How much should I weigh?

Hi Cathe, I love your program, you have some killer workouts. I will never be as toned as you but I do want to be fit and I am working
specific muscle groups to tone.

My big concern, for my peace of mind is my weight. I have always worked out, my bone structure is medium, my bra size is 36 "D"
( which does add weight), I am 5'3" in height, and I currently weigh between 124 and 126 depending on water.

I was at a steady 118 for 2 years and then my weight went up a little,

I do work out 3 times a week, first cardio, at least 30 min.s and then weights.

What would you say is a good "ballpark" weight for someone like me??
Please get back to me as this is really important to me and I do value your input.

thanks JenH

How old are you? Many height/weight charts are by age.

Out of Weight Watchers which is based on BMI

For 5-3

Minimum 113

up to age 25 maximum of 130
between 25 and 45 maximum of 135
over 45 maximum of 141.

Hi Dorothy, thanks for responding. I will be 47 in March. I'm not sure that chart takes into consideration level of ones activeness and workout schedule....I eat low carbs and high protein. Again, there is bone frame and breast size to take into consideration, I don't believe those charts take all that into consideration.

I weighed 118 for quite awhile and now I'm at a weight I am not happy with and I can't seem to shed the extra.

Jen -
This is a hard question to answer. I'm not a health expert, but for comparsion, I weigh 127. I am 5'4" and am VERY small up top. I'm too embarrassed to give actual measurements! I am also of medium build. I work out pretty hard and have muscle, but am not a body builder.

The point is, as you'll find in a lot of other places on this forum, that weight isn't really that important if you're fit. The amount of a person's muscle really throws the BMI scale off. If you look good in the mirror and are physically fit, I wouldn't worry too much about it. A lot of people here, including me, go by the way our clothes fit instead of the scale.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the response, I do agree with what you are saying and I do feel the same way. I do use the scale to monitor and keep a handle
on any increase. My jeans have been fitting tighter lately since I've noticed the gain.

I have noticed (my problem area) that the cellulite is more prevelant on my rear.....would like to do something about that area which is my worst, unsightly area....would like to shrink it and get rid of the dimpling.

Jen - do you think your weight gain is due to more muscle mass? Have you been working out more? Some people have said they went up a size when they do more weight training.

Also, I have a nice "padding" on my rear too, along with some small saddlebags on my thighs that just won't leave. It's not too bad - something I suppose I can live with. But I'd like for it to be gone too!

I've increased the amount of time I work out over the past year, and it's helped some. But a person can only work out so much, since other life (like a job) kind of gets in the way! ;) It's great to push yourself - I think most of us do here. But don't make yourself miserable. Enjoy!!!!

Thanks Shannon, I guess the fact that my jeans are a little tighter and also the fact I don't feel comfortable in sexy undies around my husband (because he sees the dimples on my rump)although he says it doesn't matter, it bothers me. Especially after all the hard work, weights and cardio.... I think we all agree we should see success.

Cellulite is such a problem, sometimes it just never seems to go away. I would like to see it get smaller at least!

It doesn't but it is ballpark. It is hard to judge if a person should weigh more or less by a forum, so I gave you the BMI numbers. If you want to know if you are overfat, consider having a bodyfat assesment.

Jen:
I had to post cause when I read your description of yourself you could have been describing me!
I am 48 and 5'4", med frame and 34D which as you say accounts for a little 'extra" weight.
I was about 117 until two years ago and some weight started creeping on. I had a surgery, a slipped disc in my back and then a motorcycle accident that injured my shoulder in December. I was up to 126 from not working out and it was bothering me too. My clothes were tight (but at least I was still in them!).
I am just getting back to exercising. I still can't lift heavy weights. So I started doing what I could do. The basic step, cardio and light weights (circuit), my nordic trac and treadmill. I also started eating "clean" even though I was not eating bad before, and following some tips I found on this forum such as "Cycling" or "zigzaging" calories. I have now lost about 6 pounds since late December. I think my plateau just needed a serious shakeup. I would vary your eathing patterns and your workouts so your body doesn't get too comfortable. Hope this helps.
I can't wait till I can do Muscle Max....it's waiting in the wings for me!!

Jen - there are several threads on cellulite here - do a search and you'll come up with tons of info. From what I recall: 1) it's REALLY hard to get rid of, as we all know. 2)the recommendations all seem to say to drink plenty of water and eat clean, and to do plenty of cario workouts, since they are the real fat burners. The rest, of course, is just going to depend on your personal makeup. It'll take some experimenting, but if you keep working at it, I'll bet you'll see results.

I will search for the cellulite info, if you come across some please send it to me. thanks again for everyones help.

Hi, thanks for the input, I can understand your weight gain and also that you have lost since you got back into exercising. I have been working out and still have not lost those extra 7 - 8 lbs that I put on. Could you tell me where to find more info on the "eating clean", "cycling and zigzaging" calories? I think you are right about a jumpstart.

How did you do your "serious shakeup" could you give me more detail?

Jen:
go to www.freedieting.com to the "calculators" section. It will figure out the calories you need per day and if you click on the section that says "zigzag" or "cycling" your calories (something like that) it will give you a sample breakdown of what to eat per day. In other words if you need to eat 1400 calories a day to lose weight, you may eat 1200 some days, 1350 another day, and maybe as high as 1700 one day. It all will average out to teh 1400 perday, but after some time at the same amount of calories, especially if you go too low, your body adjusts and holds on to the fat for dear life.
There is also alot of info on clean eating at www.bodybuilding.com.
