The Keurig K-cup coffee makers are beloved by a lot of people who only brew a couple of cups of coffee a day. The coffee is measured and sealed in little K-cups that you put in the machine and push a button to brew. They are clean, neat and consistent but the K-cups are a little pricey in the long term. I bought one for a friend and he loves it. I am almost tempted to get one but go through too much coffee for that to be reasonable for me. I also like the option of trying new coffees that I see at the store.
I got a Keurig brewer as a gift a few years ago and I haven't stopped raving since! I've found some online sources for decent pricing on the K-cups and I stock up when they have a sale. EVERY cup is darned near perfect and I can have a variety of flavors/blends each morning. (Today I woke up with a cup of Kona, then moved on to a mellow Sumatran, and finished with a late morning French Vanilla as a treat. ) Another thing I like is that you can vary the amount of water used, so if there's a particular coffee I like but it's too strong, I can use more water and adjust the flavor a little.
We did buy a "My K-Cup" - the little filter thingy that you can use to brew your own coffee. I use it occasionally, but have to play with different coffees to find the right amount of ground beans to use. DH uses it more than I do, but he's not all that picky.
Last year I bought a drip brewer to supplement my habit (on weekends, DH and I like to share a pot or two). We picked one that has a stainless steel insulated carafe with NO HOT PLATE. It's important, because the hot plate can overheat/burn your coffee, so even if the first cup tasted great, your second one might be awful. It's a Zojirushi (sp?) model, and so far, I really like it. DH doesn't like the height (doesn't fit under the counter where he wants to put the pot) but I just moved it to another counter and it's fine.
You can look up a lot of info on coffee brewing - Cooks Illustrated did a good review of pots and methods last year. Their top-rated brewer was out of my price range, but the info was still really helpful.
