How to get my son to stop cussing

I'm a single mom of 2 boys, one is 9 and the cusser is 11. For some reason he constantly is cussing at my house. He doesnt cuss at his dad's or his Aunt & Uncles, my moms or at school. Its not like I go around cussing, but on occasion when I let one slip he tells me mom dont cuss in front of me. (Yeah right). I've tried alot of things but nothing seems to work, any suggestions? I could sure use them. Thanks in advance Lori BC

Make him pay you for every time he cusses. Display it in a clear (LOCKED) jar so he can see what it is costing him for having a potty mouth...

Just an idea.

I hear Dial soap works pretty well.........although there's a rumor it may cause blindness.....or is that Lifebouy? :p

I thought your 9 year old was the cusser. I misread that. My son was 8 at the time. DH told him to put out the tongue or his gameboy would be taken away. He did it. No questions asked. He LOVES his gameboy!

I find my most affective tools are taking away privledges. I had a homework problem last year with DD. For every missed assignment something she loved - like computer time, play station time or whatever, was removed. She has straight A's this year, so it either worked, or she grew up.

My son does not cuss,(he's 9) but if he did I'd tell him that every time he does, he's going to lose a certain amount out of his allowance.

Maybe, grounding...no tv or I'd take away something he likes.

i got the soap ALOT as a kid!! as you all know, it failed! but it sure does tast awful!!! palmolive is by far the worst!!! use that one if you have to!

jes:p ;-)

The word "suck" is a cuss word in our house and so is "can't". My DD said "Ahole" one time and we had a serious discussion of consequences if ever used again. Never heard her say it anymore.

Jes! I'm dying laughing over here!!! :D :7 :+

Well my step son is a huge cusser.(He is 11) He says the F word in his everyday language .The list goes on .. But when he's here its not allowed .I get the liquid dish soap out and he gets a full squirt . Sometimes it takes once for his visit other times I wonder how he doesnt't end up farting Bubbles !!! And I'm serious !!!!. I feel with cussing its gotta be that second for a punishment !!! ..Oh" Suck" and "duh" are cuss words in my house !!!!

Oh I forgot to say ..You must be persistant with the punishment forsure !!!Never let him slide !!! also let him read this for your back up !!!

Now THERE'S an idea - have him read this post and don't tell him which one you'll do. Let his own imagination run wild... That might cure him.

Thanks girls, I have taken away his playstation, gameboy, gamecube, etc. before and it helped for a short time. But the only way I can do that is to unhook all of it because of his frequency in cussing but it isnt fair to my 9 yr. old who never cusses. And right now I am using that as a reward for when he gets his homework in on time. I suppose I shouldnt be rewarding him for that but thats another story. Maybe I should try the soap, I;ll just attach it to my hip since I will have to use it so often. Lori BC

I used to charge my daughter 50 cents every time she swore. The first time she got mad and swore even more - and it cost her $3.00. But she caught on quick and hasn't cussed since.

Funny, nowadays she catches *me* if I swear and it costs me!
