How tall is too tall?

I am totally coveting a pair of Steve Madden purple suede sandals with a 4.5" heel. I'm 5'7" and that would put me taller than my husband. I own sandals with 4-4.5" heels and I feel, well, so TALL when I wear them. When I wore them, my brother said, "what with the stilts?" Am I too tall to wear such high heels?

If you are referring to aesthetics, as a 5'2" woman, I don't feel qualified to answer. If you are referring to the health implications of wearing such high heels, you absolutely should not be wearing them.

Sounds like somebody has a case of the Mondays...on FRIDAY!;)

Beavs, if you are referring to my post, I have noticed lately that you seem to be following me around cyberspace making nasty little "witty" remarks at my expense. You did this on one of my very first posts; I remember it clearly. What did I ever do to you to deserve this?

Sorta like you following my posts? :p

Come on now, no one is following anyone! And Beavs is well known for her dry sense of humor and witty remarks. You are taking this way too serious and personal.

That being said, I admire anyone who can wear high heels. I'd be breaking my arms and legs trying to walk around on anything more than 1 inch and give people laughing material for the rest of the day.

Carola, I didn't address my remarks to you and I wasn't soliciting your opinion.

Yowza! Someone got up on the wrong side of the bed.

I wasn't soliciting your opinion in some of my responses either but it still is an OPEN forum on the Cathe board, or did I miss that it changed to the Morningstar forum?

If you tip over in them, they're too tall.

I totally believe in this rule as well. I'm 5'11" and back in the day when I actually did wear high heals, I limited the heel height to that which I felt would not cause me to tip over. I made out pretty well until I reached 6'3". At that height I became a hazard.

High heels are bad for you, but as they say...everything in moderation. (Just keep a pair of flats handy in case you need some relief!).

Have fun with your cool new shoes.

I say wear 'em. I'm not a fan of high heels, even though I'm vertically-challenged, but if you love them and can handle the pain, strut them!!!(As my grandmother used to say, "Vanity knows neither hot nor cold.")

(Oh, and, Beavs, over 5,000 posts and you've resorted to stalking people now??? Tsk. Tsk, Tsk. I must admit, I've always had MY suspicions about you, little girl!!! Well, at least no one can call you a troll! :p)

Hey, it is better to look good than to feel good! :p

I am 5'10 and wear heels all the time. I simply refuse to wear flats because I am so tall. People assume you are wearing flats because you are tall. I hate that! So I always wear heels.

And you should see the men I work with! They are all short. They look scared sometimes when they stand beside me while we are discussing something! Hey, they are the ones with the problem, not me.

I'm late to this party but I gotta say "Get the shoes! Get the shoes!" I have some lovely purple suede flats but they aren't near the steamy sexy shazaam that these shoes are! I'd wear 'em and say screw the health implications (I mean, not all the time but once in a while).

It's the man's hangup if he worries about being shorterl

This is from a man's point of view, who is not all that tall.

Way back when in grad school, I had a very close friendship with a young woman who was tall. (She had a tall father who was well known in Ottawa political circles). She is now a successful businesswoman on Wall Street.

When I knew her in grad school, we were always together. And she was about 4"-5" taller than me. During the enormous study and work load we had to go through, she managed to drag me into the university weight room to start lifting weights (we stayed in the universal weight room, since it was far less competitive than the movable weight room!). This was the first time I ever lifted weights and learned a lot. We kept up a positive sense of humor when tackling the weights.

This young woman wore flats, but she told me she did it out of health reasons, not because she was shy of her height. As far as I remember she was never teased by other classmates. She had competed in basketball at the undergraduate level -- and I think that background helped her realize the advantages of being tall. At grad school we played pick-up basketball. She was the only woman who ever played with the profs and grad students. I am short and wiry, but despite that I had a good basketball background. We each had nicknames -- and looking back on it the fitness activity that we did was some of the most pleasant times I had in grad school.

It is the man's hang up if they worry about women being taller than them. As my tall friend ofen mentioned to me, we have more imprtant problems to worrry about (passing through school, our bank accounts, having a job, making friendships), than worrying about how tall people are.
