/health food community. As I eliminate more and more commercial products, the better I feel.

sorry for the rant lol.:D

Again, i am missing the hunor here. Is childhood obesity and long term vessel and heart disease funny????

ellie

Please refer to my signature line. Yes, the childhood obesity epidemic is a horrible thing. But you can not take everything in life SOOO SERIOUSLY. That's not healthy either. Laughter is actually good medicine. Please learn to lighten up for your own health ;)

Seriouslly???????????

You are directing me to your signature line?????? Maybe you should re-read the second half.

Ok, let me be more polite about it. Stop taking things so seriously. We'd all live healthier happier lives if we'd learn to live that way.
