How often should I replace my shoes?

Hello everyone. I'm wondering how often you generally wear your workout shoes before replacing them. It's harder for me to tell than with my running shoes, since the tread doesn't wear out quickly working out on carpet. Thanks in advance for any input! Have a great weekend.

I replace every 4-6 months. The tread will start to wear under the balls of me feet - even on carpet - or around the edges Also look at the side of your shoes. If the part where the sole wraps up around to the top starts to look squished or creased, you've lost a lot of cushion. Or if you can see major crease lines in the thick back part of the heel. I can also just tell by the way my feet/legs feels during or after a higher impact workout. If they are screaming, its time for new shoes!!!!

My feet, legs, and hips tell me when I need new sneakers. Mine don't wearout but the inner cushion does. If I have a leg problem I need new sneakers.

Same here. I replace every 4-6 months, depending on how often I wear them (every day = more often, just a few times a week = less often). And I 'feel' it when I need to buy new ones, my workouts are more jarring than they would normally be.

I've read that they should be replaced every 3-5 months. (But if while you are working out, you start to wonder whether you should replace them, it might be time.)

Following recommendations to not wear the same shoes ever day, I always buy at least two pairs, and alternate wearing them, so the cushioning materials has a chance to recover between wearings, and they get to air out (it's good to do this with both exercise shoes and regular shoes). Because of this, I replace mine every 6-10 months instead, since they theoretically last twice as long (but are worn the same amount of time).

Thanks for the input, everyone. I just ordered a new pair, and if I like them (I've worn Rykas before, but not the N-gage Instructor, so we'll see), I'm going to order a second pair as Kathryn suggests. Thanks again!
